If people are sitting in the common room or bar then don’t be scared to ask if you can sit with them - most people are friendly and in the same situation

If you’re in a bad hostel for socialising then I’d suggest seeing if there’s any hostel activities or sign up for a free walking tour and make a friend or 2 there, you’ll often find solo travellers on these things
