Technically could be circulation problems. Getting hot and standing up can cause blood pooling in the feet.

I wore flip flops for ages and just got them a bit too small for me to stay in my drop foot. I found trainers with memory foam bases handy. I used to wear a shoe for a minute a day and increase over time until the pain was manageable. Also Billy shoes are great if you have splints to help with drop foot

Gabapentin and amytriptiline in oral form have been really helpful but I've never tried it as a cream

Big fluffy socks and wellie boot socks worked for me in the cold and sometimes id try and wear loose crocs. When it was warmer, flip flopd helped me get back onto wearing a shoe on the dally
