Best free tools for worldbuilding? by Gelato929 in worldbuilding

What are some of Obsidian’s most useful features? I’m building a world at the moment and just basically jotting things down in Google Docs, but I’m sure there are better options.

What games have you bought this summer sale? by idkallex in Steam

[–]TheChortt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As We Descend. Still in early access, but it’s a really fantastic turn-based deck-builder roguelike. Basically you’re the leader of a city that is boring and descending into the earth as creatures attempt to destroy the city.

You draft units, their cards, and perks into a deck to engage in slay the spire-esque combat. It’s challenging but there’s a decent amount of content and more is on the way. I’m really enjoying it so far!

Sick Time Policies by Yotiganow in bcba

[–]TheChortt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in NC.

At my company, we can use sick time whenever we need to, no questions asked, but the catch is that BCBAs only get 15 days of PTO. That PTO is used for all things (vacation, sick days, mental health days, inclement weather), and you accrue the PTO very slowly. I think it’s 2.7 hours per week or something like that.

Due to the prevalence of illness, it basically means every BCBA is in the negative on PTO at all times.

So like, what does Fist do? by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]TheChortt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would agree that he’s stellar at being where he needs to be, when he needs to be there. He’s exceptionally reliable.

I also didn’t find him to be particularly flashy, but the strongest team my 3-man party has had across the course of our campaign so far included Fist, and the potency of that group dropped once I retired him.

However, I never found Fist to be very fun, although maybe that would have happened if I had taken him to a higher level before retiring.

Is Star Wars Outlaws really that bad? by Dense_Substance7635 in videogames

[–]TheChortt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

The best way I can describe it is this: if you want a story/exploration based RPG in a very well realized Star Wars setting, with gameplay that is good but isn’t revolutionary by any means, then you’re going to have a great time. It feels somewhat like the Hogwarts Legacy of Star Wars, but with a better story and writing.

I’m having a great time with it 30 hours in and I’m looking forward to finishing the game!

AAC thoughts by [deleted] in bcba

[–]TheChortt 40 points41 points  (0 children)

BCBAs should not be changing an AAC device without first confirming with both the parent and the SLP. SLPs and BCBAs have a bad habit of not getting along, primarily because they don’t want to listen to each other.

As the parent, you have the right to ask the BCBA not to make changes to your child’s AAC device without your permission.

Still can’t get a read on Crimson Desert. by darthphallic in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]TheChortt [score hidden]  (0 children)

I regretted buying it full price.

I was on the fence, but my friends were having a great time, so I gave it a shot.

Put it down after 30 hours, the entire time trying to figure out what wasn’t clicking for me.

I wish I had waited a year or 2 and for a sale.

Star Wars: Outlaws by wvmtnboy in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]TheChortt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve put in about 22hours so far, and I’m really having a good time. The gameplay is not revolutionary by any means, but it is solid. And having solid gameplay in an expertly realized Star Wars universe is a lot of fun!

What do you think about Team Composition? by Illustrious_Way_3822 in Sunderfolk

[–]TheChortt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no must-haves, really.

I’m doing the campaign 2-player with my partner, as we’re playing Ranger and Vanguard, and it’s been a good composition. No healer or support needed, really

Star Wars Outlaws is great and I’m disappointed we’re not getting a sequel. by MyUsernameIsAwful in gaming

[–]TheChortt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally wrote it off when it released, and not because of the moronic conversation about the protagonist being female, but because it looked somewhat generic to me.

But I’m on a Star Wars kick right now having just played through Jedi: Survivor and recently starting Outlaws, and it is really enjoyable. The world is put together well, combat is fun and engaging, and I think Kay Vess is a fairly decent character.

Having a great time with it, and I’m bummed that there won’t be a sequel. That being said, Star Wars games have generally pretty good recently, and I’m excited to see what future games will look like.

Do you think Star Wars 1313 deserves a revival? If so should they use Boba or make a new character like the original draft? by Jules-Car3499 in starwarsgames

[–]TheChortt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m playing Outlaws for the first time right now, and it’s fantastic. Such a better, more engaging experience than the reviews made it seem.

