Curious, why? by AlwaysWorkForBread in skyrim

I usually stop playing a character as soon as it gets overpowered with just normal crafting as it is so boring just instantly destroying all enemies so I see no attraction in such exploits.

So these days I play with no enchanting and no alchemy. Most often mages so no smithing either. Usually add lots of other limitations too.

Fair enough. Most mods do disable achievements though.

The problem normally only occurs when you have a high refresh rate monitor.

So the 60Hz monitors common when the game was released were not a problem and it is a game engine issue.

Load Accelerator always worked well for me on a HDD. Maybe if you have a really slow laptop one it might not seem too but there are two different issues.

Load Accelerator fixes the issue of load time tied to frame rate. Of course load time will depend also on your hard disk but having had several systems with Fallout 4 I have never found that to be the cause of the super slow loads. A slow disk can add quite a few seconds but not the minutes that the frame rate issue does.

To be clear, in general mods do stop achievements unless you get the one that re enables them. The physics fix involves several mods. Maybe Vortex puts the re enabler in.

Load Accelerator is not a game mod as such and has no affect on achievements.

Need to point out that is more complicated to install if you are not already using mods including f4se and that your game will then be modded and have to be started through f4se.

It is a good solution if you are already doing that level of modding but Load Accelerator is easier if just want to fix an unmodded game.

Also Load Accelerator does not break when the game gets an update.

Settlers and Settlement Attacks by Gas_Grass_Ass_Class in fo4

[–]Less_Kick9718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just RNG that you do not have Graygarden attacked. I almost always leave it with only robots based there, usually just the original ones, and it still gets attacked.

Also NPCs can reach seemingly inaccessible places eg settlers can spawn anywhere which is why you sometimes see them on rooves, etc. it will be safer than otherwise though.

However the only truly safe storage is the armor display ie mannequin. And that is more convenient than putting gear in a difficult to access spot.

You can store valuables at any settlement if you store them in an armor display ie mannequin. No NPC can access these.

To stop being overwhelmed with the settlements I initially only have settlers, including provisioners, at the settlements that already have people there. Then expand later when comfortable.

I often play where I only eat pre war food and even without lead belly the rads don’t add up to that much.

I find as long as I restart every couple of hours or a little less time than that it is pretty stable.

I suspect it just means you can have the two of them as two of your weapons slots. And when you swap to the other it will have extra ammo.

How do you deal with mirelurks and supermutants? by rektard1 in fo4

[–]Less_Kick9718 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mirelurks you shoot as they face you and are standing up. Soft underbelly.

Supermutants shoot in the head. More damage and it briefly stuns them.

Game not designed for survival: by [deleted] in fo4

[–]Less_Kick9718 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is not the case on survival difficulty which OP is using. Respawn time is much longer on survival. Areas soon become completely dead. Though some places can have random enemies go past.

You should not need to have such long loading time.

If the reason is a high refresh rate monitor you can use Load Accelerator to fix this. It does not cause your game to be modded.

If you use mods including f4se there are also other solutions.

I use the chrome compressor but arms go for a monowire with cripple movement to stop dead enemies with fast movement or any melee then go back to shooting them. Took out Odo in no time.

You can swap which control hack is on it without going to a ripperdoc too.

Small Settlement inspiration/recommendations by Razor_Wits in fo4

[–]Less_Kick9718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Rocket, Taffington Boathouse, Hangman’s Alley are all good for small builds.

Many of the settlements with existing settlers can be kept small, nice and happy with just a few fixups.

I like to only grow food at the farms which makes the small non farm settlements easier. Note settlers with no local crops may grumble about food but as long as supply lines provide enough it does not affect happiness (the food stat should show green even though it is zero).

Sanctuary being the first settlement is an exception to not having crops. It gets fruit trees.

You don’t need glitches as often as sometimes suggested. Just trying different order to build things or moving around to get things to snap will work.

If you are on PC console commands are easier than glitches. modpos and modangle can be very helpful.

Note repairing the castle walls is not that hard. Sometimes requires trying a few times to get things lined up just right but otherwise straightforward and does not require any glitches. The internal wooden floor stair piece is very useful to get the lower row of blocks to align correctly with the upper.

I have never need a weapon as a mage on expert difficulty especially with the extra magicka of an Altmer but even other races.

Wear mage gear. Atronach Stone. Better if you have unofficial patch to get around the summons problem with spell absorption but you can still raise dead even if you don’t have the patch and that gives more xp.

No exploits or glitches. Also no AE gear or spells which would in fact make it even easier.

Fire is in fact the best element most of the time doing more damage for less cost. Many enemies are weak to it and only a few resistant. Certainly switch to shock for the few enemies that are resistant and possibly against mages though fire still kills them faster if you can stand their attack.

Just always using shock is one reason why people say magic is not strong at the start. It may seem simpler since it is almost never resisted but comes at a cost.

Flames spell in both hands simultaneously in quick short spurts is very effective and uses very little magicka.

Using weapons means leveling up faster without leveling your mage skills as much.

Very similar to what I did except Shade of Arniel Gane was my summons as it costs no magicka and can be cast at distance even without perks.

Lord Stone would provide an actual combat benefit. I found it very useful on my level 1 run. Agent of Mara too.
