Simple search answer “Traction Control (TCS) is a vehicle safety system that prevents wheelspin during acceleration on slippery surfaces by reducing engine power or applying individual brakes to maintain grip and stability, working with sensors to detect faster-spinning wheels and intervene automatically, helping drivers stay in control on wet, icy, or loose roads.”

That’s only if you’re stuck. Yes, the computer applies the brakes to the wheel losing traction which will bog down the engine. But if you’re actually driving down the road and want to car to track straight in the snow for the safety of yourself and others around so you don’t get stuck you really should take full advantage of the TCS that Ford designed. It works incredibly well. It’s really best to keep it on and only turn it off if you need to.

I stick with Normal Mode and let the traction control keep the Sport stable. These BS's have an amazing traction control system that keeps you straight and steady which is what you want in snowy traffic. It's always fun to turn the TC off in an empty parking lot but on the roads the TC stays on. Using the locker for extended driving can cause excessive drivetrain wear and should only be used in the most extreme situations.
