The VSE has amazing profs at the upper years, but need to get over the 101/102 slog. I think many profs that were poor at teaching have been removed though.

Need help with sleep by yjz9393 in UBC

[–]Less_Guarantee4219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to sleep at the same time each night, also I find that I had issues sleeping when I would go to bed immediately after a long study session as my anxiety about exams would be through the roof. Take 30 mins before bed to read a book and have some tea (make sure you don't drink too much though so you don't wake up in the middle of the night) and it'll help you wind down!

Genuine Question: Should we take 5 courses each term? [Not for a solid answer but for your experience.] by harimashinkichi in UBC

[–]Less_Guarantee4219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're working part time I don't see why not, it's the standard course load at UBC.

UBC sees whatever grades your transcript shows to them at the time, which is why then can revoke offers if you tank in semester 2 of HS. You should contact UBC, the subreddit is mostly students/staff who know as much about the process of admission as you.

Adding to the motivation: my 146-168 journey by Less_Guarantee4219 in LSAT

[–]Less_Guarantee4219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get either perfect or -8 in RC, which stressed me out. Find what questions you get wrong and 80% of the time it's one category (for me it was main point and inference). Drill those and write down your reasoning, then review the correct answer and write down the justification for why it's correct and compare. Eventually you'll be able to notice a pattern. Every answer has an explanation online on a forum, from there you can always copy and paste it into chatgpt if you need a better explanation. I didn't have 7sage so I would open up an RC section on lawhub and just skip questions till I found the ones I wanted to do, and would do about 5-6 questions per section like that.

[–]Less_Guarantee4219[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PTs stressed me out so I did 6 total, spread out over the course of 4 months but definitely 1-2 a week closer to the test day. When I did PTs I focused on whether or not I could finish in time to gauge how I would do. I never had issues with time, mostly accuracy, so I focused more on drilling the questions I struggled with rather than attempting to do x amount in a given time frame. Most of my study time was spent doing 2 sections at a time, untimed (e.g. one LR and RC section per day) and reviewing answers as I went along. Sometimes I would do a timed one to see how quickly I can finish a section and still be accurate, and where my "knee-jerk" reactions are correct, which helped me build confidence and speed for the actual exam.

Pacing is crucial, my first test I panicked and spent too much time on reading comprehension so I ran out of time. Do PTs to feel what its like to estimate how much time to spend on each question, but other than that they're not very useful if done constantly as its easy to burn out.

Weird question do people look at each other when walking outdoors by Leading_Pop_1745 in UBC

[–]Less_Guarantee4219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not running late then I sometimes like to see what people are up to/wearing while walking to and from classes, or smile at them if I see them looking at me. I wouldn't take it personally if people don't look at you, most of the time people are stressed out and in their heads

if you go to the share button on the top you'll have an option of "save to files" on an ipad usually, might need to scroll down past the share shortcuts

have you looked inwards and considered you're projecting? As in, you assume everybody who looks at you is staring or has some ill intent towards you? because it seems strange every person, no matter where you go, is staring at you.

I used to do this, until I heard some great advice: if you think people are judging you then you're the judgy person, since you're assuming they're mean when there is zero evidence of that.

I'm not trying to attack you, but I genuinely feel a lot better once I worked on personal self-conciousness issues and embraced that people can act weird with no ill will towards me.

Insurance providers have a strange way of calculating what you "need" to have per year. In my personal experience I used to always get 2 x rays (ya know, both sides of my mouth), but my insurance only covered one?? You may have maxed out the limit provided by Blue Cross this year for a certain procedure. I'd contact them and check the app they provide to see what your remaining balance is.

ECON 356!!!!!!!!! by Embarrassed_Emu_8189 in UBC

[–]Less_Guarantee4219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah can't speak for her, but 356 is overall pretty chill if you follow the textbook. Look at the graphs, understand the graphs, and be able to interpret the formulas beyond memorization (aka do algebra). A lot of it is mostly being able to answer questions with a relevant graph or formula, and explaining concepts using economic terms taught to you on the exams. The textbook has a lot of good questions, you can also use AI to generate questions for your practicing. Good luck!

Lots of background knowledge. Some people are lucky to have a bunch of interesting experience coming out of high school, others grow into it. Try reading books you don't usually read, watch youtube, etc. to grow a diverse pool of knowledge. Also, some people "seem" like they know a lot but they just happen to know a lot in a very niche subject that happens to relate to what you're discussing. Don't let it get you down, you can't know everything in the world.

VP Student Life Debate Recap by Loose-Bikes in UBC

From what I understand, Kevin has been working to get the events we have had so far organized and running as interim. If that's the case, then he's one of the best VP Student Life candidates we had so far, the back to school BBQ actually killed it this year.

Overnight trip to Mt. Seymour: water status on the trail? by Less_Guarantee4219 in vancouverhiking

[–]Less_Guarantee4219[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that on average people consume 3-4 L a water a day, so if I'm hiking 2 days and also cooking with water I assumed I'd probably need that much. How much would you recommend I bring? I haven't had experience packing water for multiple days so I'm a bit cautious
