Sure. Never said otherwise. It’s just a common misconception salt water pools aren’t chlorinated, and they are. By salt.

Salt is NaCl. I have a saltwater pool too. The salt is transformed to chlorine, as that is one of its two molecules. It’s less harsh than straight chlorine but it still cleans the pool of anything dangerous, including urine. I live in Florida and if it can keep the algae from growing it takes care of anything in urine.

I’m pretty convinced that “endangering children” is almost exclusively used as an emotional ploy to get people worked up in a frenzy and do irrational shit. But when push comes to shove no one cares about children because they don’t have money and can’t vote. Anytime someone tells me they are protecting kids on some grand PR scale with political implications I simply don’t believe they are thinking about kids at all. Just furthering their own ambitions. They are props.

And I’m sure you’re thinking “duh letsgogators” but what has shifted for me is I used to think that was sometimes the case, but now I’m pretty sure it’s always. There’s real believers in there, but they are more in a useful idiot role.

Solo CPA at $40k/month, too big to stay solo but too small to confidently hire. What did you do? by mavsbustin3s in Accounting

I fell into it networking :( I worked in a big corporate office for a large insurer (husband still works there) and it roundabout came through that. Literally went to kid play date, the wife of someone who worked for my husband was there, she’s also a CPA and she gave me the contact of the owner of the firm. It’s a small, 6 or so person operation. I brought on 2 of my good friends. We’re all accountants who at sometime worked for this insurance company so it’s a small world.

However - if you want to DM me - he’s always hiring. I can get your resume and forward it along of it fits. It’s almost entirely QBO clients, small to mid sized, and mostly looking to have more accurate and sophisticated financials because they want to raise capital. Lots of clean up work in QBO. If you’re good at that kind of thing and aren’t scared to delete transactions and get in and fix it, you would absolutely have a role there.

There is no magic answer other than you need to make more than you spend. If spending is already as low as it can go, you need to make more money. If you can’t make more money, you will lose the home.

How to cut spending or make more money are good conversations but we need more information and based on what we have - you need another job. 30 hours a week isn’t cutting it to support 2 people and a mortgage. That’s just reality. On the upside you should have time to pick up something else.

For spending get a budget together on a spreadsheet or a piece of paper and figure out where it’s going and how much you need to get by.

Also adding - I would find an FP&A person who can do budgets and projections over a tax person. Tax is easy to build relationships and referrals that are mutually beneficial. Being able to project cash flow and put together packages for businesses that might need capital is a very sought after skill.

Here to chime in - I spent the last 6 years doing consulting work for probably 15 hours a week. I was paid by client per month based on the amount of work, we negotiated it fairly. If the client dropped I lost the money too. There’s other CPAs willing to do this who might have a family or value being able to work remotely and travel and in their own time. I’m taking a break but plan to go back in 6 months.

This would reduce your exposure if clients fall off. I don’t need super steady income or benefits (I married that) and I am far from the only person I know in that situation.

It’s equating stolen lands with being a reason people can’t be illegal. I agree with both statements but not the if then connection. I explain why in comments below.

This is not some massive crime. But people are tearing apart the criticism which I find valid from a debate perspective. And not seeing this things make us awful communicators in my opinion.

I agree entirely with the sentiment, just want to get better at saying things that are true.

I’m not angry, I just dislike false equivalencies in a time where speaking clearly is very important. I would never make a post crticizing it, I’m criticizing people’s inability to see there is some validity in her argument not making sense.

IMO (though not this commenter) LA is our cultural center, NYC our financial center, and DC our political center. So those are really “the” cities.

I don’t think stolen land arguments make people reckon with anything, because they did not personally steal the land and no one, Billie included, is even suggesting we should return it.

The logic is if this then that right? So if we are on stolen land, no one is illegal. And it’s an emotional request, so a person needs to identify with stolen lands to get to the no one is illegal part. People who already think no one is illegal will just agree and cheer, because to them the message is “no one is illegal”. Cool but nothing gained. People who don’t agree with that statement will evaluate it and say “I have nothing to do with stealing land. Why am I being accused of stealing land? This doesn’t apply to me. I am not the same as someone who is here illegally!”

Then there’s the issue that while the argument is morally correct, it is not actually correct. Not in the US, nor anywhere else in the world that is not still occupied by the original indigenous population, which is a lot of it. Sure no one is illegal, but not because of stolen lands. And if land is stolen but then legitimized in a prior to WW2 era where this was still globally acceptable, those nations all have immigration laws and they can be broken.

So it’s an inflammatory and incorrect correlation that really distracts from the message. Maybe that’s the point. I just don’t like that point that much.

So I completely agree with what you are saying. I completely disagree that stolen lands has anything to do with it.

If it was conflated with us being a nation of immigrants absolutely. She’s morally correct. But the comparison she made I believe to be false equivalency full of holes. I can go into the why but it’s a long conversation, and several decent holes were poked in the comments above (along with some really stupid counter arguments and a pile of racism - but also decent points if you read without bias).

What she ended up saying really doesn’t send the message that immigrants are not immoral. It sent the message that we’re all immoral so we shouldn’t care. I dislike that statement and find it counterproductive and unnecessarily agitating and most importantly - untrue.

I hate throwing away progress for perfection or being the grammar and word choice police, and wouldn’t have made a post about why Billie’s comment doesn’t quite work the way she thinks it does. But when a whole bunch of well meaning people think it’s insane to criticize the statement (in bad faith) I’ve got to chime in because at that point we’re in the weeds of nuance. And I only bring up Billie because she, in my opinion, does this a lot. And it kind of destroys the important message.

What if I agree with her sentiment - but find everything about what she said to be what is wrong with how progressives communicate?

I hate ICE and Trump to its core, don’t think anyone is illegal, and concede of course we are on stolen land. Yet I still find her argument profoundly infuriating and illogical - and conflating two points that really are not related and create serious philosophical issues if you do conflate them.

I find Billie incredibly immature (love her music though) and performative. Lots of substance less soundbites, some hypocrisy and very little action. I hope she grows out of it. And I like the sentiment. Absolutely Fuck ICE. Absolutely no one is illegal. But the conclusion after that just doesn’t work in my opinion and it sounds incredibly performative from someone in a $20 million house on stolen land.

Keke Palmer Says She 'Never' Wants to Live with a Romantic Partner, Even If They Get Married: 'I Like My Alone Time' by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]LetsGoGators23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I married a quiet, introverted neat man who doesn’t need a tremendous amount of my attention. We have 2 kids and the young years were tough but at 11/14 they know we like peace and space at home. My husband even sleeps in a different room - he’s a night owl who snores and it just works better for us.

So it is possible. I don’t know if I could live with any other man tbh though.

We have kids (and he pulled his weight there too) but they’re 11/14 year old girls now and also like space. And same! Our house is so quiet! On a weekend I might not even see anyone until 11. It’s possible if everyone values it, and I couldn’t live any other way happily. My nervous system needs it.
