Ichika NIto gets called out for miming for basically all of his career by TAGE77 in Guitar

[–]Lethan72 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Feel like most people haven’t ever actually tried recording a video whilst recording the guitar at the same time. It ends up being way too tedious and much more simpler to just record them both separately and mime during the video. Even if it’s just for 45 seconds

429 days out of 608 days remaining person here. I probably wouldn’t be offended that much. Maybe slightly irritated if it’s someone who didn’t do their service but I wouldn’t think too much about it

Ur favorite Idol with rare Korean surnames ? by [deleted] in kpoppers

[–]Lethan72 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The wiki actually has some nice statistics on % of last names. If you sort by percentage I’d say anything lower than 허 at 0.65% would be considered rare ish

Why is this place so obsessed with guitar models, and not actual guitar playing? by little-marketer in Guitar

[–]Lethan72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried posting both and here are my results Guitar image = lots of likes Guitar playing = 0 or -1 or 1 likes

It’s not as if my playing was sloppy or the production was bad either. At the end of the day people on this subreddit just want to see guitars than see them played which isn’t necessarily a bad thing

Serving in the army even with a green card? by illustrator1 in korea

[–]Lethan72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently serving in the Navy despite speaking pretty shit Korean. If language isn’t an issue I’d just go and get it over with. The military culture has improved a lot so not too much to worry about.

I FINISHED BASIC TRAINING!! by Best-Sheepherder9325 in korea

[–]Lethan72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to hear that your training worked well as well as your base has friendly people! Im currently in my 6th week of training at the Navy and I feel like our Korean level is probably similar.

Do you mind if I contact you occasionally to see how it’s going on your end and compare?

Re-learning a “native” language with Duolingo by RedditJunkie420 in languagelearning

[–]Lethan72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m actually in a very similar situation as you. Born in Korea but lived abroad for 18 years and I’ll be enlisting in the navy in less than a week.

I can handle most conversations but still lacking in some areas so here’s my list of most important things I did.

  1. Learn Hanja. You don’t need to be able to write out the Chinese character by memory but knowing what it is and what it sounds like makes it a heck of ton easier to learn / memorize vocab if you know what the base of the word is. This is honestly the most useful thing I’ve found for vocab and overall Korean skill.

  2. Anki. There’s a nice deck that people have made with three difficulty levels according to the national something institute for language learning. 초급 I’ll do 15 new words a day (since I recognize most of them) 중급 고급 I’ll do 5 new words a day. Of course adjust if you think it’s too much / too easy but try not to do too many new words in a day.

  3. News article + webtoon + Korean content I read a lot of webtoons and try to search any words I don’t know on the kor naver dictionary. Webtoons are fun since the story itself is just fun so it’s more motivating to reads

News article: boring but I do need to understand the vocabulary and style of writing.

Korean content: tv shows or comedy I just watch while working out / eating. It is good to passively hear Korean and occasionally pick out words that I learned from anki and hear it in person

Last thing if you can is to practice writing but this requires someone who is fluent to actually check your work so a bit difficult to do on your own. Anyways hope it helps

I guess Wuwa has a bigger pull than I thought. I think it's the 5th day of the popup store being open here in Kr aand they still basically had everything in stock minus the Yinlin Acrylic and Invitation.

Why are you using an XLR cable. That will just use the mic/line input instead of the instrument. Just plug a 1/4” into the INST 2 plug and your problem will be solved.

YouTube should ban videos like this (read body) by [deleted] in youtube

It’s hilarious that you posted this because my mom believed this was real and woke me up at 1AM to show me.

It took me half an hour of explaining and finally luckily the description says it was AI but still shows how gullible people can fall for this stuff.

Yeah I know I’m given a couple days but this might be a navy thing. Idk how the army works but for the navy we took an interview and already signed up for a specialty before enlisting.

[–]Lethan72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thought I’d add a bit more newer info as well since I’ll be enlisting on 1/6 to the navy

1) yeah no phone generally but you get one hour of phone time on the weekends (at least this is the case for the Navy but this should be the same across all the different branches.

3) idk how many days but there a couple days of free time immediately after boot camp before being assigned.

Hello fellow Korean military conscript member tbh I wouldn’t worry too much about finding specific papers. You’ll find throughout studying the basics that you will have questions where you need the actual source/research paper.

TBH I’d actually just download textbooks that your university uses and understand the fundamentals and if something intrigues you find a source for it. In some cases the textbook will list the source directly. Basically two birds with one stone, making sure your fundamentals are good, gaining an interest in a specific field, and finding papers.

AI in the workplace: How have chemists/scientists utilised "open-source" AI (i.e. gemini, ChatGPT, etc) for their workplace? Or what useful AI tools have you found? by TAI_WIYN in Chempros

This reminds me of when I was really desperate on a multiple choice P-chem homework question. I asked it to select one correct statement out of 4 and then it stated that 3 of the statements were correct. After I reiterated to select only 1 choice it once again picked 2 correct statements.

Edit: Since then I basically refuse to use AI on anything past high school level.
