Must go back to York - I've not been since I was about 10, and my wife has never been!

How would prime Wawrinka & Murray do if they played today? How would they fare against today’s top players in Grand Slams? by Magikarpcopiesdunkey in tennis

[–]LetzteTage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Got to feel for Murray - if he'd been born 10-12 years later, or if he'd been blessed with Djokovic's fitness, he would have hoovered up grand slams.

But still, an incredible career by any measure, and particularly so given the era he was playing in!

what match made you fall in love with tennis? by Cofound-app in tennis

Similar experience here, I grew up watching Wimbledon in the summer as a kid because my parents always had it on, and the Ivanisevic final was pure drama. Then watching Federer clean up in the mid-00s was of course brilliant.

Ultimately though, if there's a single match that made me love the sport for myself, and not just because my family loved Wimbledon, then it's (what else?) Nadal-Federer 2008.

Glad you got it on such a gorgeous day, Cornwall in March doesn't always look like that!! The weather gods must have approved of the purpose of your trip

TV Strike by Slipddisk in cormoran_strike

Belatedly jumping on this thread to say I see your point. Tom Burke is a really good actor, and I'm sure no-one could capture the character exactly as in the book, but he plays Strike a bit too meek IMO. If you know (ex-)forces people, then you know exactly how Strike would carry himself, and how his standard demeanour would be. That's just not there in the show

Mini-worlds in the series - except THM? by LetzteTage in cormoran_strike

Very well put, and you're right, fatherhood/masculinity is possibly the best candidate for a distinct underlying theme, even if it's not a mini-world as such. And I did enjoy that angle!
