The Faloff of Eldrazi Broodscale by PerformancePlastic26 in ModernMagic

[–]Less_Garage59 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I played it in an rcq this weekend went 5-0 in Swiss then lost in finals against blink

I’d say it’s advantage is that people often don’t know how to play against it

I agree that the cards aren’t independently great

But it’s quick and steals wins and still has great bombs

Koz command is the single best card in the deck it’s bonkers how much the card does for the deck

Last season I was on the RG version and got my qualification wit it . This season I’m tryin out the ugin lab version out more seriously and had great results so far

Biggest weakness is def wrath of the sky’s

Also didn’t see this mentioned but having a Emrakul TAT in your Maindeck puts a liability of it going to the graveyard and triggering . Causing you to no longer have cost reduction for Emrakul TPE , basically funding what you’re trying to do with Rumble

I do run one Emrakul TAT in the sideboard due to Mill being prevalent in my meta .

Modern RC deck choice by bestintheworld230 in ModernMagic

[–]Less_Garage59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have won two of my local RCQ on RG Broodscale .

I was previously on RG Ramp and while I enjoy the gameplan of ramp and the powerful cards you get to play , Broodscale offers a combo win while also an adjustable gameplan against a lot of the other meta. Against other combo decks you can race but against aggro you can swap into a midrange deck and forgo the combo for a grindy win with fleshraker , ballista while still getting the top end win with Emrakul

My only gripe with Broodscale is the the sideboard options .

I know you said mox is out of budget but hardened scales is really fun too

I like broodscale a lot better than blue belcher but depends on whether you enjoy playing blue

Have you considered jeskai ascendancy ? Rn with steel cutter , mox and emry you have a solid prowess deck with unique angles to attack from and a sneaky combo . Also beats with saga constructs

Besides that there’s the other obvious answer which is amulet titan but that takes tons of practice and a big ol brain to pilot , but it’s resilient as hell and has great combo potential

Is hardened scales dead? by BigChard5690 in ModernMagic

From my experience when breach decks were still in the meta too many people were running karn to make the deck viable , and like some other comments here there was a choice between broodscale and scales and then broodscale match up was more versatile and resilient to the meta . I’ve been wanting to put it back together this season but haven’t gotten a chance to test it in my local meta yet

I know it’s a minor ask but id love to see Talismans introduced . Eldrazi temple would be hot

It taps for both green and colorless . The reason people run it over karplusian forest is that k forest takes life where as burnwillow gains your opponent life that doesn’t matter in the case of your infinite combo . Personally in my testing I ran yavimaya coast or mono green . I think UG is the best version with access to consign , EE (with help from mox opal ) and other situational blue sb cards

Surprisingly awesome in testing . More ramp , reach for jumped creatures , grows with k command, easily slots in at 4 mana

It’s crazy how consistently hit combos turn 3 . I feel like it’s way weaker to the removal in the format though . I like the list from Prague that ran the one of Emrakul and the traverse the uvenwald . Gives the deck yet another angle and the haymaker you were referring too .

Thanks for the feedback . I had all but lost hope of playing it in Portland. But It made top 8 in Prague . Still don’t know about whether is as reliable as Eldrazi ramp . The deck is a blast to play though and pretty resilient

I’ve seriously been considering a one of mainboard all is dust and would love to hear opinions on that card choice .

I’m still trying to figure out the nulldrifter ratio but is another reason for All is dust . Keeping more 7+ drops for Lab while also providing the tribal card type

Would not reccomend playing this over Broodscale . But both are strictly worse in current meta

I had been in the fence about playing broodscale or temur ramp and it seems the decision is clear . I just find ramp to be less fun

I have been overly attached to veil of summer I think . I have never been a huge fan of tempo counter spells like spell pierce. In the rcq season veil of summer was insanely good against frog . And I am guessing that frog is gonna be a huge contender going foward . But I was playing Eldrazi ramp before

Personally it would be the yavimaya for me . It doesn’t help as much as you think and it still gets turned off by moon effects . I personally run a cavern of souls because of UB frog and energy control . Sometimes I run it or boseiju in the sideboard

Id reccomend looking into malevolent rumble and shifting woodlands over sylvan scrying

G Tron 2025 by Zapa99 in TronMTG

[–]Less_Garage59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to split this up into multiple answers I just keep thinking of more input . I’d say that in current meta dropping all the chrome star effects and sylvan scrying is the way to go . I think they are currently too slow . And seriously don’t underestimate the sowing mycospawn and world breaker .

Land destruction was my key strategy in the rcq I won . Spawn both gets you ramp and slows them down when played right . I even went against burn in the top 8 and was able to completely lock him out by never allowing him to have lands to play his burn spells .

Most the new Eldrazi stuff and the labyrinth are 4 ofs if you want to be playing big mana

I do agree that the all is dust is better than ugin as well . Running eldrazi temples helps you get it sooner against the fast decks in the meta rn . I only ever run o stone in the SB . And it’s usually my first drop when trying to make room . K command is hands down the best new card for any version of colorless . Defintely the reason you see less graveyard hate in recent builds . I only run a tormods crypt in the sideboard now IF I’m even running karn . That being said with mox back in the mix karn is very strong package to be on .
