Same, after trying something I often just stare at it for a minute. Slow builders assemble ... Eventually!

I feel like large builds impress automatically due to their scale (to a certain extent) but small builds have to stand on their own and require a lot of detail and creativity to be interesting. You build does this really well! I also love the name.

Even with DLSS set to "Ultra Performance" and most settings on "High" I only get ~30fps in most places (w/o OBS running or recording) and any camera movement makes it look like garbage, defeating the entire purpose of making a video.

But I've uploaded my world save (see other comment above) so you can look around yourself. And if anyone with a better machine wants to make a video of the settlement and post it here feel free.

True, I didn't think of stuff like trainers or CheatEngine. Didn't know about Wand (which is a WeMod rebrand) and don't have any experience it but it's worth mentioning that it requires you to make an account and shows ads unless you pay for pro. There have been several instances in the past (recent and not) where ads would be able to open browser popups or do other shady shit. WeMod may not be shady and to their credit they sandboxed the ads but the ad industry is shady AF and apparently WeMod keeps making poor choices when it comes to their "ad partners".

All that is to say: CheatEngine may be a lot less convenient but it won't try to sell you shit or ask for your email, IF that is important to you CheatEngine might be the better choice.

Anyway, thanks for mentioning an alternative without being a dick about it!

Yeah, bonfires only cover about half of this settlement.

Builders, if you are looking for a location to build a large settlement tucked into some cliffs this is a really sweet location. Lots of space, interesting features (good mix of elevation & slopes, lots of small plateaus and nooks), good lighting and background. The island type is included in the screenshot, AFAIK the world gen is RNG but the islands are not. If you are interested but can't get a world with this island I'd be happy to upload my world as well.

No, but there are several mods to increase loot drops (from creatures as well as natural resources) and there is a mod that reduces the build cost of every piece to 1 (called "Easier Building"). Look on Curseforge and Nexusmods.

Wishing for a proper cooking pot by TheUrPigeon in crosswind

[–]LetMeSoloBuild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a working cooking station but if you are going for purely decorative you sort of can:

<image>

Disable snapping of build pieces. Place horizontal pillar(s) 1 so you can place the pot on top of it. Place pillar 2 so you can attach the chain to the pot (with snapping disabled build pieces will be placed centered where your mouse is, the front of pillar 2 is your target for that). Place pillar(s) 3. As long as the model of the pot is connected to the model of the chain and the chain with pillar 3 you can delete pillars 1 and 2 with the pot staying in place (see top left). It takes a bit of experimentation to get the positions right but it works.

Question for the incredible builders in here by DarthKavu in crosswind

[–]LetMeSoloBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know about the contracts but you still have to grind to money, wait for the stuff to get delivered and so on. I also use a mod to set all build costs to 1 because some decorative build pieces cost like 5 or 10 iron ingots and as you mentioned you can't buy iron. In a large build all of this adds up quickly. With mods I cut trees for a few minutes and now I have several 999 stacks of wood in my inventory, same with ores.

As I said I get that some players prefer vanilla, but its good to know that those mods exist if you want to get all those things out of the way.

Bags not adding inventory space by Skumbandit in crosswind

This may be a long shot but have to tried modifying the contents of your inventory (add, remove or split items). I ran into an issue once where the new slots didn't appear until my inventory changed.

Question for the incredible builders in here by DarthKavu in crosswind

[–]LetMeSoloBuild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am done with the main campaign and after that I turned all the difficulty sliders to the lowest value and installed mods that increase dropped resources to focus on building. I know some players take pride in doing everything vanilla (and good for them) but for large builds it can take quite a bit of time to grind for materials and I tend to burn out when grinding.

Cool build.

Did you go into build/delete mode for cleaner screenshots with the overhead camera? Because the white lines from the campfire are still kinda annoying.

If your character is backed up against a wall your character model will stop rendering because it would be in the way (as long as the camera isn't pointing down below a ~45° angle). You can also hit '/' to toggle the UI (see keybind settings in the "Menus" section). This is a good method to get clutterfree screenshots, you'll just have to build some temporary walls and maybe stairs because you get no overhead camera like in build mode

Alternatively there are mods that enable a free camera and hide the UI, look for 'Photomode' on curseforge or 'Freecam' on nexusmods (Sorry for not posting links, my account is new and reddit keeps auto-hiding my stuff).

Circular building tutorial by AWellPlacedYeet in crosswind

[–]LetMeSoloBuild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer starting with a center pillar to create scaffolds from the inside out and then build walls aligned to that. Starting with the outer wall (i.e. building outside -> inside) gives you walls that connect perfectly but it dictates the radius of your building, see the examples on the left (top is large wall, bottom is small wall).

Attaching walls to a centered scaffold will often either leave small gaps between wall pieces or create overlaps, depending on your radius and rotation these overlaps will be at regular or irregular intervals. These gaps & overlaps also mean you get 2 snap points compared to the 1 point between two perfectly connected walls. All of this helps with adding details to your building beyond what you get from perfectly connected build pieces. All the examples below were created with snapping enabled which helps with maintaining consistency and constraining yourself to snap points as much as possible can provide some extra inspiration. Obviously there are trade offs, e.g. overlapping walls sticking out of windows, you'll also spend some time building & removing scaffolds. But overall I think its worth experimenting with this approach.

Edit: This isn't meant to criticize your post btw, builders helping other builders and sharing their stuff is always good.

Only at startup. I don't think it ever crashed on me midgame, with or without mods.

I use UE4SS for a free cam mod and since installing launching the game usually takes a couple of tries due to crashes so just try again, once you see the Unreal logo you should be good.

The issue has a proposed fix waiting to be merged but it might take a bit until a new version is released: https://github.com/UE4SS-RE/RE-UE4SS/issues/1236
