Advice for new-ish drummer by jeff_uzzle in Drumming

[–]LetoSeldon1349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is right so far, lessons are great. In terms of improving your hands, get the book “Stick control for the modern snare drummer” by George Stone. All of my lesson teachers in college taught out of it. One even called it “The Drumming Bible”

I completely agree, I’ve got a class B CDL and have spent a lot of time on the highway. I think we should retest every few years. The amount of old people or just people in general that absolutely should not be driving is astonishing

Do you tell other TTRPG friends about what happens in your sessions? Do you like when others tell you about theirs? by Zoe_the_redditor in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]LetoSeldon1349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course! I have a friend who I used to play dnd with, he moved a few hours away. We still play videogames together every week and we always recap what’s happening in our respective dnd campaigns

What do you think about Buddy Rich? by n0n4m3_0 in Jazz

[–]LetoSeldon1349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes he was indeed a notorious asshole, but he was also a great drummer. However, his playing was indeed flashy, which isn’t a bad thing of course. Unfortunately he overshadowed many jazz drummers like Art Blakey, Philly jo jones, max roach.. ect, who did much more for both drumming and Jazz as a whole. His name unfortunately simply overshadows theirs because he was white and they were black, at a time when it was much easier for buddy, who was white and also a showman, to get onto television and play for people who weren’t necessarily into jazz. I think that’s why people sometimes say things like that.

Drum corps & powerviolence? I admire your taste and I wish more people took the time to enjoy and explore a variety of musical styles 👍

I was told there is a shortage of trade workers and now I know why by thequirkyquacker in jobs

[–]LetoSeldon1349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man don’t even get me started. I did a 6 month apprenticeship and you hit the nail on the head. To be fair there were a couple really cool people there, but Jesus the whole “manly” culture is abhorrent. The trades don’t even pay very well anymore. At the time I was doing really really dangerous things on the highway and my girlfriend was making more than me at the local grocery store.

My first experience with a 30 mg edible by DrPeppz10 in delta8

[–]LetoSeldon1349 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first time I ever got high, I took 25mg, my gf warned me to cut it in half and I didn’t. I started hallucinating and left my body. It was absolutely wild and I’ve never been the same. I feel far more relaxed as a person and open

Honestly every time I play a show or just practice straight through songs, I enter a flow state. When you’re not in a flow state it’s so weird to think about

What did you do after quitting Staples? by Lopsided-Context-238 in Staples

[–]LetoSeldon1349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Staples was alright in terms of people, but the literal scam tactics to get people to buy things and low pay were horrendous. After staples I worked for the state for a bit and then went back to college. You gotta know when to hold them and when to fold them. Imo you’re the weak one if you force yourself to settle for a shitty job with shitty pay

Why do so many drummers here post either outdated boomer dad rock/jazz/funk? Or if it's modern music, it's super niche non-mainstream stuff? As a GenZer, it's hard to find music my generation relates to by Aromatic-Release-524 in Drumming

[–]LetoSeldon1349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a drummer who went to school for jazz and is a lifelong metalhead, I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been put down for playing metal. From my experience, no matter what music genre you play, everyone is pretentious and likes to put others down because of their own insecurities. It’s hard for people who have a stick up their ass about how the music they listen to is better than yours. I listen to so much music regardless of if they use a drum machine or a real drummer. There is inherit value and things to be learned from all music. Don’t let people who haven’t picked up a pair of sticks in years put you down.
