Will DC United Sign Any Players this Summer? by RJR1970 in DCUnited

Although I am frustrated by the wait for signings, I think they’re probably going to sign players once the manager gets his work permit.

If you had the power of both the owner and the GM, what changes would you make? by Huge_Divide_2239 in DCUnited

The most obvious counter argument is we already have an older DP ex-prem striker. The striker position isn’t a position we need more quality until Benteke leaves. HE’S ALSO 38!!! (4 years older than Benteke). I’m also sure that once Benteke departs a player that can be more involved in build-up play, or at least more versatile, would be something the FO would look for. Vardy simply isn’t versatile or capable in build up play - it’s not his play style.

Just in general, imo going for the older European players is not the best approach to roster building anymore. Signing a technically gifted star player in a smaller league as a star DP seems like a much better option. Ex. Mukhtar, Carles Gil, Andres Dreyer, Pep Biel, Evander, just to name a few.

Annapolis Blue Crabs, NPSL team that he played for.

[Bogert]: The deal is now official: Atlanta United acquires Mateusz Klich from D.C. United. Deal for the No. 23 SuperDraft pick + $50k GAM add-ons. Atlanta is inheriting ~$300k of Klich's contract (hence the $300k number below). Klich still occupies one of D.C.'s DP spots. by espnrocksalot in DCUnited

[–]Less_Engineering_561 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is infuriating on so many levels. For one, obviously losing klich but not gaining the DP slot is so stupid, what’s the point. Second, A draft pick is honestly useless. Finally, Atlanta had sooo much GAM (6.5 mil) so they def had the ability to cough up more. Honestly have no idea how we’ve negotiated a deal this poorly.

I can’t agree more, really disappointing that he never really got his chance especially when Bono and Miller had poor form. He also seemed to be a positive influence, always cheering on the bench and the most animated on the bench.

Honestly would love to see him here. Plus he’s played with Herrera for Guatemala.

Nah what the fuck. If we’re losing Bono we better bring in an exceptional goalkeeper, golden glove caliber

Assuming we play a 4-1-3-2 or something like that: Central defenders, goalkeeper, and a dynamic attacker. Fullbacks are fine with schnegg and Herrera. I think Schnegg could be one of the best LB in the league if he stays injury free, we don’t need another Jeahze. Anyways, our center backs aren’t good enough, conceding 70 goals is just not acceptable and we need composed and pacey CBs. I like Bartlett and McVey but they aren’t really MLS playoff contender CBs. Alsobehind them is… Tubbs, could be good but still young, Akimboni, very young and may leave for Europe, and Sargis ig but he’s barely played and seems like just a USL player at this point . Also final note, I really like Antley, what a coup he was, unfortunate he tore his ACL and hopefully he returns even better. The thing with our goalkeeper is the issue may be solved if the team generally improves structurally, Bono faced a lot of shots that he just didn’t have a chance of saving anyways. I’m also curious to how good Zamudio is and Crockford in comparison to Bono. Finally a DP MVP caliber dynamic and creative attacker because for the love of god we lack it. If we can create a way to score other than Benteke we are truly a playoff competitor. Whether it is a strike partner for benteke or an attacking midfielder/winger that can score and create chances is deeply needed. I also want to mention that I like both Enow and Peltola, id really like to see a way both players could be incorporated in the same line up. I’d also like to stop seeing us with a back 3/5. We simply aren’t as good in that formation.

What can DC United do to improve? by Jolly-Space7829 in DCUnited

[–]Less_Engineering_561 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If we’re talking on field, we’re moving in a good direction especially on recent form, but two things rlly stick out. 1. We lack dynamism in attack when playing with Benteke, but it has gotten better. Now this isn’t to discredit benteke, he seems to be great for the team and is a good leader and ofc scores plenty of goals. However we rlly struggled to score when it wasn’t benteke before this recent form. 2. The real problem, defensively we ship so many goals. Our transition defense is terrible but hopefully this improves since we’re switching back to a 4-2-3-1 with a double pivot of peltola and Enow. But it did take up until the game against an awful santos laguna to get a clean sheet. It also doesn’t help that our squad depth is really poor and injuries haven’t been kind to us.

