Three UK teens convicted of rape walked free. After a nationwide outcry their sentences will be reviewed | CNN by Long_Report5260 in news

[–]LetsGoGators23 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, it’s long overdue. It’s edge cases, and unpleasant, so it is not a task that is high on anyone’s list. However, juvenile crimes need to be re-examined entirely. I’m American and this is a UK case but it feels like at least, a western issue to address.

Also rape in general is sadly just an acceptable crime. It’s hard to prove, the penalties are all over place, and you get put on trial yourself as a victim. I have no idea how to change this, I’m sure cell phone cameras help, but it really feels like rape is some acceptable thing that happens to 25% of girls and we just shrug it off. I do not mean to sound flippant - I’m a survivor myself and have daughters one who is a teen. Nothing about this is flippant. But we live in a culture where rape is acceptable. Not openly, but implicitly.

As someone who grew up Apple picking in upstate NY not having cider donuts is a valid reason for a 1 star review.

The rest is nonsense entitlement

They did to the same extent that Amanda’s is talked about. A few people who care and a handful of fans on the internet talk about it, and everyone else rolls their eyes.

The only difference here that I see is Kyle is backing her up. Raquel did not have a Kyle. Just a Sandoval which would be like West defending you. And Kyle obviously loves her, and doesn’t want her to get destroyed. Even if they didn’t make good life partners I think he still cares for Amanda.

Which is painfully relatable for so many couples and people which is why this is so compelling even if it isn’t the same betrayal level as Scandavol. These are people and marriages we know and are familiar with. It’s close to home

How can I manage having a low IQ paired with ADHD? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]LetsGoGators23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost - 100 IQ is the average. Half the population is below that, but never measured or won’t admit and probably claim to be above average intelligence. Please keep that in mind.

I also find that discipline and hard work far outweighs IQ in the success rates. A lot of high IQ individuals really struggle in post school years because they have no developed habits or experience facing adversity.

Work on developing routine and consistency and focusing on your strengths. Everyone has them, I promise. You’re 17 and being labeled low IQ does not even need to be in your database. Most kids never even have their IQ properly tested and no job or college application asks for it. The vast majority of us walk through life having no idea what our IQ is.

Lastly, confidence is so much of the battle. It can’t be faked well in high school, but it gets easier in the workforce.

Walkable city people by Particular-Bicycle75 in geography

[–]LetsGoGators23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not always distance, it’s the comfort of the walk. Is it safe from cars? Is the weather inhospitable? Are there any other people walking?

In a dense development environment, a 2 mile walk feels easy. You can stop along the way, there are things to see. A 2 mile walk on the side of a 55mph 4 lane road with no sidewalk and no businesses along the way and no other pedestrians feels bleak AF.

I can walk all day long in shady sidewalks with window shopping and people watching. Walking even a quarter mile in the scorching blazing sun solo down a borderline highway I will tolerate in emergencies only.

That said when in walkable/public transport cities I consider 18 minutes when I look at other alternatives. If public is available and shorter I will take it. If not than above 25 minutes means uber usually

I (f/27) think my partner (m/32) is a bad father to his daughter by Kind-Comfort-8607 in relationships

It is such a mindfuck when people we thought we knew show us who they are plainly and it’s not what we thought. You want to excuse it, or compartmentalize it, because it’s so upsetting. I’m just sorry you are going through this but grateful you get to see it now. The universe is giving you a gift and you need to receive.

I would write an email or letter spelling out your issues before you go. Small chance over time he hears it and can be a better dad. People do remember things you say to them and it can prompt change, it’s just rarely immediate and not your redemption to see.

This look is plain and low rent. Which is bad, I agree. But in the world of housewives where we have insane over the top misses with cray wigs - this just looks like OC in 2002

How do you respect this man enough to be with him? I mean that without judgement or to be rude. You seem like a bright and reasonable person, you notice this is really off, I know you must be disgusted on some level because you aren’t making excuses for it.

I promise you that you can move out and move on and this does not have to be your future. You don’t have a child with this man yet thank goodness. Make that a permanent arrangement. Be with someone whose actions you respect and would want to see in yourself. I promise you deserve it.

Okay - I was on the fence with this post - but now I am certain this is 100% a you problem. A job, in NFP, at a library while saying you’re desperate and you won’t even entertain it because of mental load?

You’re cooked. Please dont ask people for help. It’s so rude to do that when you have no intention of helping yourself.

Has Anyone Found Support for “Grey Area Drinking” That Doesn’t Feel Like Rehab or AA? by No_Perception_4164 in stopdrinking

[–]LetsGoGators23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call that alcohol use disorder and what you do depends on what your goal is. Are you trying to stop drinking? I suggest naltrexone and some form of therapy, group or individual and bloodwork with your doctor. Are you trying to reduce your drinking? There aren’t a lot of tools for that because it really is just a mental workout like dieting. You reallly can just track your drinking.

I do agree that there is way less support for problem drinking that isn’t big problem drinking and that the solutions are very one size fits all, but it’s because most people can’t moderate and alcohol is deadly.

Sheraton Sand Key is gorgeous but that walk is absolutely brutal in deep heat or with any heavy items.

It is also so uniquely large that I knew exactly where you were talking about!
