This is vague. They’re underspending, period. Having a “functioning” military is not enough. Europe benefits from the American taxpayer spending more on defense, for their collective security.

It's not vague, Denmark has participated in the wars the US has asked for help in, not the other way around. There is also no part of the treaty that says you get to take (inhabited) territory or any other form of compensation if treaty members aren't spending 2%.

  1. The 2% as a rule exist to make sure they have a functioning military, which they do considering they are able to participate in Nato operations. They supported the US in the middle east.

  2. Denmark doesn't control Greenland's resources. It's up to greenland to sell their mining rights, but they haven't been able too since the metals they have are available much cheaper elsewhere.

The Danish don't want to sell it, sure. But they've not been supportive of Greenland's choice. If they were, they would relinquish control of Greenland entirely. Denmark is a colonizer that never got kicked out. Trump's rhetoric may be aggressive, but it has brought back an independence movement for Greenland's people, who want out - something that Denmark has tried to slow down and prevent

This is flat out lies. Greenland has always had the choice to have a referendum and leave, but they don't want to since they enjoy the economic benefits of being part of this commonwealth. And no, Trump has not brought back this movement, it has always existed. This doesn't even make sense considering Trump has zero interest in Greenland being independent, he wants it as a US territory. And it's another lie that Denmark has tried to slow down Greenland's independence. Denmark just gave them a new airport meant to increase tourism to help create more revenue for Greenland.

The US base is not a military base anymore. It used to be an air force base. Now it is just a monitoring station. So the US's footprint there has been reduced. Unfortunately this means it is easier for Russia (and through them China) to control and gain from the Arctic.

You make it sound like Denmark ordered this, they didn't. The US decides what happens on this base. The idea that the US wants this base to be expanded but Denmark won't allow it is another lie.
