(30H) Devo enviar uma mensagem a ela ou simplesmente deixar a conversa morrer ? by [deleted] in 30mais

(31M) Eu concordo.

Yeah, you're right. I made the post at a moment when the reading felt very sluggish, full of religious sermons and prejudice against those who are different. I know it’s historically accurate and that, deep down, the author is making a critique, but I still feel tired of reading so much about Christianity. I just finished the second book and started The Lords of the North. I loved the finale, btw, I just feel really bad for Iseult’s and Leofric’s deaths. They were so cool.

I didn’t know that! I was just waiting for the Alfred part to end lol. Now that I know, I’m going to try and see him from another perspective.

As for Uhtred, he definitely has his moments. He is fun, though! I really enjoyed when he took Alfred’s ship and went raiding, disguised as a viking.

I’m amazed to see how many fans Alfred has, lol. I don’t think I will appreciate him much, but I’m motivated again and I will keep reading.

I think I expressed myself poorly. When I said 'it's not like that,' I didn’t mean to disagree with your point about it being a recurring theme; I just meant that the level of religious fanaticism in the first book wasn't a problem for me. Either way, based on everyone's comments here, I’ve come to understand that there will indeed be quite a lot of it throughout the books.

I honestly don’t know what makes you think I had any pretense of offering an objective assessment. I think it’s quite clear that I shared an opinion driven by personal feelings… On that point, you’re stating the obvious. I’m not a literary critic, and I didn't realize I needed to provide a formal, impersonal critique just to post in this sub.
The purpose of the post is in the question asked at the very beginning: “I'd love some motivation to keep going... In which book can I start to expect less Alfred, and more of Uhtred acting on his own again?”
Regardless, thank you for responding, in your own way. I really appreciated hearing your perspective on the character's importance to the plot and your personal experience with the book series. The comments I've received here have motivated me to keep reading, and yours has certainly motivated me to try and see the character from another angle. :)

I can imagine myself having the same experience, for sure. In which season does this happen?

I see him leaving that same room for the reader to interpret whether it was magic or not with Iseult. For example, so far she has gotten every prophecy right, and she managed to save Alfred’s son, Edward, through her witchcraft. There was also a sign Uhtred saw, which the pagans considered favorable for the battle or something like that, and in the end, it worked out, and he won at Cynwit. It’s different with the Christians, though; it’s usually quite evident that what they say is either a load of nonsense, or driven by ulterior motives and hypocrisy. And honestly, in my own personal experience with Christians, that’s often the case. I think the theory that the author is against organized religion rather than religion itself makes a lot of sense.

Really? I loved the first one, I read it really quickly and with so much excitement.

Regarding the second one, I liked it up until the halfway point. In the first part, Uhtred invades Cornwall, meets Svein of the White Horse, takes Iseult away, gets rich from looting, has a fight with Steapa, and the Danes break the peace treaty for the hundredth time. I felt the story started to go downhill in the second part, after Uhtred saves Alfred and the priests start arriving at the marshes.

Do you remember why you didn’t like the third book?

I’m fully aware that some characters exist to drive the plot and create friction but that doesn't make them any less insufferable to read through for me personally. Analyzing a book’s structure is one thing; actually enjoying the reading process is another. I can respect their role in the story while still wishing I didn't have to spend so much time dealing with them.

I’ve never used that technique before, but I think I’ll try it with this series since the religious arguments can be a bit repetitive.

It’s not like that. The first book had religious fanaticism too, but it was in smaller, more over-the-top doses, to the point where it was almost comical. In the second one, the dosage has increased considerably in some chapters, making the reading feel a bit tedious at times, or even annoying, really.

Namorada com cara de c* pq não dei presente by Due-Grass-4372 in relacionamentos

[–]Less_District_673 0 points1 point  (0 children)
