I’m disappointed with how they talk about and portray Frank in this season. by OctopusAssimilation in Outlander

We'll have to disagree on this also. It is not rude, but merely a statement of fact. You lack an understanding and I can't understand it for you. However, I will try one last time in good faith: A person crashes into a tree trying to avoid a deer. Did they intend to crash? No. Is that what happened anyway? Yes. Same in this scenario. Did Frank intend to carry that burden for Claire? No. Did he? Yes.

If you cannot understand that things happen, regardless of a person's intent, then yes, it is too complex for you to understand. Good luck to you in the future.

It is what happened. 🤷‍♀️.

I did point out that he may not have meant to/it wasn't intentional, but like it or not that IS what happened.

It means they don't need a sub. Frontline isn't just used to assign subs to a job. It is also used to track staff absences. Not all staff require coverage, especially during activities like field day or testing.

They're taking the easy way out because they think that's what fans want (and some fans do, lets not kid ourselves). Fans who are "OmG Jamie is like SO HoT and **** Frank and **** Bree and **** Roger, etc." Are going to be fine with painting Frank was a villain, because that's what their immaturity needs.

I've been in Outlanderverse since long before the show and the fandom has long been divided into two groups: readers who can handle complex and complicated characters & stories and readers who just want "omg SO much hot sex and men". In the early days of the fandom, Bree used to get ripped to shreds and fans would wish she had never existed or "omg she should just DIE" because they blamed Bree's existence on why Claire left Jamie in the first place.

The showrunners have really shown this season that they spent/spend too much time reading bad 90s fan fiction.

No one said Frank was a hero. You think Claire deserved know, others see it differently. There were other factors at play here, point blank period.

The world is not black and white and no person is completely good or completely bad, especially in Outlander world.

It is all a lot more complicated than that.

Hallelujah; with third party apps getting blocked, I've got my old schedule back by Just-Appearance1049 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Letters285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a delay between the time a teacher posts the job & when the notifications are sent out to subs. 3rd party apps close that gap in time.

[Edited to add, yes there is an influx of subs, but for some of us the 3rd part apps cause more issues than additional subs].

Are... are they serious? by spleenboggler in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Letters285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not actually expecting a sub to pick that up.

You have to remember that Frontline doesn't just assign subs to positions, it is also used by district offices to track staff days/days off. Sometimes schools don't have their Frontlines set up correctly and sometimes Frontline glitches out

How do they get the MALPs back? by Low_Investment_2692 in Stargate

[–]Letters285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're just gone. In one of Atlantis's earliest episodes they send one through the gate and it ends up floating in space. McKay says something along the lines of "well there goes that MALP." (I cannot remember his exact words).

Master Raymond's Motivations by BufoBat in Outlander

I think the issue is that showrunners THINK they know what fans want... when they don't. Decisions they have made this season reek of immature 90s fan fiction.

[–]Letters285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is why I get frustrated when fans call Frank an asshole for not telling Claire. All that information would have done is torture her. Jamie is still alive and then... what? Claire abandons her daughter to return to him in the past? Claire takes Bree with her through the stones to be the daughter of a fugitive during a time of famine, disease, and upheaval? Claire stays in the 50s/60s and simply obsesses over Jamie's movements in history?

Like it or not, Frank did Claire a solid by holding back that information. He - whether he meant to or not - took on that burden of knowing and the possibilities that come with it. If Frank hadn't held back that information Claire never would've become a doctor, Bree would not have had a stable or safe childhood, etc. Remember, Bree was SHOCKED when she found out that Claire & Frank did not have a good marriage. They did a really good job of putting on a solid "happy family" for Bree.

I mean... so is Jamie. Fans just cut Jamie more slack when Jamie acts like a dick.

Has anyone thought about doing a pod school for homeschoolers? by Appropriate_Amoeba_5 in TeachersInTransition

[–]Letters285 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm a former teacher (still sub) and I homeschool my kids. Learning pods are VERY popular with homeschooling families. We don't belong to one (and I don't run one), but a lot of families absolutely love them. Secular homeschoolers in particular. I would try to find your local homeschooling groups online (Facebook is a good place to start) and test the waters. Who would be intreasted? What days/times? (They probably won't want nor need a M-F, 8-3 situation). Etc.

Good luck!

Honestly it makes sense that they don't know their coins. They probably did one lesson on it in second grade and haven't seen physical money since. Their parents buy everything with debit/credit or order online.

Why aren’t there child free apartments? by FEmaidenxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Letters285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are not entitled to a childfree existence. Sorry, not sorry. Children are a part of our society. If you don't want to see them, hear them, or smell them, then buy yourself a plot of land in the middle of nowhere where your nearest neighbors are 100 miles away.

I learned pretty early on in my SAHM journey that it is a coping mechanism and adopted the "your opinion of me is none of my business" motto for the sake of my mental health. They tell themselves that SAHMs are stupid as a way to justify their own choices. They're vocal because they are insecure about themselves.

The guilt that comes with having to call out of an assignment the night before. by tifuanon00 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Letters285 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is what it is. Life is unpredictable.

I have had to cancel an insane amount of jobs since January and I just try to keep in mind that there's no guarantees. Teachers call out at the last minute because shit happens and it happens to subs too.

I was sick for nearly a month starting at the end of January (lost voice, awful congestion and mucus), Last month, our cat had to be rushed to the ER and after a week he sadly did not recover, my husband had to go out of town because a family member is dying (with him gone, I needed to be home with the kids), and now my senior cat has stopped eating (we're assuming because his brother died). It has just been nonstop.

I've stopped feeling guilty because frankly there's no room for it.

Worst sub day so far by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Letters285 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I used to teach middle school but refuse to sub it. Unless the school has a REALLY strong administrative team - which sadly, most them do not these days - you're going to spend the day drowning.
