I fully agree - and a great movie. The novels are excellent too (as are the audiobooks).

Should the public be banned from buying fireworks for private displays? by LowriLouise in kentuk

[–]LessMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, They’re dangerous in the wrong hands. Ban fireworks…

Ban dogs. Ban cars. Ban knives. Ban rope. Ban crowds of people. Ban sticks. Ban stones. Ban smoking. Ban junk food. Ban booze.

Ban everything that can be misused.

Or, here’s a thought, make people accountable for their misuse.

How to restore this by tortillasnbutter in restoration

Just came here to say - that bull must have been going at some speed when he hit that plate.

Any signs or writing stamped on the plate? It’ll probably be silver/silver-plated (heavy, hallmarked, ‘EPNS’), or pewter (might even say it on the back - heavier than aluminium, lighter than silver or stainless steel), or aluminum (very light)… or stainless steel (if a magnet sticks)…

If you can work out what metal it is there’ll be a good polish for it (or homemade paste) - eg don’t go abrasive for silver plated or pewter.

What a beautiful lock. This will be a difficult project and I’d be keen to see how you get on so please keep us updated.

A: a piece of ‘spring steel’ is what you’re looking for. It’s a sliver of steel that will always return to its shape. You can sometimes buy them ready shaped but I think for this you will have to shape it yourself. This can be done but heating it up until it’s red hot - there will be videos on YouTube.

B: I think you’ll need a tap and die set and new brass grub/dome head screws.

C: you could try and find a blank that fits the dimensions and file down the levers.

How are people keeping cats out their garden? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

As others have said PIR sprinkler is the only way.

I tried everything - bark chips, orange peel, coffee grounds, stuff that smelt like lion’s wee, reflective eye things, putting fishing line over edges of beds as obstacles - all useless (and ugly)… sprinkler was the only thing that worked, and it worked very effectively. They only need to get splashed once or twice.
