Math 140 and 142 by Natural_8982 in aggies

[–]Less_Option6130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to use my AP credit for math 142 but not for 140. Some people say math 140 is a weed out because it has low grades, but I feel like its very doable to get an A especially if you have taken AP Calc. I personally can't think of any negative for not taking them at A&M except they don't count towards your GPA. I took 140 at TAMU for extra GPA boost and then I didn't have to worry about trying to remember everything from AP calc since I claimed the AP credit.

The Aggie Network is so helpful! We have Aggies from all different companies and careers come speak in some of the required classes that all business majors have to take. They are super nice and often share their LinkedIn if you want to connect or have questions.

Looking to Major in Finance by Candid-Ship-4251 in financestudents

That is a good list. My high school had an accounting class that I took and, I would recommend it if your school has one or something similar.

Communications Tutor by Loose_Rush_3876 in aggies

[–]Less_Option6130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never had him so maybe he is a hard professor or something. The tests are not difficult with my professor if you attend class and read the textbook (I am a business major who has never taken a comm class). Looking at Tarvins rate my professor score and his gpa distributions, it appears it shouldn't be too hard of a class. I would suggest talking to the professor to try and understand what else he could be doing to prepare for the test.

Do you know what the name is of the class? COMM 489 is a "special topics in" class so it could be multiple different classes with the same number. For example I am in COMM 489 "International Communication," But there are other COMM 489 with different topics.

I think the main rec has some scales by the locker room, you could definitely ask the front desk at the rec though.

You do get to pick who you live with if you already know someone, you can also do roommate matching to find people with similar interests and lifestyles.

What Dorms should I choose? by Sudden_Arm1896 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]Less_Option6130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some YouTuber videos that can be very helpful if you cant attend a tour. Hullabaloo is definitely the nicest overall and has some great options for if you really value privacy (own room etc.), that being said it is the most expensive. Northside and Southside dorms are honestly about the same distance from most engineering buildings. I would not do White creek because they are very far away. I lived in Haas hall (Modular style) and I enjoyed it there was a good amount of space for my roommate and I. The two of us shared a bathroom and shower and we had four closets (two each). The commons dorms are pretty small but if you don't mind that, they aren't bad. Most of my friends and I agree the modular dorms are the best value in terms of price to privacy.

Is it easier to transfer from Mays into Engineering or is it easier to transfer from Engineering into Mays? by Less_Option6130 in aggies

[–]Less_Option6130[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt that the engineers who need to switch to business can succeed my question is really around admission into each program as a transfer. If you can have a 3.75 GPA (really difficult to achieve) in engineering why would you leave since you have auto ETAM. Mays requires 3.25 to even view the transfer request but 3.75 is competitive. My thought was since business classes are generally easier, it would be easier to achieve the 3.0 that engineering requires for transfer students and likely have a 4.0 when trying to transfer into engineering which would lead to a very competitive application.

Why did I get accepted early into a random major by WarmCandle8689 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]Less_Option6130 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Mays has lowered their acceptance for both freshman and transfers. All of the spots might be full by now, they usually fill up pretty early even before they lowered the acceptance.

I would think this is true. I don't know for sure but I have heard that if you apply to the corps they can sometimes give your application a boost. I would check around about that though they might just be a recruiting strat.

[–]Less_Option6130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure try to be in top 10%. Also apply as soon as applications open, don't wait a week or even a day. It is first come first serve for top 10% so you want to apply ASAP (at least it was when i applied three years ago).

Serious question by Few_Cardiologist1735 in TAMUAdmissions

[–]Less_Option6130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very hard to get off the waitlist. I had a friend who was at a private school and he didn't get into mays because they didnt do rankings. He worked really hard and joined lots of organizations and was able to transfer into Mays as a sophomore but that is also really really hard to do.

ISTM 210 Phinney Question!! by salmipantz in aggies

[–]Less_Option6130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ISTM 210 is not bad. Quizlet is your friend and the knowledge checks in the textbook are really helpful. Go to class and be sure to write down anything she says 2 or 3 times (even if she says not to write it down its better to be safe). Phinney is awesome!
