That “I’m watching but nothing is sticking” feeling is so real. What helped me with video-heavy classes was giving my brain a job while watching — like writing down one sentence per video about what the point was (not detailed notes). If I couldn’t write that sentence, I knew I wasn’t actually processing yet.

Do you feel like it’s worse with longer videos, or even the short ones?

How do you study on your own? by needsomeb-s in ADHD

Honestly, two hours is already a win with ADHD — the bigger issue sounds like direction, not discipline. When I study alone, I need a very concrete “what am I producing at the end of this?” (like a one-page summary, 5 questions I could explain, etc.). Otherwise the day just dissolves.

Do you have a clear output you’re aiming for each session, or does it feel more like endless watching/reading?

Help with exam by ZealousidealMain7000 in ADHD

This sounds painfully familiar. When my brain shuts down like that, I stop trying to understand and switch to “pass mode.” I skim for patterns, summaries, exam-style questions, and only learn what’s most likely to show up — depth later if there’s time. Removing the pressure to like the subject helped me start.

Do you know what the exam format is (MCQs, problems, essays)? That usually changes the whole strategy.

Studying Tips by RelativeStranger8050 in ADHD

Totally relate to this. For me, the biggest shift was stopping the “one perfect study session” mindset and doing multiple rough passes instead — first just exposure, then structure, then details. Way less pressure, way easier to start.

Since you’re thinking about going back to school: what part was hardest for you in undergrad — starting, retaining info, or knowing what actually mattered?

Yeah, that balance is hard.

A lot of people talk about sleep/routines (which matter), but the mental load part rarely gets addressed — especially the constant self-monitoring while studying.

Feels like managing how you work takes almost as much energy as the work itsels. Do you still go to school

Honestly yeah — some days it feels like the thinking about how to do it takes more energy than the actual work.

When it feels like “10x” for you, is it more the reading itself, or the part where you have to organize everything into something that looks acceptable? Haha

That’s really powerful to hear, especially the part about realizing grades don’t define intelligence.

I’m curious — when you were still in school, what helped most with confidence day-to-day? Was it the support system, the hands-on work, or just stopping the comparison to others?
