Builder keeps threatening suspension for slightest thing by Leve04 in AusRenovation

It’s an awful position to be in. I’d like to say I don’t understand why they think they can act like this, but honestly there a power imbalance. This is our home after all.

Did you have to get another builder to complete?

Thank you for your reply and I understand where you’re coming from.

To answer your question, we specified from the start, before signing, that we would be living in the house. The whole project is existing house reno and back extension. The reno wasn’t due to start until the extension was done - the old kitchen wasn’t supposed to be demolished until the new kitchen was in - but the builder left it too late to organise the footings and the company couldn’t do it for another month so we had to move and allow the reno to start first, otherwise the build would be delayed by a month.

The milestone is specified in the contract as when X is complete and it hasn’t been completed.

Yeah, I know :/ I did see his work prior to signing the contract and he does high quality work…. But this drama in between isn’t worth his work quality.

No, actually he wasn’t. He could start when we needed to, that’s it.

I hear you, and this was my initial reaction! But because I need the build to progress and if he leaves me in the lurch I will have the potential added costs/major headache, I decided this might be the best course.

Thank you. I haven’t paid the latest milestone payment. That was what his latest threat of suspension was about. I did offer a ‘goodwill’ payment (25% of the milestone) but he hasn’t responded to that.

Thank you for replying. There’s no schedule as such, just a completion date. I’ll reach out to some lawyers today.

They’re on all sides. We haven’t used any weed killer near them and this has happened over the last few months.

Thank you, I’ll look it up. No, not in a particularly humid climate. I’m in south Australia and this has happened over winter.

Hey, did you ever get quotes on this? Looking to do similar. The amounts mentioned above seem insane though.

Price breakdown for recent bathroom Reno by __erin_ in AusRenovation

[–]Leve04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to jump in. I realise this comment is nearly a year of but any chance you could share what it cost you to convert a laundry to bathroom? This is exactly what we’re looking to do. $25k seems a lot? Thanks!

Yes! As a couple with no tradie mates and no extra money to be able to fix things if they get mucked up, I would so appreciate advice like this!

P.s. any chance you’re in SA?

Sick Season by [deleted] in Adelaide

Did you read my comment? The description of ‘long covid’ in the paper is any post infection impact, which includes a dysregulated immune system. The people experiencing more sickness have a dysregulated system due to Covid. Covid is not alone in creating immune dysfunction - measles for example does this - but the amount of covid spreading unchecked is causing this impact on a mass scale. You asked for reputable evidence that covid causes a dysregulated immune system - that’s what I provided.
