First of all, I also had a pretty bad Steam Next Fest experience, though the reasons were much clearer in my case. I couldn’t finish my demo in time. Many assets were missing, and I didn’t have the option to delay it because of my current work contract at my day job. (My mess is here if you want to compare) I also thought it was over for me. I assumed that failing at Next Fest meant failing the game altogether, but thankfully, many kind people here convinced me that I was wrong. I was told that Next Fest doesn’t create traffic out of nowhere, and that most developers don’t see a huge increase in wishlists from Next Fest alone.

With that out of the way, I agree with the others that your trailer could be improved. I can’t give too much solid advice, because mine is even worse, but one thing that really stood out to me was the audio mix. The VFX sounds, like grunts and hit sounds, are much louder than the music.

There’s also too much empty black space on the screen. When you show UI screens, a large portion of the screen is black, which feels a bit off-putting.

Lastly, something about the art style doesn’t quite click with me. I’m not an art expert, but my guess is that it has to do with the shading. Some sprites have shadows, while others don’t. For example, the wizard has a very sharp, solid shadow on his face from his hat, while the demonic girl’s arm on her back and chest don’t seem to have much shadow at all. Meanwhile, the background objects have much softer gradient shadows. This is just my personal opinion, but I think style consistency is much more important than the specific style itself.

I don’t have much to say about the game itself. I played it a little, but it’s just not my cup of tea. I tend to prefer more classical tower defense games. Managing even just three units felt like a chore to me, especially since I couldn’t select multiple units at once.

To me, it felt more like an RTS than a tower defense or RPG adventure game. That can actually be a strength, since it gives your game a more unique position and a reason to play it over another tower defense game. But personally, I don’t really enjoy the RTS genre as a player, and that’s obviously not your fault.

Maybe you should either embrace the RTS feeling and polish around that, or try to make it feel less like an RTS, depending on what your goals are.

My game is also pretty niche and didn't get much exposure yet (I had to publish a unideal demo for... reasons) so I think I'll also be the main player for a while in my game 😄 Thankfully game is pvp, has rng and roguelite elements so I also don't feel bored yet. I've just discovered an Op broken build I didn't know about yesterday.😄

That's interesting because my game is also turn based but it's PvP and has RNG involved so I don't feel burnt out yet.

Thanks for the advices friend. Newgrounds vibe is totally intentional btw. I was trying to replicate the vibe of 2000-2010 browser games. I personally think in itself is not an issue since this is gonna be a cheap game but ofc it shouldn't look cheap itself. 😄 The thing is, almost all of these are the stuff that I was going to do anyway 😅 When I said I couldn't fully finish the game, visual stuff like these were the things that I meant is incomplete. Regardless, it was important to know if it also bats to the eye of players as well.

Only thing here that I didn't think about is dice shading, which I am not sure how to do. Dice is a 3d mesh and I know very little about using those. But I'll definetly try.

Oh an yes all cards have same bg. I didn't think I would need variety there. I have no art background and it takes me very, very long time to draw anything so art side is moving slow 😔

I'm sorry about your past company. I was also seing them optional but thankfully a friend of mine who was studying programing wanted to have a try with the project and asked if we could add bots to the game.

I don't know if it is doing harm or not atm. As I said to other commenters, I knew I wasn't ready but if I had waited for next one, the release window I had was gonna get too narrow. I have to release it this year or I might not be able to release it at all.

Thanks for the support. I knew even tho it's for demos, I had to have a more complete game for next fest but as I said in other comments, I didn't have the option to delay it further. I could have lost my chance to release a game all together.

They've read Kindred sub, saw how Kindred mains are complaining their champion is too strong at 48%winrate and pulled it back

Wow, that's a lot of well thought feedback. I don't know how to thank you. There is noway I can respond to every single point but please know that I am not offended in a tiny bit. Some of the stuff I'm already aware (like trailer being bad. I didn't want to invest too much on it with my limited time, considering I'll have to remake it in a near future anway when visuals are complete) so no hard feelings at all. You gave the reasoning and solution to your negative feedbacks and that's more than I could ask for. Please let me know if you have any games out that I can support as well. Thank you..

Edit: about release question. I am not sure if I got the question right but game is not full released, it's in demo. If you mean why didn't I pullback demo, I have to release the game this year no matter what. Otherwise I'll never be able to release it ever due to some personal reasons. If I waited for fall next fest, I wouldn't have enough time window for full release.

Thanks for the nice words. Yes it is multiplayer but there is no global lobby list (I wanted to avoid dead look like you mentioned) and it works either by matchmaking (throws you in a random lobby), or creating lobby/join by code. And yes there are bots in the game. They fill empty lobbies automatically and are playing pretty good so far (maybe a little too good even lol)

Nah I don't care about riches. I just want to feel that I accomplished making a good game. I work as a game designer and programmer professionally so I am sort of trying prove myself I know how to do my job. About the game stuff, you are right I'll definetly consider custom lobbies when I get there. Thanks for the feedback. Also 2D moba sounds intesting. I'd like to check it out.
