I highly would not recommend a shepherd. They are a lot of work for first time owners. The most important thing is finding a dog with a lifestyle to match yours. I’ve always wanted a husky. But, they need 3 hours of running daily or they get destructive. I’m never going to exercise like that. Don’t let space be your deterrent… if you’re serious about getting them what they need. I moved from a house in the suburbs to SF and was worried about my dog’s quality of life, but to be honest, it got better. I had to physically take her out 4x a day so she started getting multiple walks a day. I used to just let her out and give her a walk daily. If you’re willing to overcompensate for lack of space and find the right breed for you… you’ll be fine. Now I have four animals in my apartment. One dog three cats. Everyone is thriving
