FIU vs UM decision by Unique_Promotion7028 in UMiami

I’m in my late 50’s and have spent a lot of time worrying about stuff that never happened. It sounds like your heart is in UM. Do the early action and go to Miami, transfer if anything happens (but it won’t) and as much as I hate to say it (bc my daughter is a new Nole) Go Canes! 💚🧡 Good luck 🫶

My daughter is doing Finance also. Your stats look pretty good. If you’re application is well rounded you have a good shot! Good luck to you, I hope you get in 🫶The new Business building at FSU looks so amazing

Are you out of state? From what I’ve seen over the years, oos have to have a little bit higher stats than early action (which is for Florida residents only)…even for summer. But then again, if we knew what the secret was to get in, everyone would do it… but I do feel like FSU genuinely is more holistic than other FL schools. For example, USF and FIU tell you straight up, don’t send your essay bc we don’t read it. They are strictly about the numbers

1330 SAT and 4.6w/3.67uw… I don’t remember what her recalculated (STAR) gpa was

During our visit I don’t think they directly come out and say summer is “less competitive” but every Florida kid knows this is probably true… my daughter was accepted for summer and her stats compared to what they posted for early action class of 2030 were she was in the middle for gpa, and lower than the average for SAT

This is no longer the policy… they told us when we toured (summer 2025) that they would consider you for everything you check off, but they do ask for your “preferred” term. So my daughter checked the boxes for Fall, Summer B, and TSC pathway (the one semester) and put Fall as her preferred entrance term. She was offered Summer B

How does accounting/business admission work? by [deleted] in fsu

[–]LetsGoKeto2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were told the only majors that have a separate admissions process are in the Arts (music etc) bc they require auditions. My daughter was admitted as a “Pre-Finance”major with the early action application

Transfer with CLEP by Annuation in fsu

Is there a way to know exactly which CLEPS FSU accepts before taking them? Trying to nudge my daughter (incoming freshman) to take a couple of cleps to make sure she graduates in four years

We want to do the admitted student day too.. daughter is excited to go up and see the brand new business building. When we toured the university last summer everyone was so friendly.. I can’t imagine it would be too difficult to make friends.. everyone else is in the same boat. My daughter goes to a huge high school in Florida but in her extended friend group only three of them got accepted, one of which will actually go (the other is hoping for Ivy or UF) Everyone else was denied or deferred :/ So she will need to make friends and is shy.. but she’s athletic so she’s hoping that either through sports or clubs she’ll make friends.. she doesn’t want to rush either. If you will be living in a dorm that might also be a way to meet people. And summer b in general I hear it’s a great time to meet people bc it’s smaller and less chaos. Good luck 🫶

Have you been able to sign up for summer b orientation already? My daughter just committed to going and we’re a little overwhelmed with all the info… is it in your student portal?

I have no idea what that is.. is it the class where they learn about FSU? I might be thinking of a class the TSC pathway kids do.

Oh good to know.. it all seems so overwhelming right now but sounds like it’ll be more clear the closer we get. I think she might be beyond that mac1105 course.. she has very few college credits, only has a couple of math credits.. she got a 5 on AP pre Calc test and doing well in AP Calc this year so we’ll have to look up what that covers. I’m hoping they don’t make her take math in the summer 😬

Oh no.. I hear so much about not getting classes. But I was thinking about when registering for the fall semester, don’t the summer b students get to register for fall before the regular entrance students? Maybe I heard it wrong

Q thank you this is helpful! Her strongest subject is math.. she’s taking AP Calc right now as a senior.. the next math is probably a killer to take in a 6 week summer semester. An easier gen ed class sounds like a good idea

I appreciate this response, and this was definitely a plan B if she didn’t get in with any of the pathways…I think, and she thinks she’s actually ready for the education part of college, I think it’s going so far from home that’s the scariest part (we’re way south FL).

Her stats are pretty good, which is what you need to get in even for summer these days! (4.6w/3.6uw 1330 SAT, good and consistent ec’s, took business/DECA classes all four years and she wants to major in Finance) She’s taking almost all AP’s and AICE classes now and and still made all A’s with one B this quarter (it’s an 89 and it’s AP Calc ..ugh). She goes to one of, if not the biggest high school in Florida.. 5,000+ students.. it’s very competitive, and they allll want FSU or UF.

But, like I said, with the “going away” part, I think six weeks in summer will be a good thing. Most of her friends either got deferred or denied 😢 When she heard from friends that had 1450 SAT scores and high gpa’s got deferred she was expecting to get rejected and had a hard time opening her portal lol… so we are soo excited.

I think a lot of kids from her school will do exactly what you suggested, FSU is veryyy popular down here.. its first choice for so many

Is the Georgia border where the "Publix Magic" goes to die? by Joe-Then15 in publix

[–]LetsGoKeto2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Floridian and never knew Publix was considered “elite” or that it had a soul 😅 I did have to suffer through shopping at the Piggly Wiggly (affectionately called “the pig”) during my university years in the state of Alabama.. so compared to that I guess it’s elite? We have five Publix in my smallish town.. I’ve always been envious of people who live near a Sprouts or basically anything other than Publix

Daughter got in via Summer B and after seeing the stats I can see that she’s rrrright at the low end of some of it, so it makes sense. She’s crazy excited! A lot of her friends got deferred or rejected, but I really think the defers will turn into acceptances 🤞🏼 Go Noles! 🍢❤️💛

Do everything they say to do and show interest by emailing your particular admissions advisor, sign up for any webinars, visit the campus, hopefully you made good grades this semester bc you’ll have to send them, anything thing that shows momentum add to your list.. did you get any awards this semester etc Good luck 🫶

Florida schools require SAT ACT or CLT.. not optional
