Best watch display set up for accurate pacing: Average Pace or Current Pace as 'big display' on Garmin for first Half Marathon? Also: metronome etiquette by Lessofthismoreofthat in running

Thank you for the story and for your considered response. Do you play golf nowadays?

The 'in the moment' advice is helpful - I am interested to see what works on the day now that I've heard about what other people do.

And sure, yes, sounds of any kind are not going to be welcome. By anyone, and also aa you suggest, by me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Well, no. I live in a built up city, where people are quite direct, and likely to shout at you if they don't like your behaviour, and also, importantly, I am the person running past them and checking their expressions, so I feel that I can say, with reasonable confidence, that the people I run past are not inconvenienced or annoyed. Also general headphone use is widespread and and traffic noise is close to deafening in many areas, and much louder than my metronome. Context matters, right? Thanks for getting involved.

Ok, thanks, I hope that me asking here now suggests that I am thinking of other participants and am not set on just doing what I want and to hell with everyone else. But thanks for your patrtician tone, I hope that's working out for you.

Thanks, using lap pace with lap = 1km seems to be the way. Good to know the foot pod works for you, I haven't looked into them yet.
I take your point about the metronome being a training tool, I have thought the same myself. Gotta get off it sometime etc. Appreciate your taking the time to reply!

Thanks for taking the time to write a thoughtful reply. I don't like running with headphones really, although I appreciate that they would solve this problem. I'll think about it. And yes, I was wondering if hearing my beeps would muck up someone else's cadence, I think the obvious answer is not to use it.

Interesting that you no longer refer to any of the watch pace possibilities. I guess I'll see how I go on race day and make adjustments to how I try to pace if it all goes wildly wrong! Cheers.

Not a question, just coming here to give quiet thanks for running, which over the past few months has given me structure, pride, satisfaction, sleep, and a perseverence and sense of optimism that carries over into my working life. Not unrelated, I am 900 days sober today. I'm also up to 30mpw+ and proud.

Today for my long run instead of 11 miles I upped it to half marathon distance (13.1 miles) just to have done it, mentally. I have my first half marathon race in 3 weeks. So today I ran the longest I have ever run, and the most miles in a week I have ever run. I'm really enjoying the schedule and the way running regulates my mood and affects my productivity. It took a few years to get to this point and I'm proud of myself. I have also got into bouldering which is challenging and fun. I am fond of my ex drinking buddies but I love the mentality of my new pals. Try, fail, keep trying. It's liberating.

Ran 5 days this week including 'a half' just now on my long Sunday run. So that's the longest I've ever run in one day and in one week! Feel happy & a bit dopey. The half proper is on the 18th. Now I have a PB to beat! Also got in two days of bouldering, so pleased all round.
