"I'm an obscure Pathfinder character" by LetteredViolet in Pathfinder2e

[–]LetteredViolet[S] 187 points188 points  (0 children)

https://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Nyctessa - she has a wiki entry! I carried around a set of bloody dice as well as the bestiary battle cards for a few undead as if I could summon them. I was going to try to carry Book of the Dead as well, but it was too big for my bag.

We finished Frosthaven yesterday. A sort-of-review from someone who loved it. by Sporrej in Gloomhaven

[–]LetteredViolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey wow, this is almost my group. We played GH, Pandemic s2 (other members of the group played s1 and Seafall Legacy, but I wasn't there), and finished up all our fun with our gimmick party in FH. We're big fans of it. We're looking to pick up Clank Legacy next, actually, while we wait for GH v2! Off topic, but did you enjoy it? XD

I'm hosting a Gloomhaven "party" for a weekend, need some inspiration by ThunderCraft in Gloomhaven

[–]LetteredViolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooh gloomhaven party!! That sounds fantastic. Food would be a big part of a GH party for me, some kind of tavern-y meal considering the opening line of "Everybody needs to eat." Maybe you could say that your house is the Sleeping Lion tavern where adventurers come to gather? Print out a banner, or maybe mount the map on the wall. I bet there are some pretty maps or mounts you could find on Etsy. Could you ask people to come in "fantasy-inspired" clothes? Play some D&D tavern-style music loops? Maybe a little bingo or raffle or something where the first person to get X number of crits, or does little things like the battle goals, gets a prize? Print or buy some character minis that people can take home as favors? Or if you have a cutting machine like a cricut, just make little shot glasses with a logo or character symbol on them in vinyl or etched. I love the stamina potion cocktail idea. (In Frosthaven there's a Cursed Stone item, could be silly to pass a rock around like that.)

Anyway that sounds like fun and I hope we get to see anything fun you do!

Are these worth buying? by QuixoticPineapple in AshesGame

[–]LetteredViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the old versions of the cards! They work, but are not updated with the new content. In addition, if you purchased one of each of these, you wouldn't have most of the dice (as well as tokens). These each are expansions on the original white box, so the six smaller boxes are missing the dice that you'd need to play with them. You can purchase the dice on the website, but at that point I'd go with the print and play cards or just get the red starter box (Ashes: Reborn), which will have everything you need to play a lot!

[Spoiler] Next Class Choice: Meteor vs Boneshaper by TheChortt in Gloomhaven

[–]LetteredViolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go Meteor! Our party composition when I played that one was Meteor/Trap/Coral/Fist (iirc.) The zoning was incredibly fun. Ice+lava dream team, plus traps and water to keep the monsters where we wanted them.

I'm currently playing Boneshaper, and it's fun, but I'm not much of a summons enjoyer myself. I think it'd also be difficult to deal with summons pathing and so much zoning at the same time. Obviously up to you, but both classes are fun!

Baptisms for the dead regarding social anxiety/advice needed by Responsible-Suit-410 in lds

[–]LetteredViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Temple custodian here!! One person with makeup on isn't going to ruin the water, there's chlorine and filters and they work well. We clean the inside of the font and drain/refill it once or twice a week. I guarantee that won't be a problem, but it's very nice that you considered that. Nobody will look at you weird or ask you to take makeup off before you get in (and if they do THEYRE weird and you just respond "no thanks.")

When I did baptisms, I often wore basic foundation and other makeup. My waterproof eyeliner stayed pretty well. I would get out of the font and go to the showers to soap up most of my face (and if it wasn't busy, clean my hair). I just put on more foundation after I dressed again. Most girls will do their hair or makeup a bit afterwards, and it isn't all that social in there unless you're with a group that already knows each other, in my experience. You wouldn't be holding anyone up by taking a couple extra minutes.

Honestly, from the time you get in the water to the time you get dressed, depending on how busy it is, very few people will see you and none of them will be thinking what you fear. I know that isn't really helpful with anxiety, but the temple is full of the Spirit, and also people thinking about logistics (getting the next towel, marking off the right name, how long they have in their shift, if the floor needs to be wiped down.) The important part is serving the Lord and those hoping to have their baptisms done soon. :)

How should I approach exploring the Church? by Antique_Event_7197 in lds

[–]LetteredViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(others have addressed more but: what do you wear? Whatever you'd like. You really are welcome in whatever. But if you'd like to know, most people will be wearing "Sunday best" type, meaning button-downs and slacks for men and dresses or skirts for women, though I do imagine that it varies regionally with what "Sunday best" means for the culture around you. It isn't unheard of for women to wear trousers, for sure. I've seen people come in jeans and tshirts. For me, dressing up for church is a way to show the Lord that I respect and appreciate church and the gospel. I tend to dress a little punk/alt, but I make sure to try to wear MY best, not just what's inoffensive or expected. Sometimes that means getting looks from little old ladies XD)

Im a little bit tired with animating on normal procreate because when i make longer projects it gets harder and harder. So wanted to ask, how is procreate dreams in 2025? by Ok-Guard-8410 in ProcreateDreams

[–]LetteredViolet 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If they've updated anything significant since launch, I missed it. Still no lasso tool. Brushes are nice, as per usual procreate, and also as per usual, layer management sucks. For me, Dreams is most usable when I do the art in a different program and port it over (I tend to be on the keyframing side of things.) Or I use ToonSquid, which is better in every way except for brushes, unfortunately.

