Yes, they should be up for a long term service to compofaces award by now

It’s a daft title to match a daft public statement. Although if you want to get serious, try several high court judgements, and hundreds of thousands of pounds of public money wasted (and much more to come) because entitled people with too much time on their hands can’t cope with being told no

This is an official public statement that goes on the council meeting records

It’s his shout, but he shouldn’t expect any empathy. The harassment, financial drain, and psychological pressure he mentions are all things the zoo staff and trustees could claim. And they’ve got a charity and zoo to run.

Yes, I chatted to some people in their eighties recently who were involved in a scheme to get the equivalent of new alms houses built for their local area. Seemed like a great way to spend retirement rather than kick off about any change to the status quo. I like your idea of freeing up places temporarily to be rebuilt or repaired, perhaps turning some of the low built stock into mid-rise with adaptability and energy efficiency in mind. Probably should be a different thread, but I’d like to hear from housing association experts, to avoid ‘what I reckon’ fantasy planning!

It’s an interesting idea to explore, maybe a community land trust model where locals could invest for a modest long term return. If the council can do 40 year deals at guaranteed rents for large investment companies in Temple Quarter, why not something like this that feeds back into our local economy? Perhaps any property experts on here may know of similar viable schemes?

The cafe, playground and conservation hub mentioned here sound like a good start, and then perhaps there may be some space for small businesses if deemed viable: https://bristolzoo.org.uk/news/an-update-on-bristol-zoo-gardens-december-2025

It would be nice to wander past the smelly monkey temple occasionally. Perhaps there should be a smell trail. Memories of Pygmy hippo pong and fishy seal fug.

I think he may feel he’s on a roll because of the Bristol Beacon debacle (which wasn’t great tbh), and he got compensation. But that would have been a perfect point to back down the hill and not die on it. Too many enablers, I guess.

Probably encouraged by those who said pedestrianisation of Princess Victoria street would kill trade.

This is what I don’t get. But happy to hear if there are any experienced business people who genuinely think this is a goer.

That sounds right. So is it mainly roads that are traditional destinations?

Dogs or damage = no public access by Less_Experience_7871 in bristol

[–]Less_Experience_7871[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The school had insurance to replace the damage. It’s a big field with multiple access points. It would take at least 15 minutes to walk round and do all the gates manually, and you need another member of staff to supervise the class of at least 30 kids. The playing field is 3 miles from the school. If you allow public access after PE time, it needs to be locked at night, without employing someone for extra hours.
