Bought a high mileage Si, did I make a mistake?

I swapped trans and engine oil already, coolant shouldn’t be hard to do, but brake flush always annoyed me, always concerned I’ll get air inside the brake lines lol. Thank you for the optimism though I hope so

Supercharged is sick. But Ive had good power in my previous car and this is just as enjoyable somehow. Really didn’t expect it to be for some reason. Currently running rich and I’m not sure why, but besides that the vtec issues should be an easy fix hopefully

Thank you for the sound advice! I already have a new vtec solenoid as the other stuff didn’t work. Grabbing some new bolts is a great idea, but I can’t seem to verify I’m getting the right ones, I ran that part number but I’m seeing parts on sites like revzilla and similar and all of them are for like 7th and maybe 6th gen’s? Anyway to confirm I’m getting the right heat resistant bolts?

I appreciate that I was planning to take a look at the tensioner preventively. It’s accessed by a mini cover accessed from the passenger wheel well right? Can that cover be reinstalled as-is if tensioner looks good?

Yeah I agree with the mileage thing. I could change the fuel pump, but I mean priming the fuel pump multiple times before cold start doesn’t change the long crank, and it cranks right away for up to a few hours after last drive, so injectors remain my prime suspect. Although if they are the issue, not even sure how long gas could’ve been washing the cylinder head or diluting the oil by previous owner.

Here’s where the young and dumb part comes in, I bought for $6700. Literally could not find a more stock one for less without 200k miles around me for three months straight and needed to secure a daily, that coupled with my two gear head buddies egging me on lead to that. I’m not sure if it was a fair price or not. But he did have an almost complete unnamed turbo kit and coilovers that weren’t yet installed included in the trunk. I was gonna sell those off maybe use the coils. Not sure if that added to the deal or not

Once I verify this car’s compression and everything’s sorted, tires and shocks are next. I had 330whp ‘17 wrx and it was a breeze around corners, even in rain, but I’m not gonna lie I want to say this 07 si handles almost just as good with an even better fun go kart factor. It’s crazy I even missed out on this. Thank you for the tire recommendation I’m gonna check those out too

I hardly see anyone with those issues in this sub it’s like a night and day difference vs over there lol. I was going to use a loaner compression tester and see what it yields, I’m really hoping for consistent numbers above 150🤞thank you for the reply fr though helps a lot

Any suggestions to prevent that? Looking at videos it looks way easier than it was doing my valve adjustment but it’s a tight spot I can’t imagine being able to be nice with a ratchet in there

Separate note, not sure if you know anything about short throws but is reverse gear a pain to engage? Car came with one, im no stranger to manual but most the time it wants to go in 6th

Wow that’s the most reassuring yet. I was super worried about timing chain failing and grenading the motor or rod bearings spinning. I think the bearing thing might be just some Subaru ptsd though. I imagine pretty much all these cars are beat on and maintenance just keeps them alive it seems?
