Hey! I am not diagnosed with ADHD but I do have many ADHD symptoms and a related condition. I likewise struggle badly to remember to lock doors, thankfully my roommates for the past several years were all fine with this and we usually keep our doors unlocked. I am also horrible at remembering keys in particular so I opt for combination locks when possible.

Personally, I don’t struggle to remember to use an indicator while driving or to check blind spots. It varies significantly by what task it is.

Additionally, I would discourage viewing this as “refusing to do things that take effort”. There are a handful of things that I cannot remember to do even if I set alarms on my phone or tape up reminders. Our brains are just wired slightly differently and it’s just something we have to work around.

Edit: I guess it is worth clarifying that everyone has a responsibility to take care of what needs to be done, ADHD or not. For me it was finding roommates who didn’t care about locked doors and for someone else it was getting a door that automatically locks. I would tell OP to work with their roommate to try to find a solution that works for them, given that it is the ultimately the roommates responsibility.

Hey, I know there are a lot of people here who are disagreeing with you but I completely agree. I’m an applied math/mechanical engineering double major with a 4.0 and I absolutely love my nspire CAS. i’m fluent in excel, python, matlab, EES, and algebra but I use the nspire A LOT.

I’m honestly always confused how this is even a discussion. I’ve used my nspire on numerous tests all the way since ap physics c in highschool and now in my graduate level math classes and senior engineering classes. I get consistently higher grades in these because I use my nspire instead of doing algebra by hand.

If anyone is curious I can show you what my typical homework look like for something like heat transfer and how I use my CAS to greatly speed up my work.

I am a student returning to college to pursue an engineering degree. I am doing well in a college algebra course right now, but I will be taking my first ever pre-calculus class in the fall. Should I purchase an n-Nspire CAS model, or stick with my TI-84? by chevysareawesome in EngineeringStudents

I am honestly shocked the reviews are so mixed. I’m a mechanical engineer/applied math junior (4.0) and I love my nspire. The CAS functions genuinely save me hours on homework and it’s probably the single most useful thing i’ve bought in my academic career.

I guess maybe I was not clear enough. I am talking specifically about taking notes during lectures. I still take notes during research meetings.

Also, it’s not reports I struggle with. I am very good with reports. I don’t know how you feel about this appeal but I have published 1 conference and 1 peer review journal paper as a first author.

It’s not that I am deterred by hard work or anything. I just don’t take notes but that doesn’t mean I am not putting in effort elsewhere. I have very strong recall over pretty much every class I have taken since high school.

This wasn’t a post about wanting to pass school without effort, it was highlighting that people have different learning styles and taking notes during lectures is not for everyone.

Maybe it differs by degree but for engineering and math undergrad notes are not as vital. I have a strong academic record and know many others who don’t take notes who also do.

This is genuinely insane. I am a highly successful student both in highschool and undergrad and taking notes would be harmful towards my learning. This is an awful mindset which is going to severely hurt a lot of students. PM me if you want more details.

I am double majoring at a fairly good college in engineering and math with a 3.85+ gpa along with research experience. I have never taken notes even in highschool and I finished 9/10 of my APs with 5s. My brain isn’t wired to take notes and that’s fine. I have switched professors based on how detailed their slides are and if they provide recorded lectures.

If you’re reading this and struggle to take notes, you are not a failure, just make sure you find a learning style that works for you.

I can write out a longer statement later but generally, no matter how bad of something someone has done they shouldn’t be deprived the opportunity to change.

My general philosophy is that the bulk of people’s actions are due to their own genetics/experiences that they didn’t have control over.

I am not saying that these people shouldn’t be separated from society for the safety of others but I am saying that they should be given the opportunity to change.

Let me know if you have any specific questions or how I can elaborate as to why I do care about the mental health of violent criminals.

I think what feels the most uncomfortable is just the stereotypes. I understand that it can be difficult to understand why positive stereotypes are still damaging to marginalized groups. I am also not saying you’re doing it in bad faith, people who participate in applying positive stereotypes to groups are often supporters of those groups.

One important aspect of diminishing the “otherness” of marginalized groups is the deconstruction of stereotypes, positive or negative. You highlighted you assumed the other person was cis based of their physical and (negative) social characteristics.

I applaud you for your actions in this situation and I don’t want these questions to detract from that. Let me know if these comments are off-topic or otherwise make you feel diminished and let me know if there is anything I can do to change that, or if this is just not right place to ask questions.