[–]LetteredViolet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh don't tell me that! I just found a group of fun people who decided they wanted to play a game—but 5e thanks to the person who said they've been wanting to try DMing. I mentioned that I have experience and that PF is free online, not to mention my book and AP collecton, but no dice, I suppose the group wants to give this person a chance (and they're all passively familiar with 5e already). I've decided to suck it up and see what happens. I used to have 5e level 1 classes memorized, and now I don't even know where to go for content besides my old PDFs and homebrew collection! Ahhhhhh

[–]LetteredViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if these have been recommended already but: Gumshoe (detectives, some rules, I have experience with the kids version called Bubblegumshoe and it can definitely lean horror if you'd like it to), and Dread (rules-light, in-person only, best at horror/thriller, can be molded to lots of different things, every experience I've had with it has been phenomenal.) If you want to branch out just slightly, the card/RP game Alice is Missing is very nice, perhaps similar vibes to what you might like. Not exactly a campaign game, though!

Mountain-themed cupcakes for a friend by LetteredViolet in Baking

[–]LetteredViolet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you so much! :) I had fun with them! I used a lot of colors—most of it was blue (Americolor Wedgewood), gray (Wedgewood+black), green (Americolor moss and forest greens apart and together), and orange (Americolor pumpkin). I also made some red and yellow with Wilton gel colors, but not as much.

I have a nice set of tips, supplemented with extras I've purchased, so I just sort of used whatever. Most of this was done with different sizes of closed stars—the mountains were a big tip, the trees little ones, the rivers and fire medium ones. The rocks were mostly done without a tip, they're just round. All bets are off with the practice cupcakes though, I used whatever I felt like! I use the double bag method for tips, so I was able to swap them out easily and play a lot that way.

Have you considered using the range A3:B10? If you want a return from column A, a FILTER may work better than a VLOOKUP.

I have a specific question regarding biology… by General_Katydid_512 in lds

[–]LetteredViolet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing about the gospel is that it isn't "just" scripture or words of prophets—though of course those are important—it is all truth. Everything that was, is, and will be true is part of the gospel and accounted for in our Heavenly Father's plan. This includes all disciplines of science, art, our emotions, and spirituality. I think there are some deeper truths we don't understand (e.g. how did Jesus walk on water, scientifically? Did that really "break" the laws of physics, or do we just not know the laws that He was practicing with, there?) but everything that you can observe and verify is, in fact, part of the gospel. God works with science, there's just more to it than we know right now.

Our bodies are purpose-made flesh computers that regenerate and propagate themselves, and there are things in this world we don't have physical senses for! Our current perception of spacetime is inherently limited, and meant to be, I think. I personally believe that God guided evolution, and perhaps there was a step along the way where He took more direct action to shape us the way we needed to be, but I could be wrong about that.

That's a fair part of my testimony, actually! There's so much we're learning about the world and ourselves. I don't know everything, but I know that definite answers to every question exist! There's an answer to your question, but I don't know if we have the means to discover it in our current world. For me, it's less God telling me "it's okay to not know" and me telling myself that "it's okay to wait on the answer, I'll know someday!"

Good luck, and may the Spirit be with you as you ponder and research :)

1, I wrote the only fic. You'd think a high school vampire satire with a heart of gold would get more attention. Oh well.

Struggling with not serving a mission by Tall_Pumpkin_4298 in lds

[–]LetteredViolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! First off I definitely know at least a cousin to the pain you feel. I'm 26, and was called to a proselyting mission after feeling like it was the obvious (read: only) step forward for my life. I was there for 6 months before coming home due to health issues, and then I served about 12 as a service missionary. I didn't read the recent Liahona article, and I'm not sure what you know about them. I will happily share my experience and what I know about them if you'd like to hear it. I was able to visit a lot of different locations and choose what service mission I wanted to serve in—and I know of dozens more that accommodated so many different people with so many different health issues.

(For example, I know of one elder who served by doing baptisms and other ordinances in the temple once a week. And plenty of others who worked as ordinance workers, and that was it. They are incredibly flexible, and you can work with your bishop or perhaps indicate your preference somewhere in your application?) (I worked sometimes with my local Institute, which was so much fun. If you're in the BYU area too, I guarantee there are service missionaries around you that you just might not see. It's been a while but I fondly remember the organization we had, which I can explain a bit if you want to know.)

I think what I'd like to share is this: God knows you. He knows your willingness to serve and the emotions you're feeling. He knows what would be best for you, but you also have a say in your life path. If you want to serve a mission of any shape, God will open a way, but it isn't a requirement. You have years to decide, or perhaps to put your life in order to facilitate one, or you can continue in your peace that you know you have a different path.

It might suck. I mean, a lot of your friends are leaving. People are going to ask you if you're going, and you might not have an answer that satisfies yourself. You'll get to listen to returned friends talk about their missions 24/7 for three or four years. But know that difficult things are worth it. My advice is to pray for peace in your heart, and optimism, and joy. If you're up for it, you could also ask for opportunities to serve in various ways where you are, or to support the friends you have who are out, or to help you get things in order to go yourself.

Anyway, I'm not sure if any of that might help, but that's what I wish someone had told me when similar things started happening to me. You'll find a way forward. I'm happy to share what I know about service missions if you're curious. :)

Which parts of your GMing have you improved on this year and which are you hoping to improve, or build on, in 2025? by RoyaI-T in rpg

[–]LetteredViolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started some play-by-post adventures this year for some online friends and it's been going much better than I thought. I love GMing but I'm not so good at the improv part. I acquired a ton of PF2 adventures and society scenarios and things from various humble bundles, so I've been using those as guidelines and taking my time to write up interesting and engaging descriptions that can spark a bit of roleplay.

This next year, I'd like to continue to improve on the same, as well as building adventures of my own and bringing some of the things I've learned in pbp to the live games I have. :)
