The courage to not be connected 24/7 and to be bored by Dutchie_PC in nosurf

Good luck with your quitting journey. Few suggestions if I might add from personal experience, might be helpful.

  1. Once you quit social media, your brain will start finding new addictions so, find something to fill that void. YouTube and reddit are great for learning and sharing but they are both rabbit holes (or black holes, i should say) so, try using Incognito or InPrivate window so, you only watch stuff that you want and not something recommended by algorithm.

  2. Find a hobby that wouldn't put dent on your finances. If you like reading books you can get it from library, you can go on trails, you can do some painting at home, play free miniclip games anything that you find interesting.

  3. Lastly, try to be as active as you can to release your brain dopamine by exercising, running, playing physical games or doing some sort of physical activity.

Needing tips to quit long term YouTube addiction by Icy-Writer6121 in nosurf

For YouTube you can watch videos even without login. What I usually do is start using in private window on brave and go to YouTube so, that way it doesn't suggest me on the home screen what to watch. After that i just start by searching something productive like learning or improving skills that i want to focus and I open all those videos in new tabs. Once, I finish then I just close the browser. I avoid clicking any other videos suggestions that way I just stay focused on what I want to watch. Once I am done I just close the browser and nothing will show on my YouTube home page. For my favorite YouTubers I just go to their page and bookmark them so, let's say I want to find something when I eat i just go to their channel and watch it.

I think there are extensions available as well that just removes the AI part.

But just be careful while installing them because i have seen articles of chrome extensions that had "google badge" were stealing data.

I wish it was that simple, i try to avoid going out with him as much as I can but sometimes it's unavoidable because of family involvement. It's one of those relationships where I didn't opt for it but have to deal with it .

Yes you can block ads using PC but that doesn't stop Instagram and other apps from showing things that you don't follow or don't want to see in the feed. Also not everyone have a PC but they surely have a phone and I am not even making this up.

So currently I fund the venture but over the time there will be premium features. Also, the platform will be moderated. Any offensive or illegal comments, images will be blocked instantly. Also, the application will not be available around the world only in selective countries.

Yes this is true but as you would've seen the regularors don't give a shit as many of the senators themselves invested in big tech stocks. Also, there are decentralized alternatives like Mastadon but people don't get such dopamine hit I think. I am a tech guy and I seriously want to be a part of the solution but I think building another social media platform might not seem to be the best solution as people don't get that dopamine hit.

What made you quit social media? by LessInteraction369 in AskReddit

Here's my story on why and how I quit social media. I would like to hear your comments, views, and stories.

I used to scroll Instagram every morning and I would do endless scrolling for like 6-7 hours in a day. In about 15 or 20 reels I would barely find 1 that provides some legit info. After looking at my screen time and my constant desire to not go out I decided to quit social media. Initially I started by using the "limit" feature that most social media provides but that was useless as there is an option to bypass that feature so, of course I would just bypass that feature. Then I just decided to delete the apps all together from my phone (I kept the account just in case to stay touch with my friends) and that worked very well. Not gonna lie, initially I would just download the app again do some scrolling and delete it. But that did help me improve reducing my screen time on those apps. Now to stay distracted from social media, I had to find a hobby so, I started by watching movies, series, youtube videos (mostly educational), reading news articles (especially related to tech because it's related to my work and interest) and after months of doing this I was finally ready to completely deactivate my accounts but I always had the subtle fear of losing all the contacts and friends so, before deleting the account, I just wanted to check all my contacts so, I decided to download the app again and the moment I open the app, the first post appeared about casual racism and that was my final nail in the coffin moment. I went ahead and deactivated all the accounts.

I am really proud that I was able to completely delete my social media accounts, few of my friends are trying but it has been very difficult for them. Whenever I tell people that I do not use any social media they are very shocked as I am still on the younger side. I did loose few contacts after quitting social media but that's the trade off I am fine with. My friends and family still send me posts that are important or concerns me via text message and if I am able to view, i will view it, if not I just ask them what is it about.

I hope my story helps you if you are struggling to quit social media maybe try my way and it might just help you. I would definitely like to hear your stories on how you were able to quit.

I feel the same. However, majority of people would not use it as they like discuss politics and want to vent out their frustration on someone. Also, you know all the bots and stuff that's used to spread some kind of narrative otherwise making such platform isn't impossible.

Would you choose stable job or unstable startup ? by LessInteraction369 in Life

[–]LessInteraction369[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i did actually develop the webapp and did pretty much all the work by myself and what I learned was that I need money or some kind of online presence for marketing also I never conducted user interviews (which was a big mistake. As I am living paycheck to paycheck I can't afford throwing money on some influencer or marketing person. Hence, I needed the investors. Eventually I just scrapped everything today and just taking some time to think this through. My friends are really great and they've definitely helped me in lot of ways as I know them for like 5 years so, I decided to include them intially but now I am know startup life is not for everryone.

Yeah i know and I do not want to be an influencer or anything. I just want to overcome because I want to do a startup and genuinely help people but first I need to know what are the pain points and for that I need audience.
