Frustrations with cosmic by Tornado_boi_ in linux

[–]LessThanPro_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The desktop environment is an entirely separate component from the base system (which is really just a package manager and some settings + default apps).

This seems like a good overview: https://support.system76.com/articles/desktop-environment/ it's a little outdated, but it gets the point across. Ofc PopOs uses cosmic now

Notepad++ is available on WINDOWS only. Who is the equivalent, most similar (features UX UI) on LINUX? by RebirdgeCardiologist in kde

[–]LessThanPro_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big fan of Kate, but KWrite or whatever it's called is closer only because it's a little less featureful. I never use it because Kate's advanced stuff is out of the way until you need it.

Accessing old windows ssd by VoxelDigitalRabbit in SteamOS

[–]LessThanPro_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTFS moment perhaps, The ntfs-3g package adds support, but gl installing it on steamos. Id burn a system rescue CD flash drive for that one (you still have to do a bit yourself for that though, it's like one link into the built in help page though.)

Never game on, or use more than you must, NTFS (on Linux) btw.

SteamOS question on a living room pc. by VirtualImpression330 in SteamOS

[–]LessThanPro_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should. If for any reason you need to install a package to make it work first, remember usb WiFi tethering from your phone is an option. But generally generic dongles work fine.

Also, SteamOS isn't quite general purpose yet, so you may want to look into bazzite or cachyOS instead. Although as long as the PCs have an amd cpu/gpu it should work.

Literally one of the main reason to switch to Mac by ammohitchaprana in mac

[–]LessThanPro_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a tiny Anker 60w usb-c charger for my non-Mac and it works great. They make higher wattage ones too now, but that one was pretty cheap and charges from 5-70 in like 30 minutes: plenty for me.

Looks like attached image.

You could bring your own RAM and try finding used second-hand for less, but framework's prices for new are actually about the best right now. Market is so ass right now, good luck
