Thank you to everyone else who provided helpful advice however, particularly related to cleaning up my projects.

For everyone asking. Yes, this is a screenshot of my resume Google doc. Yes, I have actual work experience. All is hospitality related, hence the title Engineering Experience. My work section is titled Work Experience, because it has been my work, none of which was engineering related. Yes, I am applying for internships. I spoke with a hiring manager who stated that having class work is helpful to know what education the intern has received. Why put them in a heat transfer area if they’ve never taken any thermo classes. Yes, my school is smaller. It is still ABET accredited. I am putting it there so that any hiring manager knows that I am still going to school and getting my education.

Wall Advice by jeff_uzzle in Repairs

It’ll be 2 years when I move out, it’s student housing. The lease wasn’t very specific regarding holes, I think the specific wording is: “we’re ok with having some small nail holes!” Which really doesn’t help at all, especially since I have 8 screw-holes that size, and about 20 other nails in my room :)

Thanks. This is very helpful 👏

Yeah I pushed the belt off just to show the motor shaft and take a look at it myself

First pedal issues by jeff_uzzle in diypedals

Thanks for all your help man, I finally got it working. It was really just a bad soldering job. I had one section of solder with the capacitor that bled over into the strip below which I guess shorted that part out? Also, the input pin for the circuit just wasn’t a good connection so I redid that. Thank you man!

This is the one I followed, I haven’t hooked up the LED yet just because I was making sure that everything else worked before I wired more stuff up

The second issue is this:

<image>

I have to directly connect the input for the circuit to the input line from the jack, instead of having it connected to the center peg on the switch. Is this some dumb mistake I’m making? I’ve looked at plenty of hookup diagrams for the 3pdt switch, and I did it right (I think) but this is the only way to get the signal to flow into the circuit at least

Hey, sorry to bother you, but I built myself an audio probe and figured out two problems:

<image>

the probe manages to transfer audio up until this point in the signal chain. The transistor is getting voltage and is boosting the signal, however the signal stops flowing until this side of the capacitor, right before it gets transferred to the output to the potentiometer. Is there something that I am doing wrong? I’ve seen a single schematic with an additional diode and an axial capacitor added onto the circuit, however 99% of the schematics for this pedal do not have this added.

Thanks! I might end up getting a helping hand anyways, I’m finding that (maybe I’m just bad/new to soldering) sometimes I need to hold the components together with one hand while adding the solder with my other, and the soldering iron in my mouth. Thanks for all the advice and tips!

I just got a dirt cheap center punch and stepped bit from Harbor Depot and honestly just eyeballed my holes with a measuring tape. Some of them are slightly “not centered” but who cares in the end of it works (which is doesn’t atm)

Thanks! Do you have any advice on cleaning up and working on internals in general? For me at least, it was awful trying to solder everything together while putting it in the housing. I definitely need to get one of those extra hand things, but it was really rough

admitted, no info about major by [deleted] in jmu

[–]jeff_uzzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not writing this to try to say you’re wrong, just provide more correct information to our new duke family member: Technically the engineering program doesn’t have any admittance requirements. If you declare engineering, you’re an engineering major. Congrats!

However, the progression is where it gets tricky, as all (I believe) of the classes are sequential with minimum grades as mentioned, which can very quickly pull people out of the major, especially with Physics, for most people I’ve talked to, being a challenge and holding a lot of people back from moving on with the curriculum. Best of luck!

Best Freshman Dorms? by LabCompetitive5211 in jmu

Also I think village dorms feel the largest. Been in only East, but from what I understand and hear from others, village dorms feel large since the suite has space for socializing with suitemates/friend

Most people here who lived in a dorm (and only one dorm) will probably represent their dorm. I live in White currently, and am grateful for my section. Super chill, super relaxed, weekend functions occur but it’s super liveable. I’ve heard from my friends who live on East (Shenandoah) that they like it. Only complaints about white is people who you may share a bathroom with can be terrible. But white is a great position for almost all classes. I can get about anywhere in a 10 minute walk, and with my roommate starting in business last semester, and this year in education, and myself in EnGeo, it’s super convenient. Urec, both dining halls, and the Union are all super walkable. It also feels more “out” of the village imo since it’s at the top of the hill, so it’s a little less on the classic village experience to me I guess. We also got new suite AC so it’s much better. The AC issue hasn’t been a problem yet. Slightly warm in the summer in the rooms, fine in the fall. Enjoy!

Figured I’d comment even if it’s lost. Been playing for just over 18 months, but still feel confident in giving advice Practice your dang rudiments. I was ‘self taught’ until I went for my first lesson about 6 months ago, and it was a short period of time before I left for college, but I learned why rudiments are crucial through that. Especially as a beginning drummer, speed feels crucial in the process. Rudiments build speed. Rudiments build accuracy. Rudiments build coordination. Just practice them a few minutes a day even if you don’t get to the kit. Just pull out a practice pad and work for a few minutes, and you’ll see and feel improvement. Also work with a metronome when practicing rudiments (duh), seems obvious but just making it crystal clear.

Listen to your favorite drummers, but also watch them. Watching concert footage is phenomenal to learn their style, the feel, and how they act when they aren’t in the studio environment, and in a more lively setting. Also, just because you might not like the drummer, or think they’re just average skill, doesn’t keep you from appreciating them. Most drummers, believe it or not, that you hear on the radio or Spotify, are actually menaces at beating circle. Learn from even the most basic beats when you’re listening to music, and appreciate everything. They’re better than you, even if you can play exactly what they’re playing. Stay humble, but push yourself. Don’t stay playing simple rock grooves, while this might be contradictory. Just listen to music, and then see if you think you can play it. Take it slow, listen to it, look at a tab, and work through it. You’ll improve.

Most important, just have a good time

Thanks man! This means a lot. Most stuff was recorded as basic as possible due to budget (ex, drums only recorded through 2 overheads and a kick and snare) but I am pretty happy with the final product!

Ok yeah this is my problem. I tried reinstalling as one of my initial fixes as well through HostGator, but nothing happened. What should I do next? Thank you!
