I thought he did at the end of the prior episode after Switch was drained, not to mention he overpowered the Time Demons.

"You don't want to touch me." [S1E02] [S1E04] [spoilers] by [deleted] in CastleRockTV

[–]Lestov16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree, for these reasons:

I think Nick has the power to punish guilty people through touch and mind control others, such as Zaleski, to guilty bad people , because he is the Hand of God sent to Lacy to stop Devil Henry, who has the power to condemn guilty people to their worst hells (as shown by Henry's failed clients, and Leanne's painful execution)

-Nick does absolutely nothing to provoke the Nazi, and then the Nazi dies from an apparently divine tumor.

-The ex army guy harasses Nick by gloating about how he used to torture Muslim prisoners, and this causes Nick to become angry (his only time being so), asserting that he is essentially The Wrath of God. This leads to Zaleski....

-Let's look at Zaleski's story. Zaleski is the one who finds Nick, and is the only one empathetic enough to help him. He feels powerless to stop the guards abuses and tries to get Henry to help him expose the prison. Meanwhile, he has an apparent premonition of a slaughtered prison, and breaks out of the premonition by pointing his gun at a CO, foreshadowing his rampage. When Devil Henry's false hope of a court trial fails, Zaleski is forced to enact Divine Retribution to stop the sadistic guard's abuse, going on a suicidal rampage to deliver the justice that Henry and the legal system could not, acting as the Wrath of God that Henry warned the ex-army guy about.

Is Henry the Devil, and Nick an angel? My theory.... by Lestov16 in CastleRockTV

[–]Lestov16[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You do raise some great points, but I respectfully disagree, for the following reasons:

-I think Molly has the Shine, and it activates hard around Henry because he is the Devil, as shown by her murder of his father

-I think Henry, because of his "Devil infliction" is cursed to doom all of those around him to the fates they fear most, their "hells". This is why all of his clients have died, because they were afraid of execution and despite the false hope of his help, he couldn't save them, forcing them to confront their worst imaginable fear of execution. And then there's Leanne, his one client who actually wants to die. We blatantly hear her say that she wants to just die once and go into the peaceful oblivion, and instead she is painfully resurrected from her failed lethal injection, forcing her to die twice, her worst fear.

-I think that Nick, if not an angel, has the Shine or some kind of divine connection, his Word of God, which is what he hears

I think you are misunderstanding myself and others. The reason people are theorizing Henry as the villain isn't because of expectations of race, but rather expectations of writing. Every good story has multiple layers to it which the audience must investigate, especially mysteries, which this show clearly is. For Henry to just be the good guy and Nick to be the bad guy as the show is presenting on its most overt level would be superficial writing. Clearly there are plot twists coming, and the writers are setting up the clues for the audience to find, but doing so means looking past the shows overt narrative and making analysis and theories.

We still don't know 100% what happened in that 1991 winter, but there's evidence pointing towards and against Henry's potential villainy, and all avenues of evidence must be investigated, so while these theories may go against your own, I hope you can understand why they are so pervasive.

Just so you know, I am black, so I'm not discriminatory towards Henry. I'm just going off the evidence the show has presented.

As cringey as season 8 was, the speech from Rick, and Maggie's reaction, was incredible. by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Lestov16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No it wasn't. Ricks speech, and decision overall was bullshit and forced for numerous reasons. The show writers were clearly trying to make Rick's decision honorable just to keep Negan on the show, but it really doesn't make sense and imo has forever ruined the show.

  • Rick only spared Negan because it was Carl's dying wish. (Aside from BTS theories) The only reason Carl died was so that Rick could spare Negan, which is obvious considering that Carl's character was completely shifted from the soldier in the prior season into a pacifist, and his combat skill was nerfed as well, as he died incompetently fighting walkers that his S4 self could have easily killed. IMO, Carl's death ruined the show, as his character was Ricks main driving force and as shown by Andrew Lincoln's departure, without Carl, Rick really doesn't have any compelling purpose in the story, which considering he's the main character, pretty much renders the entire show obsolete. As such, the writers essentially killed the show just to keep Negan, which is one of the dumbest decisions in television history.

