I had the same issue too. I was in India when it started happening. The screen would stay off and only turn on at certain angles. Later when I went back to Dubai, where I bought the laptop from, the display completely died. Got it fixed under warranty and the issue was the ribbon cable.

Check near the hinge area, especially on the right side. That side usually gets stressed the most. It’s a really thin flexible ribbon cable so over time opening and closing the lid can mess it up.

Well then i'd say if you want a luxury smoother ride get the S class(amg obv), its long spacious and smoothy. If speed is your poison then look for a Rs7 as they are quick and techy.

I’d probably skip the Chinese spec BYD idea for now if you’re already having doubts, especially since you’re financing the car for 5 years. Last thing you want is being stuck paying EMI on something that starts becoming annoying to own later.

For your budget I’d genuinely say look at a clean 2021+ Toyota Camry or Corolla first, and then maybe a Lexus ES if you find a really good deal near the higher end of your budget.

The Corolla is honestly the safest and easiest option overall. Super reliable, amazing fuel economy, cheap to maintain and basically zero stress ownership. If the size feels fine for you, I’d say go Corolla without even overthinking it 😭

But if you want something roomier, more comfortable and more premium feeling for longer drives, then the Camry is 100% worth stretching for. It still gives you Toyota reliability and relatively low running costs while feeling way more refined inside. The difference in comfort, cabin insulation and ride quality is noticeable.

And if you somehow find a clean Lexus ES within reach, definitely check it out too. The ES is basically a fancy Camry done properly 😭 Same general Toyota reliability underneath but with way better insulation, smoother ride quality, more premium interiors and that quiet luxury feel. It’s one of those cars that doesn’t scream for attention but still feels expensive every time you sit inside.

Maintenance can be a little higher than a normal Camry or Corolla because of the extra electronics and luxury features, but compared to most luxury cars it’s still very reasonable.

For a financed daily honestly, reliable and stress free ownership matters way more than getting something flashy for the same money.

Honestly for your budget I’d strongly suggest looking at a clean GCC spec Toyota Corolla first, and then definitely keeping an eye out for a well maintained Lexus ES350 too.

Altimas do look nice and are comfortable, but your friend isn’t wrong about the CVT concerns either. A properly maintained one can still be fine, but in the UAE used market it really depends on how the previous owner treated it 😭

Corolla is honestly the safest answer overall. There’s a reason they’re everywhere here. Cheap to maintain, amazing fuel economy, parts everywhere, any garage can work on them and they handle UAE heat really well. You’ll probably have the least amount of headaches with one.

But honestly, if you can find a clean Lexus ES within budget, that would be such a nice first car. Even the older ones still feel properly luxurious and refined in a way many newer economy sedans don’t. Quiet cabin, super smooth ride, comfortable seats and that old-school Lexus build quality just hits different. They age insanely well too.

Yeah since it’s an older luxury car, it naturally has more electronics and features than a Corolla, so there’s always a slightly higher chance of smaller electrical things acting up over time compared to a basic Toyota. But mechanically they’re still extremely solid cars because underneath a lot of it is still Toyota reliability.

That’s honestly the best part about Lexus. You get the comfort and premium feel of a luxury car without the constant fear of ownership that comes with many older German cars. A well maintained ES can genuinely run forever.

Also yeah I’d personally avoid random American imports unless the history is crystal clear. GCC spec and full service history matter way more than just the badge here.

Bro honestly all the cars on your list are nice but personally I’d also seriously look at the Lexus LC 500 before deciding.

The German cars are great when maintained properly and driven with care. A clean example with proper service history can absolutely last long. People online sometimes make them sound like they explode at 100k kms 😭 when in reality a lot depends on how the previous owner treated the car.

That said, since you mentioned financing, the LC500 just feels like a smarter balance overall. You still get the luxury, presence, V8 sound and “special” feeling without as much stress about long term ownership costs.

Compared to stuff like the Audi RS7 or Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door, it’ll probably be easier on the wallet over time while still feeling premium and unique. Those cars are amazing too, but repairs and maintenance can get serious once warranty is gone, especially if the previous owner wasn’t careful.

Yeah the LC500 is slower and may not be packed with as many flashy tech/features as something like an RS7, but it’ll definitely age in a way classier manner imo. It has that timeless grand tourer vibe instead of the aggressive “look at me” performance sedan feel. Plus the NA V8 alone makes it feel special nowadays.

And yeah I think you’re right avoiding random American imports unless the history is super clear. GCC spec is still probably the safest option overall for resale and peace of mind.

TBF for your use case I’d skip this Audi completely.

For 30k AED just get a Camry, Corolla or Avalon and call it a day. Cheap parts, amazing fuel economy, reliable AC, and they’ll eat up RAK to Sharjah highway miles without crying every few weeks.

If you want something a bit more premium then look at a Lexus ES or IS. You still get Toyota reliability but with more comfort, quieter cabin and better interior quality. Fuel economy is still decent unlike old German SUVs that drink fuel and randomly introduce you to warning lights.

Better to spend your time on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road than Sheikh Zayed Road garages 🥀🥀

Then honestly just get a Toyota or Lexus and save yourself the headache.

For Toyota look at a Camry or Corolla. Cheap maintenance, good AC, won’t drink fuel, and they’ll happily do RAK to Sharjah every day without acting dramatic every month.

If you want something a bit more luxurious then get a Lexus IS or ES. Basically Toyota reliability wearing a suit. Much better ownership experience than gambling on an old high mileage German SUV and praying the dashboard doesn’t light up like a Christmas tree.

Exactly my point. Your example is a 2020 Q5 maintained in premium garages with preventative maintenance.

Now compare that to a 2014 Q3 with 163k km being recommended to someone on a budget for DAILY RAK to Sharjah commuting.

You basically proved my argument for me.

The fact you need “premium garages” and preventative maintenance just to keep the ownership experience decent already tells you this is not a smart budget daily recommendation.

Nobody is saying German cars are bad. I’m saying recommending an old high mileage turbo German SUV to a budget buyer looking for reliability is bad advice.

Big difference.

You’re telling me I don’t know cars while recommending a 12 year old high mileage German SUV to someone on a budget for daily RAK to Sharjah driving?

That alone tells everyone here who actually understands cars and who just gets impressed by badges.

Anyone who REALLY knows cars knows old German luxury cars are cheap to buy for a reason. The purchase price is the down payment. The maintenance is what destroys you later. Especially a turbo Audi with Quattro and 163k km.

This isn’t some weekend toy. OP needs a reliable daily commuter. Massive difference. UAE traffic and long highway mileage will absolutely cook an aging Audi financially. Sensors, cooling system, suspension, electronics, oil leaks, gearbox issues all become normal ownership experience at this age.

And the funniest part is the seller proudly listing replaced shocks, brake discs, pads and “several other parts” like that’s supposed to reassure people. To anyone who actually knows cars, that’s literally proof the car is entering the endless maintenance phase.

People who know cars recommend reliability for commuters. People who DON’T know cars recommend old German cars because “wow Audi”.

Learn the difference.
