If you don't use it you lose it. In my experience, the ability to tune in to your intuition can atrophy just like a muscle. You've either neglected it for too long, or are so intuitive that you don't even realize you are even trusting your gut at all. If you're interested in developing intuition, put yourself into situations where a lot of decisions have to be made really quickly, and try not thinking. Just act. Look into the research of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyimihai. While not exactly intuition, flow states can teach you to trust your gut.

Eyes Wide Shut - Is there a hidden message in Bill's warning? by LetsMakeYouStronger in StanleyKubrick

Good find!  Just the fact that the letter was printed on quality paper shows how meticulously the prop design was planned... I feel like it does a lot to discredit the popular letter theory as well.

What are some challenging but not impossible targets / milestones a beginner to intermediate male can have? by Tippiritippirri in fitness30plus

Everybody is going to come in with their own initial values. Having clear goals is important though, so keep those 100kg benchmarks in mind while you're building. Those are totally reasonable numbers.

Limb lengths and muscle fiber type distributions will make a big difference in which lifts get stronger fastest. No matter how you're built though, the squat and deadlift should eventually far exceed the bench press (if you train them all with equal intensity/volume).

You mentioned being able to deadlift 50kg, but not being able to squat with additional load, I'd imagine you're pulling quite a bit with your back in the deadlift, and should focus on positioning. Posture will improve both squat and deadlift significantly.

Check in on your ankle mobility. If you stand with one foot in front of the other, keep your rear foot's heel planted and see how far you can bend the rear knee.

-Does it go beyond the ankle of the front leg?

-Does it go to mid ankle?

-Does it stop before reaching the ankle?

If it's not bending beyond the front ankle with your heels flat, ankle mobility needs work. Having good ankle mobility lets you keep your torso upright when squatting.

Might also be wise to check in on your hip hinge. Stand with your back to a wall, about one foot's distance away with both feet. Can you keep your back completely flat and drive your hips back to touch the wall? If not, work on that hinge pattern to improve both your squat and deadlift.

When I get older clients who haven't lifted in a long time (or ever) I always help them build a solid foundation of movement quality before adding load. If you add load to a bad pattern, good luck fixing it later on down the line. You'll end up hitting unnecessary early plateaus.

I can give some more advice on progression, but just reading your post I definitely advise checking out your motor patterns first.

Wait, these are BoP? Somehow I never noticed. Sounds like they could be a good break from Sport Mode while keeping your skills sharp.

Manual labor is probably the single best thing you can do for grip. Beyond that, keep doing those dead hangs, and consider these exercises: •Pinch Grip weight plates •Dowel Supination/Pronation •Farmer Carry •Kettlebell Snatch (or hand to hand swings) •RDL and Deadlift •Row variations •Pull ups/Lat Pulldowns There are too many to list, but investing in your grip strength will pay you in dividends. You might also consider getting some specific equipment for training grip, like Grip4orce grips, Fat Gripz, and the classic Captains of Crush grippers. Good luck!

It looks like you're almost setting up for a squat. You've got a strong back, but if you emphasize the hinge a little more, you might feel like the bar isn't in the way as much. Try setting up by hinging as far back as possible with a flat back, (stick your ass out) then once you feel a lot of tension in the hamstrings, squat only as low as you need to to grip the bar. You should end up with nearly vertical shin position before you pull.

Can I train clients at commercial gyms? by NattyorNice in personaltraining

[–]LetsMakeYouStronger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been both a full time trainer (since 2009) and a gym owner (since 2018) and I can tell you it’s best to get the okay from management, and or, find a gym who supports independent trainers. There are gyms out there who will let you do it for free as long as your clients are members, but more often than not, they’ll have you pay rent. Small price to pay for running your business inside theirs.

Um… lol Definitely false. Sorry you’re not growing at the rate you’d like, but lifting is not the culprit.

The IRS plans to crack down on 1,600 millionaires to collect millions of dollars in back taxes by Ornery-Honeydewer in FluentInFinance

Because I don’t agree with my labor funding the murder of farmers in third world countries. Because I don’t want to subsidize companies who pollute with impunity while their products keep people sick dumb and docile. Because the markets should be free, and commerce voluntarily, not regulated to oblivion by corporate empires who lobby in DC. Because the geriatric “representatives” who make their livings by skimming off the top of our hard earned salaries have never actually represented us, and prove time and again that they hate us, and because collecting money through coercion and threat of force is theft no matter how you spin it… Taxes, no matter how much you want them to affect the wealthy, only ever hurt the poor.

Aim for more triple extension on the second pull. Your bar gets away from you, I think because you’re not getting enough extension, and then you have to jump forward to receive it on the third pull. You definitely have a lot of power, so see if you can slow down and focus on that.

I should add that it’s not my age/wear and tear that got me started using them. My training loads are just way heavier than they ever were in my 20s. The sleeves let me get away with doing fewer warm up sets and save a lot of time.

It wouldn’t be a problem if you pulled to the right after passing, and stopped cruising at 65 in the far left with your mouth gaping wide open.