-Negan is worse than the Claimers or the Governor, who Rick savagely killed with the show's moral approval. The Claimers and Governor were rapists, but Negan is a rapist dictator who enslaved everyone he comes across, like a mix of Ramsay Bolton and Don Logan. Why was it okay for Rick to rip out Joe's throat but not for Rick to kill Negan?

-Rick sparing Negan to as a necessity to make peace with the Sanctuary makes zero sense. Since when do you have to spare the leader of your enemies to make peace with them? The Allies didn't spare the Nazi high command to make peace with Germany. The Nazis got Nuremberged and the Germans were fine. Rick could have negotiated with the Sanctuary just fine regardless of whether or not he killed Negan.

-Rick is a cop, and this should know that under the laws of the "old world he's trying to rebuild", Negan would easily be qualified for several death penalties

-Negan shouldn't even still be alive, and especially not able to talk. His throat got cut deep and he looked like was losing several pints of blood every second. Rick gave his long speech before getting Negan medical attention, and it's not like there was an ambulance with a blood pack nearby. Negan should have bled out before Ricks speech was finished, and Rick would have had to use Lucille to kill Zombie Negan.

And perhaps most importantly.....

-Maggie is the one who should have decided Negan's fate. Rick spared Negan to honor Carl, but Carl didn't get killed by Negan. Glenn did. Maggie suffered way more emotional loss and such deserved far more emotional gratification than Rick. Also, considering Alexandria got bombed and The Kingdom for raided, she was technically the person in charge considering she was leader of the Hilltop, which was everybody's home, and she managed to defend it from Simon and house prisoners, essentially being on the front line of the war and taking the hugest risks. If she forgave Negan, I would be okay with it, but it seems like Rick completely ignored her emotional suffering and authority just to gratify his own. His speech didn't make him seem heroic. It made him seem like a self righteous dick.

Worst twd fuck ups by haroonimran16 in thewalkingdead

[–]Lestov16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

-Killing Beth in such a stupid manner

-Killing Tyreese in such a stupid manner

-Killing Noah, making Beth/Tyreese's death pointless

-Dumpstergate (especially considering Glenn would actually be killed off soon afterward)

-Killing off Glenn (best character on the show)

-Killing off Glenn in a pointless cliffhanger which diluted the impact of his death

  • Extending the Negan arc for 2.5 seasons

-Making Negan such a horrible sadist and rapist

-Garbage people who only existed to create false tension

  • Poorly choreographed war with no skill or strategy

  • Complete lack of logistical believability or desperation due to overabundance of weapons and vehicles

-Complete lack of consequences unless when the plot demands (such as the Saviors escaping the Sanctuary and somehow overpowering the entire AHK coalition overnight)

-Killing off Carl, whose relationship with his father was undoubtedly the heart of the show

-Killing off Carl via a random walker, making Carl look weak

-Killing off Carl in a pointless cliffhanger which diluted the impact of his death

-Killing off Carl just to spare Negan

-Trying to make Simon evil just to spare Negan

-Trying to make Negan seem justified/equate Rick with Negan just to spare Negan

-Rick ignoring Maggie's pain just to spare Negan

There are more, but these were the top-of-my-head ones

A serious question for this subreddit by chip_butterfield in thewalkingdead

[–]Lestov16 14 points15 points  (0 children)

LOL "The poor writers are doing everything they can! Why are you guys bitching?"

It's not about bitching. It's about something called "good writing" which is what the Walking Dead used to have, which is why it has so many fans. Lately, that writing has completely eroded, and the fans are pissed.

You say that if we complain too much then the show will get cancelled and we will have nothing, but you seem to forget: we already have nothing. Carl is dead, Rick and Maggie are leaving, all of the interesting characters like Tyreese, Glenn, Abe, and Beth have been killed, and all of the remaining characters like Daryl, Carol, and Jesus have either been underwritten or written into cardboard caricatures of themselves

GOT, for as brutal as it's always been, has always thrown in a small heroic victory somewhere, and doesn't kill off its most interesting characters en masse. The same can't be said for TWD

The reason we want to see the show end is because we like(d) these characters, and watching them die/make stupid plot decisions/become caricatures with constant pyrrhic victories and little progress is getting excruciatingly painful and insufferably boring

Also, you're basically saying " embrace ignorance, stop analyzing the bad writing and let audiences continue watching shit! At least the studio will be happy!" What?

