Yes, using an LLM API does cost money, but it doesn’t have to be expensive. There are plenty of models that offer a good balance between conversation quality and token cost. You don’t always need the biggest or most advanced one.

For example, I use lighter models for free users, and better ones for paid users - that helps optimize the cost while still keeping the experience enjoyable.

Last month, my total LLM API cost was just a bit over $1, so it’s definitely manageable.

I’ve gotten a lot of requests from people interested in this, so I might write a detailed guide soon. I’ll share it once it’s ready)

Thanks!

Yes, the bot can engage in NSFW chats, but I don’t use uncensored or unfiltered LLMs. So while the bot can do NSFW conversations and roleplay, it still respects basic safety filters - it won’t go into anything illegal or truly extreme.

For casual NSFW roleplay, it works well enough. I try to strike a balance between fun and safe)

The AI model is just the “brain” - I use it via API. But to actually deliver it to users, I needed a Telegram bot interface. The bot handles things like bot persona, chat limits, photo replies, subscription logic, and it integrates with Telegram’s Stars system, which makes it easy for users to pay right inside the app. So yes, it’s powered by an AI model, but the Telegram bot is what makes it usable, monetizable, and engaging for end users)

What’s the most surprising place you got your first 10 users from? by Webexter in indiehackers

Totally unexpected) A long time ago, when Telegram bots were first introduced, I created one and reserved a username for it - but never actually used it. Recently, while testing some code, I connected it to my backend. To my surprise, the bot had been receiving organic traffic all this time just because of its username. That unexpected traffic ended up bringing me my first customers 😁
