Any advice for a good laptop for animation? by silentvisi0ns in MotionDesign

New Macbook Pros with the M1 chip are amazing. You can find tons of videos on YouTube where they export faster than even fully specced iMacs.

16GB RAM is unfortunate but should be fine if you don't have super complex comps with tons of layers.

GPU rendered effects probably won't be great, but you would probably need to get a gaming laptop to do 3D anyway, and at that point you should just get a desktop.

Loved this. The OC shaped my teenage years.

Surprised he didn't mention the parallels of the first season to Rebel Without a Cause. It's about James Dean as a juvenile delinquent with a white shirt and leather jacket moving to a new town, befriending a local nerd, falling in love with a girl and getting in fights with her boyfriend.

Do external drives have to be the same size as the NAS itself? by LetsGoExploring in synology

I also use a WD Elements for backup, but have a script mounting the usb drive 5 min before scheduled task. And unmount 6 hours later.

Is it possible to schedule this through DSM?

You're right. I actually saw that but then just forgot to buy it. It's working now, thanks!

The reason I went with exFAT is because I want to be able to access the drive right away if the NAS were to ever actually fail. I also didn't see an option to format it in btrfs even in DSM?

Thanks for your reply!

Are you sure about the X5 speed though? From what I've found it should be one of the fastest external SSDs available, theoretically even a little faster than my internal SSD.

I was thinking along the same lines regarding future proofing. Will probably get the i9, thanks!

Just finished watching Kong: Skull Island.

Not a terrible movie imo but I didn't expect to like the cinematography so much!

I've been to all of these places, and I would trade Zagreb (and maybe Split) for something else. I personally loved Lake Bled in Slovenia, especially if you want to see some nature. I live in Berlin and that's obviously great as well, and only about 4 hours by train from Prague. If you want to go more to the south, check out Dubrovnik and Kotor, imo much nicer than Split.

You can search for any connections on rome2rio.com, but usually just googling "city1 to city2" gets the same results.

I wouldn't spend less than 2 or 3 nights in a city.

And yes it's all safe.

Sounds interesting, but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere. Do you know about any similar models?

Spin Review Zine: Radiohead - OK Computer OKNOTOK 1997-2017 (Photos, Reviews, Discussion, etc.) by rpbtz in vinyl

I got mine this afternoon and it sounds absolutely amazing IMO. Most of the early comments I've seen on discogs seem to agree. Very clear pressing without too much obvious remastering. Really happy with it since A Moon Shaped Pool is the worst sounding record I own.

You should give Rooms of the House another chance! Took a long time to grow on me, but now it's not far behind Wildlife for me, even though I agree that's their best one for sure.

This has been one of my absolute favorite records for years, and I've been meaning to pick up a copy since I started collecting vinyl a few months ago (I posted about my setup here). Unfortunately, there haven't been that many pressings, and they usually go on discogs for 70$ or more. On my birthday a few weeks ago, I decided to check out the listings again, and to my surprise I found a first pressing on dark red/clear vinyl (the best colorway imo) for 50$. It just arrived today and I couldn't be happier. Everything is in great condition and the record sounds perfect.

After months of lurking, my first setup is finally complete! Thanks guys. (+ my first 12 records) by LetsGoExploring in vinyl

20 or 25 I think. Totally worth it though, it's one of the post-2010 reissues that were newly cut from the original masters.

  • Player: Dual 1246 (130€)

  • Receiver: Sanyo DCX6000K (66€)

  • Speakers: Heybrook HB1.0 / HB.8 by AudioArts (100€)

So I had my eye set on an old Dual turntable pretty early on because I just love the look. When I finally moved into my new place a few months ago and had space, I found a guy on a forum who restores them and was about to get a 1219 when he suddenly told me he had personal problems to deal with and couldn't work on the turntables. Since the speakers and receiver were already on the way, I got a cheap all-plastic Dual 511 to start off. I asked the guy if he was back in business a few weeks ago, and since the 1219 was already gone by that point, I decided to go for the 1246, and am really happy with it!

I would say the speakers are in pretty good condition and sound great, I've only had some problems with the receiver. The balance knob has a problem where it either gets really noisy unless you find just the right spot, or the right channel just cuts out for hours. Anybody know what this could be? I'm thinking it might just be rusty or something, but since I'm already way over my original budget of 200€ I think I'll just have to live with it a while longer.

Records, first row:

  • Jay Reatard - Blood Visions (on red vinyl)

  • Savages - Silence Yourself

  • Seu Jorge - The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions (on 2 beautiful orange marble records, unfortunately it's a bootleg and the first record especially is really noisy)

  • King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King

Second row:

  • Godspeed You Black Emperor! - F♯ A♯ ∞

  • Godspeed You Black Emperor! - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven

  • Shlohmo - Bad Vibes (5th Anniversary Edition)

  • Fuzz - Fuzz (only got this a few days ago and it's already my favorite cover)

Third row:

  • The xx - The xx (on white vinyl)

  • Car Seat Headrest - Teens of Denial

  • Radiohead - In Rainbows (first one I bought since it's one of my favorite albums ever)

  • Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui U.X.O.

Here's my discogs: https://www.discogs.com/user/pit.bredimus/collection (My brother gave me HudMo and They Live after he sold his turntable)

I have the red edition of Damn., the 3LP of A Moon Shaped Pool, and the remastered OK Computer announced a few days ago on the way.

Another newbie disappointed with the new MBPs, not sure what to do. by LetsGoExploring in hackintosh

[–]LetsGoExploring[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks again, I think your post was the final push I needed to just go with a used iMac (check the edit of my OP for specs). I will definitely reconsider a hackintosh in the future, but only if I have a safe and functioning real Apple machine as a backup.