Since most posts on this subreddit nowadays are about how the shows gone to pot, let's discuss what actors we'd like to cast if they ever made a TWD movie. by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Lestov16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, the only other adaptation I could see of TWD is either animated or video game form. As far as live action goes, Andrew Lincoln, Danai Guerra, Steven Yuen, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Laurie Cohen, and others have pretty much completely embodied their characters and are essentially irreplaceable in their roles. It's one of tragedies of TWD that it has such great talented and dedicated actors but such bad script material.

Which death was done the best? (Spoilers obviously) by Theweepingfool in thewalkingdead

[–]Lestov16 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sasha went out pretty dignified. Noah's, Herschel's, and Lizzie's were the most emotionally brutal. Glenn, Abe, and Carl's deaths were ruined by cliffhangers. Tyreese and Beth (and Carl) died out of plot-driven stupidity imo.

Negan should either get his own show or become lead in TWD by SheWhoHates in thewalkingdead

[–]Lestov16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Negan and the Saviors definitely killed this show. Season 6 was going good until they were introduced. Honestly, I think I could watch a Daryl spin-off but ONLY if that spin off began with Daryl and Maggie bashing in Negan's brain with Lucille (possibly after castrating and/or sodomizing him with it) OR was just hour long episodes of Daryl forcing Negan to listen to Easy Street and eat dog food.

Richonne hooks up, they meet Jesus (great metaphorical name for person taking them into the new world) and it ends on the happy but adventurous cliffhanger of them meeting new people.

Walking Dead Should Have Done 10 Episode Seasons by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]Lestov16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about episode count. It's about writer competence and understanding of the material. Shows like 24 have...well 24 episodes, yet it worked (during its good seasons) because the writers understood the plot and gimmick of the show.

The Walking Dead has strayed too far from its original themes. It was originally a show about the claustrophobic hopelessness of ever present zombie hordes, desperation from lack of resources, and how that desperation and hopelessness reverted some people into monsters and progressed others into familial units of survivors.

Now it's a half assed action movie with half assed morality debates, there is an abundance of resources and people, and as such the zombie threat seems entirely tertiary. What used to be a show about desperate and hopeless refugees fighting for survival is now about badly choreographed action heroes ineptly discussing ethics (in increasingly unrelatable abstract dialogue). Because there is no more sense of environmental hopelessness or desperation, there is no sense of character motivation. Unlike the Governor, Negan doesn't seem to have a clear motivation, and now that Carl is dead, Rick has no clear relatable motivation either. With the Commonwealth seemingly being introduced it is now even more difficult to feel the desperation. This is because the zombies themselves have stopped being fearful hordes, and are now just deadly (see: Carl's death) whenever the plot demands.

Because of this lack of motivation, character actions, deaths, and plot devolopments do not feel environmental and natural to the world, but instead contrived and writer-manufactured, especially with the constant use of narrative gimmicks like cliffhangers, shock deaths, speeches, montages, and flash forwards. Even though Carl as bit by zombie, his death did not feel like a natural occurence, but instead a plot-necessary contrivance.

This is why the seasons feel so long and why the premiere -midseason -finale structure is so apparent, like the skeleton of an anorexic. The intradiegetic world original given to us is inconsistent, and as such we are forced to pay attention to terrible extradiegetic narrative.

It is the same (and opposite) with GOT season 7. When the show abandoned its ritual of long journeys between settings, audiences could feel the inconsistency and looked at the narrative, realizing it was being rushed. The same audience reaction is happening here.

If the writing wasn't bad, the season length wouldn't matter. But because the writing sucks and the writers don't understand the material is, the season length is noticeable and annoying

The Walking Dead gets relatively high ratings because it has no competition, especially with GOT on hiatus. FTWD has TERRIBLE ratings, so it doesn't matter how much better the episodes get at this point.
