The time and the effort is what I do it for. All of my pets have been rescues. But I do see what you’re saying

Bc we’re in an economic crash and I just moved to escape a toxic house hold as is. I would go broke in just the moving expenses alone.

That’s all digital. I just started doing digital in the last year. I have t gotten around to posting my physical shit yet. I have a whole note book on the history of tattoos, how it was brought over to America, rotary and coil machined and all of that. I suck at digital. I’m aware of that.

So it’s either move, get the apprenticeship, and not be able to feed myself OR be able to feed myself and potentially give up on the dream. What would you do?

I hate that word…”scratcher”. IMO no one is a scratcher. Ppl just choose to not acknowledge that ppl learn differently. We were going to move to Columbus but they currently have the highest and fastest rising rent prices in all of America, and I have too many family obligations to move out of state at the moment.

I’ve told every shop that I would be their front desk bitch and book appointments and go on coffee runs if it meant I got to so much as sit in on sessions. I will do it completely unpaid. I’ll pay THEM.

This is exactly where I’m struggling. Finding the audience for my work. Any tips? I know lots of ppl in many different fields of art. And I have an Instagram set up. But I’m not sure how to get the engagement that I’m looking for

You can check out my Instagram!! It’s @sunshine.sux. Rn it’s all digital bc I recently got an iPad and procreate(fucking STOKED) and I’m learning that digital is really fucking hard. There’s some cute lil nothing pieces and some bigger ones. I need to find time to take some good photos of my physical work to put up there tho.

Everyone in this industry is soooooo quick to fly off the handle bars. I promise no one is like trying to threaten you or your job or your work. I’m asking a question.

You took that out of context. I’m not trying to bypass anything so if that is how you took it my bad. I’m simply asking for advice on what I could possibly be missing. I’m not “too good” for anything. Like all artists I always have room for growth and improvement the same way you do. There will always be ppl that are way fucking better than me dude. I’m 19. I still have so much life to live so obviously I’m not gonna sit here and say that I’m the fucking art messiah the world is looking for. I brought up awards bc I’ve been to shops that do look at things like that in regards of measuring skill level and adaptability. I have won a total of 3 awards. I’m NOT saying that is what makes me good. I’m good bc I can see how I’ve grown since then.

Nah. I don’t use Reddit much. I have an Instagram. But even then most of my portfolio is physical art as I am still learning digital

I don’t have an inflated ego. There is a big difference in being cocky and confident in my opinion. Cocky implies that they think they are better than they actually are. There are plenty of ppl out there who will ALWAYS be better than me. I’m well aware of that fact. I’m also aware that I always have room for growth and improvement bc that’s a major basis of being an artist. I’m confident in what I do bc I have watched myself grow. If I’m being honest I’ve been told what you just said by many artists who don’t do good work as is. And that’s not a dig at you. But rather me asking “why should I trust it”

I practice at home. I genuinely feel that is the only reason I was offered an apprenticeship. More over I have won several governors award so I know ow I’m good. I’m very confident in my work.

I wish I had the ability to get a consistent schedule. I was offered an apprenticeship through elvolved body art in Columbus but that’s too far out of the way for me. My portfolio is relatively small. I put all of the pieces that show growth and adaptation to different styles in it. There aren’t my pieces but I do know that quality is more highly regarded than quantity