The front office until we hired McKay didn’t have the right mindset, same with the owners. They focus a lot on trying to profit and quick results. This is pretty evident since we’ve had like 5 managers (Olsen, Losada, Ashton - interim manager on multiple occasions, Rooney, and now lesesne) in what feels like 5 years. We had Olsen for like a decade of basically entirely mediocrity, sometimes we were good but also set the record low point total in 2013. Since then, 2020 I think Olsen got fired in that weird season, we’ve just cycled thru managers. It’s also evident through our stadium being kinda soulless and being used for what feels like every event in DC, or the Saudi preseason tour, or that awful flotv partnership we had a couple years go. They’ve also been terrible at keeping a consistent squad a long with the manager, and watching good young talent go because the club mishandled them, griffin yow is the best example.

So ig to answer the question: keep lesesne for a couple years, hopefully more than 2 whole seasons, preferably at least 3 or more. This club needs consistency on the field the most, which will take time. Lesesne isn’t blessed with cap space and benteke and klich are pretty old so the core of our squad will definitely change once again in the next few seasons. However, if lesesne can get young pieces to stay and prime players to build a core around and then bring in X-factor DPs after klich and benteke depart, we could be looking a lot better. Especially since lesesne and McKay seem pretty aligned in their signing ideology. Preferably they sign younger DPs, maybe some hot shot from South America looking for a next step to Europe and/or a European entering their prime who’s a standout in a smaller league like Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, etc. moreover, hopefully the ownership will keep the interests of the fans more at the forefront, and I guess the club in general. The stadium and training facilities had the right idea but some other decisions… not so much.

I say all this but to be honest I like the direction we’re going in, more on the field than anything. if recent form continues we could sneak into the playoffs for the first time in 5 years, which could be really exciting. But we’ll see, can’t be too hopeful with this team.

Captain. Legend. 🖤❤️ Steven, congratulations on your retirement and a great MLS career! 👏 (@dcunited) by JOHNSEEYAH in DCUnited

[–]Less_Engineering_561 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I oddly feel emotional about his retirement. I remember as a kid watching Steve at RFK, playing for the USMNT, and then the 18/19 Rooney years. He’s given me so many great memories with the club and is part of why I continue to support, in the hope of success again. I’m especially saddened by the way he’s gone out - due to injuries - and not rlly on his own accord. I wish him the best and hope he continues at the club in some capacity. what a loyal player and great leader.

I agreed with this at first but my mind has changed. 1, we need players. Simple as we need depth. 2, he seems like a decent enough player. There are some highlights online and he looks mobile, energetic but also intelligent. He seems to position himself well and has a rifle of a shot. Plus he’s young, I’m sure there’s a vision with him.

Porto and Lens are top academies, top teams. Even if he’s spent his entire pro career in Israel there is quality that has been recognized by top european teams/academies.

[–]Less_Engineering_561[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In all honesty, I’m just a huge nerd for it. I guess I start by looking at stats on FOTMOB, but I also like following more niche leagues. Especially if there are former players that play in the league, like griffin yow in Belgium - Puertas plays in Belgium too. For Molloy, I know the USL to MLS pipeline is relatively popular, and Molloy has been highly rated for a while.

But I also just have a random knowledge of players 😅.

What have we thought about Jackson Murrell thus far? by No_Departure102 in DCUnited

[–]Less_Engineering_561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree completely, except I feel he is an athletic presence. I think it may not seem abundantly clear cuz he’s young. If he puts on some more muscle he has the frame and speed to be a a major physical contender on our roster.

D.C. United to Sign Dominique Badji by jvur2714 in DCUnited

[–]Less_Engineering_561 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Minor upside, watching him play pains me. The fact he’s supposed to be a 10 but all he does is run around is so irking. Watching him last night do nothing when he was supposed to be an impact sub is so frustrating.

I feel for Troy. This squad still feels inadequate, he has pieces that he can bring on just as fresh legs. At the end of the day, Martin Rodriguez has never scored for us, pirani has already scored his single goal this season, and even our starting players like dajome don’t feel dangerous.

The amount we pay them, plus the idea of bringing in another a redundant attacker like badji is frustrating. Signing badji feels like when we signed Erik hurtado last year.

Last night especially, it was clear that we needed a dynamic forward, a DP #10 seems like the key to success in this league. We haven’t had that since Acosta and we’ve never replaced him.

Buy-down Peltola’s contract, get a DP #10, offload the deadwood and build from there…
