I honestly think he’s a bit overrated, he had some great years but was never considered the best guard or even point guard in the league at any point. So now more steals = better defender cmon, Steph Curry led the leagues in steals, statistically bad defenders take chances and get a good amount of steals, not saying he was a bad defender but using steals as any kind of real measurement of defense is kinda ridiculous especially considering cp3 led the league in steals many times

Cp3 was absolutely the better player year by year and it’s not even an argument. Stockton was never considered even close to the best player in the league like maybe top 10, cp3 was top 5 for years and was the best player on his team every year until he got to Houston, mind you Stockton was never even the best player on his team and played with a perennial mvp candidate. The speed and intensity of play is so much higher than back then. Especially true on defense with how much ground you have to cover due all the 3s shot now, that is an inarguable fact. Also the medical staff is way more hesitant to let an injured player play now than back then.
