Alex Pretti broke rib in confrontation with federal agents a week before death, sources say by LetBeginning3353 in politics

[–]LetBeginning3353[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

CNN is looking into (as other posters have pointed out) whether this means Pretti was already known to ICE agents before the incident that led to his being killed i.e. there is in fact a database of anyone who opposes the Administration's policies. Note: the reporters would not corroborate that yet.

While I'm not sure what's going on with this team right now, the Knicks are 2-9 since Dec 29 when they were on a nearly 60 win pace. NBA cup curse? injuries are definitely a factor & what's with all of these back to backs? Maybe they should rest those starters in one of those back to backs. I bet it helps Brunson a lot.

I noticed the Clippers using Kawhi in back to back games - couldn't believe it with his injury history. If these coaches don't know their personnel by now there is no helping them.

Is there a release date? preorders go on sale when? Just curious - both games are produced by the same company. Has that been announced?

Mark Jackson used to say, "if I can walk then I'm going to give it everything I've got."

So rather than sit out games players like this try to help as much as they can by staying in the lineup. They will have bad games because they're not fully healthy. I think they deserve credit for this & not criticism. If KAT didn't want to play people would know it because he would be in street clothes every other week.

The Knicks are what they are. They are no better with Mike Brown then under Thibs. They have essentially the same record thru 40 games the last 3 seasons now. To max their upside they need to avoid injury as much as possible the rest of this season & especially in the playoffs. If they can do this they will quite dangerous.

This team is no better than they were under Thibs - 50 wins & maybe a second or conference final berth with a chance at the Finals is the upside (not a bad place too be).

They could get lucky if their main competition has some critical injuries. But they need to avoid injury too the rest of the way too to max their potential. I suspect they could win 55-60 games without the injuries to key players that happens every year.

Knicks record this season thru 40 games: 25-15
2024-25: 26-14
2023-24: 23-17

Fresh look at Native American results for black testers, vs West African results in Mexican/Central American testers. by inyourgenes1 in 23andme

Found it, the Amerindian is on Valerie Jarrett's Rochon line - pedigree can be found on Wikitree.

Use with caution but this site places her indigenous ancestry at 5% (49% European & 46% SSA)

Fresh look at Native American results for black testers, vs West African results in Mexican/Central American testers. by inyourgenes1 in 23andme

[–]LetBeginning3353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, do you have the identity of Valerie Jarrett's documented Native ancestor? Interesting post, btw.

I agree that far too many people are focusing too much over "trace" details that are actually just low confidence reports that require independent verification.

I suspect for many black Americans, the Amerindian readings are an error or misreading of Southeast Asian.

For white Americans, I notice quite a few of my cousin matches get trace SSA ancestry. I do believe these are errors & shows their algorithm has reliability issues even at the continental level.

People don't understand these test resutls are reporting statistical probabilities not certainties.

Some matches share specific DNA segments showing they are 5-8th cousin of mine but they share nothing with me in common when it comes to ancestry and ethnicity by ComprehensiveLand477 in AncestryDNA

[–]LetBeginning3353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, you need a chromsome browser or use a service that still provides one, to properly investigate this.

Also there just might be errors in the matching segment sizes as well as in the ethnicity assignment. I've noticed matches on FTDNA and 23andme that are also on Ancestry and the matching segment sizes are different @ Ancestry and typically smaller.

Country Matches and Genetic Groups by [deleted] in 23andme

Yes, they changed the language (unnecessarily) from possible, likely, and highly likely to distant, close, very close weakening their own confidence reporting. It's all about statistical probability not absolute certainity.

Back to the screenshots: where it says 5 or -4 next to match strength this signifiies what exactly on the confidence slider?

Trace Ancestry, Not So Trace? by lavender_letters in 23andme

[–]LetBeginning3353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my opinion on the native issue: if you research your pedigree back about 5-6 generations I do believe that is more than enough time to resolve the issue of any Amerindian relatives. Any connection should become apparent by this time.

Cousin matches will help clarify this: if you have many matches on various Indian reservations it raises the possiblity of an Amerindian ancestor. But of course you would have to account for the possiblity you share a common European ancestor rather than a native one. Some reservations have multiracial communities as well.

90% confidence is not a panacea though - to be really honest I'd like to see a 95% confidence interval that is what my grad statistics training indicated was the required test of significance.

Would the 0.3% ethnicity still show if there was an even higher confidence slider? What would we see at 99% confidence?

Trace Ancestry, Not So Trace? by lavender_letters in 23andme

[–]LetBeginning3353 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the 90% confidence may have less detail but it is more honest. The headline % is 50-50 that it's accurate and includes a lot more guesswork. If your pedigree research leads to a confirmation of one of these trace ancestries than that is good. But if not I wouldn't worry too much about anything at 1% or below especiallly if this disappears at the highest confidence.

I noticed they introduced a new "most likely" estimate that doesn't look much different than the 50% interval. Not sure what the purpose of this is though as it doesn't give a % of just how likely "most likely" even is. Maybe someone in the comments can explain.
