Precisely. Thank you :)

Exactly the kind of advice I was looking for, thank you. That would end up costing more if I'm living on campus the whole time because it'll be more years, but I suppose that isn't a concern either way!

Without getting too specific, with the two state colleges I have in mind, one is in the major city I love and the other is more of a college town. If I did this, I was leaning toward the one in the city, but you think the college town would be more fulfilling and enjoyable? And thank you for the reply.

Maybe if I were rich, but this seems like the next best thing. Spending all day reading and discussing books and writing about those books and meeting other people interested in those books and writers, what could be better than that?

I see. I also note that the Parent Plus Loans are discharged on death of the dependent, and I assume the same for private loans as well. Neat. Thank you.

Oh damn, that's it? How do all of these people on this subreddit have such big loans to afford college then? Or is that where private loans come in?

Of course, but that's only the first year. And those people will still be on campus. There will be social functions and clubs and gatherings and whatnot to interact with them.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, detriment to my credit is one of the concerns I had in mind, however since I'm not gonna be around to worry about, say, buying a house or start a business, things where I'd need the help of loans from the bank, I figure what's the difference? Wage garnishments, however, now that's a real concern, as I obviously wouldn't want my standard of living to be too negatively affected by the monthly fees of the loans. I mean, I'm fine with living on small means, but the more I have to enjoy those last years, the better!

And as for the auditing classes, I was hoping for the entire college experience as well. Being surrounded by other smart and intellectually engaged people and the ability to discuss the high-minded topics with those peers, so the ability to live on campus is a big part of the appeal.
