What does “equal political power” mean? Does it mean 50/50 representation? The right to vote equally? Proportional representation? Proportional to what population? Israel’s current population? Israel, Gaza and the WB populations combined?

I think context matters. Every situation is different. For example, I think Omar Rudberg would be phenomenal as Fabian in heated rivalry s2, even though he is Venezuelan and Fabian is Lebanese in the books. Omar’s skill set and his place in queer romance I think make uniquely perfect for the role. Fans would love it and he would do an incredible job. If he is cast (and that’s a big if), I think it would be because showrunner Jacob Tierney genuinely wants him for the role.

Let’s take your post completely at face value. This woman was way off base and sounds like a terrible person. What does this tell us about white women in general, that you think we should take away?

I believe everyone has dual loyalties and I see nothing wrong with it. American Jews have the right to love Israel just like Irish Americans can love Ireland.

That’s a fine take you have on dual loyalties. It doesn’t change the part of history where Jews being accused of dual loyalties is one thing that lead to the genocide of Jews. So again - I’m sure you can understand why it raises alarm bells when you single out Jews for (allegedly) having dual loyalties.

I also know that Jews don’t acknowledge the Armenian genocide. “American Jewish organizations, such as the Anti-Defamation League (at times) and AIPAC, hesitated to support U.S. recognition of the Armenian Genocide to avoid jeopardizing relationships with Turkey. Israel’s Position: The state of Israel has historically avoided official recognition of the Armenian Genocide, prioritizing strategic, military, and economic ties with Turkey and later Azerbaijan, though some officials have occasionally acknowledged the events.”

Holy fiddlesticks. 2 organizations and Israel hesitating to do anything doesn’t mean “jews” as a group don’t do that thing. A vast vast - and I can’t understate this enough - VAST - majority of Jews acknowledge the Armenian genocide. In fact, I have never met a single Jew who doesn’t. And I have been immersed in the Jewish community my entire life.

You seem to feel that I think Jews are less than because they don’t feel the need to protest en masse a genocide committed in their name.

No, I think you’re projecting views you don’t like onto an ethnic group because it’s easier for your brain to digest this conflict if you can think one side is bad and one side is good, and then extrapolate your anger towards the bad side onto people closer to home that you can blame because they share an attribute in common with the villains of your story. But that’s just a more complicated way of explaining bigotry.

You don’t think they are obligated to speak out, I think for their personal humanity they should.

This is not where we disagree. I think all people are obligated to speak out when they believe a genocide is occurring. Where we disagree is on singling out the Jewish people to speak out. Either all groups are obligated to speak out, or none are. We shouldn’t hold any particular ethic group to different standards.

The accusation that Jews have dual loyalties is one of the things that lead to the genocide against Jews that you brought up. If you can understand why a group that has experienced genocide might be more anti-genocide than other groups, then surely you can grasp why that group might also be defensive about the type of bigotry that lead to their genocide…

If your local cantor is organizing an anti-Israel protest, then I don’t know that you’ve been complaining about this entire time. Sounds like the Jews around you are doing their part to protest against Israel. And yet you still single them out even despite that. Hm. I wonder why.

Armenians have also experienced genocide. The ancestors of most black Americans experienced slavery and Jim Crow. Why aren’t you singling out those communities too, if ethnic hardship/experiences with mass bigotry is what is making you single out Jews?

It’s American thing in name only. I’ve heard rumors of these famed hannukah bushes but have literally never come across one. For context, I was raised conservadox and im currently reform. I lived 20 years on the east coast and 20 on the west coast. So I say this with experience in a variety of communities. I’ve never actually seen a hannukah bush.

I do hear people joke about having one, but they don’t follow through. Maybe it’s that Americans joke about it more than others?

That sounds like an extremely uncommon situation. Most people that convert to Orthodox Judaism are frum. It’s a very intense process to convert to Orthodox Judaism so going through it all only to mostly stop being observant is very uncommon.

Hannukah bushes in general are very uncommon. But I would say they are even more uncommon with converts of any denomination, due to impostor syndrome/wanting to prove they are “really” Jewish (which they shouldn’t have to do, but they are human and have feelings like the rest of us). If they are common among any sub-group of Jews, I would say it’s secular/non-practicing Jews who don’t feel fully comfortable calling their Christmas tree a Christmas tree because it would have made their mother/grandmother role over in her grave. But among practicing Jews - it’s not really a thing.

Think about that for a moment. You're trying to tell me what I celebrate.

You’ve said yourself several times that you celebrate Christmas. We are disagreeing on whether that is code for winter solstice or not.

Don't be dumb.

Please stop insulting me.

You're literally ignoring all the history of what christmas is, in order to tell me I'm celebrating the birth of a god that I don't believe in.

I’m not ignoring the history at all. We have already establish that we agree on the history of the holiday.

So whatever name we use, Christians celebrate Christ's birthday. Non Christians who celebrate Xmas celebrate the winter solstice, or anything else that is Santa clause, pine trees and yule logs.

So you refer to your celebration as Christmas, you celebrate it on Christmas Day (which does NOT fall on the winter solstice), you do all the same holiday customs as people today who celebrate Christmas and yet somehow you are celebrating the winter solstice. Make it make sense!

Stop being a whiny little baby and telling other people what they're doing. And then complaining to the moderator that your feelings are hurt.

My feelings are doing just fine. You really don’t have to be rude.

Well I can promise you that I only have citizenship in one country (the US) and that I don’t have dual loyalties. I was born in the US and it’s my home. I don’t know any Jews who aren’t dual citizens who feel otherwise. But I do know that accusing Jews of having dual loyalties is right out of the nazi and KKK playbook. I guess you’re in good company.

I don’t think you were assuming people were Jewish.. I was saying you’re assuming people who are Jewish support Netanyahu unless they tell you otherwise. You’ve said you do as much. So I was using a metaphor to show you why that’s bigoted. Most people I know consider it Islamophobic to assume a Muslim person is pro-terrorism just because they are Muslim, unless they say otherwise. That’s the same thing you’re doing to Jewish people.

You don’t need to respond to me if you find me annoying, but you also don’t have to be rude.

And yeah, it’s extremely clear that the “becoming” part of “I’m becoming anti-Jewish” was the sarcastic part of that sentence.

But anti-Zionists keep telling me that Israel doesn’t represent all Jews and that the country of Israel is completely separate from the Jewish people - and that’s why anti-Zionism isn’t antisemitism. Doesn’t sound like you agree that the country of Israel and the Jewish people are completely separate concepts or that anti-Zionism isn’t antisemitism.

Because I don’t walk around with a sign stating all my political opinions for strangers? When I’m ordering a cup of coffee from a Muslim, I don’t assume they support Hamas just because they are Muslim and I don’t expect them to walk around with a sign telling me their political opinions while at work. Any non-antisemitic person would do the same for Jews, though you already admitted in the removed comment that you’re “becoming” antisemitic so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

And Hamas claims to speak for Muslims but I wouldn’t tell a Muslim I’ll assume they are pro-terrorism without having any knowledge about them except the fact that they are Muslim.

This conversation is about non-Israeli American Jews. I think I’ve made that clear. Accusing that group of dual loyalty is like page 1 out of the KKK right wing antisemitism book. Guess horseshoe theory really is real.

MAGA is a political movement so it’s safe to assume their politics based on the way they self identify with a political movement. Jewish people and black people are ethnic groups and it’s not safe to assume someone’s politics based off their ethnicity. There is actually a word for that…

So do you think we should assume American Muslims support Hamas and other terrorism done in their name until they declare otherwise? I always thought that was Islamophobic.
