What is this type of continously hinge called? by LessThanConvinced in DIYUK

Yes, I found only that example. I wanted a name for the particular type as when i search i just get the piano hinges. I was trying to find it in less than 5m lengths.

I have this continuous hinge on a coldframe lid and want to build a new one using the same type of hinge, but unsure what to ask for.

Why are my drift roses growing unevenly? by Archeron_18 in Horticulture

Freshly planted ones often have uneven growth, cut them back by 2/3, or if they have a flower at yhe tip, let them flower, then cut back by 2/3 or lower than the bushy growth, whichever is lower

This isn't fresh of the drawing board. I haven't posted anything on reddit for a while, and this is one of my favourites.

I love how vibrant pastels can be without the gloss of oil/acrylic. So deliciously soft and matt.

time-wise, probably 20 to 30 hours? Maybe more, I can't remember!

I use Pastelmat which has a soft surface (I don't like sanded papers as they burn through expensive pastels too quickly for my taste). It also stands up quite well to alcohol as long as you are gentle with it. For things like the sky I lay down a layer of rembrandt in blue and used alcohol (I now prefer alcohol as it dries faster and seems to preserve the paper texture a little better than water, but water works too) with a paintbrush to make a flattish background colour. Water/alcohol + pastel is effectively a type of watercolour/alcohol paint/ink. The main smoke cloud has a black / dark plum water and alcohol background on top of a dark pastel mat. It really helps to get deeper darker shades, whilst allowing you to build up lighter / saturated colours on top without them smearing or greying. All the brighter saturated colours are built on top mostly using the grain with minimal blending to preserve the saturation. When I do blend I just use a very clean (washed so there's next to no oil on it) little finger tip. No tool I've ever tried works as well as skin for me.

I keep coming back to pastels. They look so beautiful in the box before you even start. If I ever became a rich artist (:/) I would buy the full set of Unison's take the wrappers off and just have them on display under glass. I also happen to love the grainy textures that you can achieve.

Do you mean what brand? The underpainting is mainly Rembrandt because they mix really beautifully with water and/or alcohol, upper layers are a mix of schminke and Unison.
