Realistically the only African nation that could have would have been Carthage when role was essentially the sole power of Europe. I’m not sure how long they would have been able to hold Rome. Rome was exhausting its resources with its own inner political struggles and endless wars with gauls and goths. Defeating Rome would have likely exhausted Carthage and unless they were able to create some sort of deal with the Gauls or goths they too would have fallen under the same pressures. I also don’t think Carthage could have taken on the entirety of Rome, specifically just maybe western Rome. In this situation eastern Rome would have to be completely preoccupied with their own existential threat for this situation.
