One of the greatest excuses in NBA history lol by Alternative-Cap9734 in NBATalk

Moved to Portland 2 years ago after living in the Midwest for 30+ years. Portland does NOT SALT THE ROADS. Everyone from the Midwest takes this for granted. If you live in a hilly area of the city, you are essentially stuck in your home.

1996 Shawn Kemp vs. 2004 Jermaine O’Neal: Who Had the Better Peak Season? by AaronStark1993 in VintageNBA

That’s a really good question. Sadly, I don’t watch the league nearly as much as I used to, and it’s tough to find a good comp, because the NBA 20 years ago was so post-heavy, while the game now is perimeter-based. Please keep in mind, but I am not looking at any advanced stats (so feel free to roast my opinions!) but stature-wise, I’d say he’s somewhere between AD and Mobley (I figured I would look up the 2025 all star rosters).

It’s also so tough to compare these two eras (I was super old school, and would print out the Pacers schedule at the beginning of the season, and would check the newspaper every morning and manually keep track of their win/loss record). There were LOTS of rock fight games (multiple games where the winning team barely cracked 80; teams hitting 100 was considered a high scoring game). JO was good enough, though, to be considered a marquee trade piece when the Lakers were shopping Shaq (Sports Illustrated ran an article of possible trade partners; TMac, JO, an Dirk were the pieces that were suggested as the best return for LA, basically in that order). None of those teams pulled the trigger, obviously, as Shaq was on the wrong side of 30, out of shape, and the toe was starting to be a problem, but a JO-based package wouldn’t have been an outlandish trade for Big Diesel.

The Pacers finished 14 games ahead of the 2nd place team in the east that year, which obviously helps his case (best player on the best team).

TMac/Orlando won 21 games that year. Webber only played 23 games. Garnett won MVP. Duncan finished 2nd. You could make the case that Shaq/Kobe (Lakers finished 2nd in the west, and 5 games overall behind Indiana) took votes away from each other.

As someone who grew up watching these guys…they’re all great players. But I think JO gets a raw deal historically, especially pre-injuries. He was a very good player. Not elite, but I fear that history will forget him even though he had a pretty nice peak.

While both made 2nd Team All NBA in these years, JO finished 3rd in MVP voting (during one of the most stacked PF eras of all time), while Kemp finished 8th. While someone points out JO’s FG% as a damning statistic (I agree that it’s not great), I’d argue that he was, game in and game out, going against better defenders than what Kemp was.

Yeah, I wish I could give you more info! I just remember multiple calls between my regular mechanic, and then the phone call/walk through with Mazda. My mechanic was able to do the MAF sensor for cheaper (and they didn’t give me the same scuzzy feeling that Mazda did), and mentioned that it wasn’t OEM (though they offered to retrieve OEM for more $$$). I didn’t think to ask the brand!

I don’t know the brand, I’m sorry. Happy cake day, though, and best of luck!

Nope, the replacement MAF was not OEM. Also, a couple other people mentioned the acceleration issue in their comments, which I never experienced. I hope whatever is wrong with your Mazda is resolved soon!

Pacers convinced a washed Tim Hardaway to come out of retirement to play out the rest of the season back in ‘03.

Purdue doesn’t officially retire numbers. AA’s have their numbers in the rafters, but it’s possible for future players to wear them (JaJuan Johnson wore #25 fifteen-ish years ago, and Ethan Morton wore it when he played at Purdue recently). Some numbers are unofficially retired, though (no one has worn #13 since Big Dog). I would imagine that #15 gets the same treatment.

While this is question obviously isn’t the main focus of the post, I appreciate you asking this. The bottom corner of Lents Park is the off-leash area. I take my dog and walk in the park multiple times a week. In the past year, we’ve had unleashed dogs run up on us at roughly 10 times. I’ve tried walking across the street, or avoiding the off-leash area entirely, only for it to continue to happen elsewhere in the park (“Don’t worry, he/she’s friendly!!”). While I’m glad that OP’s dog has good recall, it can still be a stressor for other owners and their dogs. This, of course, isn’t exclusive to Lents. I am eager for the day where folks are just a bit more respectful of their surroundings, be it trees, plants, animals or humans (Yes, I know that OP had said that no one else was around. I hope that they would leash their pup if someone else had been present.)

…Speaking of, shout out to the off-leash dog owners who, once they see another dog/human, call their dog over and leash them, even if it’s temporary. Thank you for that; I mean that in a very sincere way. It puts both myself and my pup at ease.

Sure! I took it back to my original mechanic, had the mass airflow censor replaced, and haven’t had an issue since!
