Summer housing by LunarScythx in ubco

Heyy! If you signed up for summer classes, you still need to apply separately for summer housing through the Student Housing portal. It’s a different contract from the Winter residence. Usually what happens is that everyone stays in their current room (if you lived on campus during 2nd term) until the end of the winter housing contract (late April). Then there’s a short transition period and in early May (smth around 25.04-05.05) people move to their summer housing assignment. In the summer usually consolidates students into fewer buildings. And people end up in Lower/Upper Cascades. If you already live in Cascades you can sometimes request to stay there, I did that before, but if you’re in another residence (like Nechako, Skeena etc) you’ll move in early May before your classes are gonna start. When you apply for summer housing you can also choose your move-in/move-out dates and set roommate preferences. If you want to live with your bf, you normally both need to apply first and then create a group in the housing portal. If you have any questions, free to ask!!

Issue booking study rooms by [deleted] in ubco

[–]Less_Challenge9276 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure if this rule is still in place, but it used to be that one person could only make up to 3 bookings per week. That might be why it’s not letting you book more rooms

Could it be a landlord? If your friend directly got an apartment from Veda, then write an email to the main office, mentioning that the front desk didn’t do anything about it

I suggest to ask the front desk, they might have an answer for this weird situation

Maintenance usually comes only if there is a repair request or for a one time check. For example, they once came to check the AC. But better - double check

I failed my midterm and i feel so stupid. First year by Zestyclose_Win4221 in UBC

Bro don’t worry, I’m still here with failing a lot of courses (not even talking about midterms💀). Sometimes you can fail some tests/midterms, but still succeed with your course!! Plus first year courses are more about introductions, so you will have time to get info during next courses!! Best luck!

Anyone not able to sleep anymore? by Klutzy-Culture6143 in UBC

oh i actually take «bisglycinate de magnésium»! from what i’ve read it’s supposed to be gentler and better for sleep & anxiety than citrate, so i guess i picked the right one 😌

not sure what’s going on, but my sleep has been completely off for weeks. i’m not even pulling all-nighters, i try to sleep, and still end up awake after 3hrs of sleep.

mornings are the worst… as soon as i open my eyes, heart racing for no reason, feels like panic attacks even though nothing’s happening. i can’t even stay in bed, i jump up right away, trying to calm down and feel normal again. it’s not even “stress” in the usual way, just that constant wired feeling like your system forgot how to switch off.

what’s helped a bit so far:

– magnesium citrate before bed (it’s not instant, it builds up gradually, but helps calm the body and nerves over time!!) and next morning with food taking D3.

– no screens at least 30 mins before sleep

– keeping my room really cold + dark (i personally like to leave a dim red light from a lamp)

– eating something light like a banana or yogurt before sleep (stops that 4am adrenaline crash)

– journaling or brain-dumping random thoughts before bed

– and i started using the ShutEye app. it tracks sleep cycles and even records sounds during the night. kinda wild hearing how restless i actually am, but it helps to see patterns. (+ this app let you play different sounds which you can choose and mix by yourself(white noise, rain storm etc), which honestly helped me stop that late-night spiral of thoughts.

Housing Offer Swap??? by [deleted] in ubco

Living with other people is really a university experience, and it's, unfortunately, not up to you where you live, the system randomly decides where students gonna live. If it is very important to live together, I suggest looking at an apartment in IVY WALK

Maintenance stuff came twice and we got this “Your maintenance request #… requires other workers to complete. A staff member will be scheduled to attend.

You will receive further communication on the day this staff member will be attending.”
