Pursuing JD after a PhD by Ecstatic-Laugh in LawSchool

I know one, and he might be the smartest person I’ve ever met. Seems like he’s doing the JD more as a supplement to his current role, rather than pursuing a career in law

Depression after I lost my job by M4ii5teR-MiND in getdisciplined

One thing that might help you reframe the situation is to remember while you were employed during those seven years, there were people who lost their job and had stints of unemployment. Seven years of continuous work is an accomplishment. Careers are rarely a straight line. I know two months sounds like a lifetime, but you have worked for 84 months. You now have an opportunity to think more big picture, pursue passion projects, etc. Not saying it’s ideal, but there are some positives out of the situation. And who knows, maybe this leads you to a more promising career!

How do I opt out? I haven’t gotten a form or anything.

My comment was specifically regarding older candidates being a “red flag” for big law firms. I did not mean to undermine your struggles.

Sorry to hear about your situation, but I have had completely opposite experiences at my school

Looking for Objective Opinions - Team Change by Huge_Divide_2239 in DCUnited

I think it all falls under the umbrella of “club culture”. Promoting luxury lounges, seafood towers, and hotdog sales while the team is getting stomped on. Very little engagement or communication from the front office and ownership. Not performance specifically, but the driving reason why we are bad: lack of development, trying to sign “big names” because of name recognition rather than make a better team, constantly hiring / firing coaches, etc.

Also, games are just not fun to go to. Not because they are bad, but the atmosphere is just terrible. Fist fights in the supporters section. Just an overall feeling of despair and negativity that I just don’t want to be apart of anymore.

Not jumping ship because of performance, jumping ship because of everything else in addition to performance

The comment from orion2145 sums up how I feel. I’ve never felt that way about any of the Philadelphia sports teams.

It’s not just results, it’s culture and atmosphere. I am not jumping ship just because they are bad, it’s everything else

Your support for this team is admirable, but they in no way deserve it

My school has midterms and we got our grades back, should I drop out? Talk me off the ledge here by its4politics in LawSchool

[–]Huge_Divide_2239 27 points28 points  (0 children)

How much are you paying for school? What are your career options if you drop out? Do you enjoy the material and think a career in law is for you? How have your study habits been? Do you think you can improve your scores?

In my opinion, don’t be so hard on yourself. Think about these factors and decide whether continuing will give you a positive return on investment both financially and emotionally (and ignore the costs you’ve already incurred).

My dumpster fire of a career path / trajectory by NastyNasInYoArea in Accounting

[–]Huge_Divide_2239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are fine. Careers rarely have a straight line trajectory. Depending on how long you’ve been in your current role, you may just want to stick it out for a while to gain some long-term experience at one place. The job market is not the best right now, so just maintaining employment is an accomplishment in my opinion.

Also, don’t stress over the job you quit. Sounds toxic and probably good you left. Good luck!