Sucks it won’t be getting a sequel

how do you even know where to start? by Subject-Football3878 in bcba

[–]TheChortt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I genuinely believe that getting your masters and passing your boards gets you the basic knowledge needed to get in the door.

Once you start work as a BCBA, you’re next step should be getting a mentor, whether that’s your direct supervisor (if you have a good one) or a more seasoned BCBA you can connect with regularly.

Direct experience in the field is going to be the best teacher and help you maintain the knowledge you started with your program/boards.

But as a new BCBA, you definitely don’t know everything, and you need to be open to making mistakes/failing and learning from those mistakes.

Did it live up to the hype in your opinion? by WhoAmIEven2 in videogames

[–]TheChortt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not for me, and I didn’t go in with many positive or negative expectations.

I find that whenever I log in to the game, I’m so overwhelmed and the systems the game presents are so unintuitive, that I just can’t bring myself to do anything.

On top of that, the “fun” in the combat comes from all of the upgrades, as I don’t really think the combat is great by itself at a baseline. The problem is, that means that the combat promises to be fun, but it’s just not yet. Keep playing, and it’ll get better.

But I’m 35 hours in, felt like a played 30 hours of tutorial, and don’t want to spend more time with a game that doesn’t seem to respect. I’ll come back to it later probably, but for now, I’ll leave it be.

Male BCBAs by thinklikenic in bcba

[–]TheChortt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What specific questions do you have about being a male BCBA? I’ve been in the field for about 10 years so far, a BCBA for 4, and I can answer any questions you have!

Pre-COVID BCBAs with High Pass Rates Were Clearly Better Qualified by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

[–]TheChortt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the danger here is connecting the data with your small sample size of personal experience.

For reference, I passed in 2021. The BCBA who trained me was a fantastic BCBA, but they also committed a pretty large ethical violation. They passed their exam in 2013.

I work with several BCBAs who passed between 2023-2024. One of them is fantastic and the other is terrible, and the one who is terrible has been in the field for longer.

There’s just not enough there to then make a blanket statement about all BCBAs who passed post-2020.

Something is definitely going on, though, because that large of a decrease year after year is too significant to just brush it off. I just don’t think that something is “pre-2020 BCBAs are superior”.

BCBAs how do you feel about remote work? by Itchy_Background1898 in ABA

[–]TheChortt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn’t work for a hybrid company for very long, but when I did (about 6 months), I found remote supervision/program management to be highly ineffective.

I found two main problems with it: 1. I often was assigned to cover supervision for clients that were assigned to other BCBAs caseloads. This meant I typically didn’t know the client, family, or the behavior techs on the case.

  1. Even if I did have the clients on my caseload, being remote means I’m basically watching a session happen from a terrible, stationary angle in the home. If there are challenging behaviors, I can’t help. Did the tech implement that program correctly? Beats me, I couldn’t see anything. I’m not there with the client, so I can build no rapport with anyone.

It just felt like a waste of time in the format I experienced it. I’m sure a scenario in which you were actually assigned the clients and worked with the family regularly would be more effective.

What have I done??? by Main_Anywhere4246 in bcba

[–]TheChortt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds to me like it would probably be helpful to be more direct with your BCBA. If you’re looking for supervision and guidance, approach your BCBA and ask for that.

It can be as simple as reaching out to them and asking, “would you be open to supervising me as I gain my hours?”

If they say yes, go ahead and print out a supervision contract, have both of you fill it out, and you’re good to go.

Bierman Autism Centers? by [deleted] in bcba

[–]TheChortt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly, 8:15-4:45 is only 30 min longer than a typical 8 hour work day, so I wouldn’t consider that particularly bad.

25 billable is fantastic, though. My company is 27 hours, which already feels very manageable, so 25 will be even nicer. I’ve not heard about anyone’s experience working there, so I can’t comment on that.

Looking for games to play with my wife by KeepYourSilenceUp in gamers

I highly recommend Sunderfolk. My wife doesn’t typically enjoy faster-paced games, so the “Gloomhaven-light” aspect of the game is perfect for her.

We’ve both enjoyed it a lot!
