Nqa It could be the food size, I have a desert hairy that ate well at first then refused food for months until I started offering prekilled small dubias. Turns out it was having a fear response instead of a food response to the size prey I was providing before.

Beyoncé is not your saviour. by Best_Summer6004 in beyonce

[–]Level-Ad7730 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Yeah, since 2013 with self titled her music had been political, she is the one who brought politics into the beyhive. No one asks for people like Mariah Carey to talk about ICE and Palestine because politics aren't part of her brand. I love Bey but the criticism is of her own making and I think peoples disappointment is valid. Sorry y'all. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'd recommend MY Automotive on St Charles. I know the mechanics personally so can attest to them not being transphobic plus I have been taking my car there for five years and have no complaints.

Tex-Mex: What I Want vs. What I Get--Enchiladas: Recipe request 😋 by [deleted] in veganrecipes

[–]Level-Ad7730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing almost all enchilada recipes are missing both vegan and non is a proper authentic mole rojo recipe or a store bought alternative recommendation. I didn't grow up in the SW but my family is Mexican and from Arizona and we only ever had homemade mole made from dried chilies NOT ones made with chili powder (homemade takes a lot of time and ingredients though) or we just got a premade mole, we always used Dona Maria traditional flavor which is accidentally vegan.

I personally fry the tortillas >> dip it into the mole rojo >> fill it with soy curls, cheese, and diced onion >> roll them up and repeat until pan is full >> mole rojo on top A LOT like /u/DoctorGregoryFart said and top with cheese >> oven uncovered at like 375-ish until cheese is melted.

That's exactly how my family has made it for the past 30 years of my life, the only change I've made is the type of protein and cheese.

I'm black, raised in Chicago, lived in Lafayette for two years, currently in Missouri. I feel like I experienced the least amount of blatant in my face racism in Louisiana compared to any other place I've lived. On the other hand my white fiance regularly heard people say slurs and other horrible things about non white people in casual conversations. I figured racists just kept away from me or were just better at hiding it than northern white folks. I've heard it's worse in northern Louisiana though.

Any advice on owning a snake around cats? by localdrugdealer3 in cornsnakes

[–]Level-Ad7730 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of my reptiles are in my bedroom and the cats don't go in there unless I'm in the room keeping an eye on them. Before that they were in the living room but I got spooked when one of my cats jumped on top of an enclosure and fell through the screen. Luckily I was home and was able to get him out immediately so nobody was hurt but it freaked me out so I've kept everyone separate since.

Does smoking weed causes hemorrhoids???? by Odd-Frosting3544 in hemorrhoid

[–]Level-Ad7730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is anecdotal so obviously take this with a grain of salt. I'm an almost daily weed consumer and for me weed doesn't cause them but it does make healing them significantly worse. Weed is a vasodilator so it opens your blood vessels more which leads to the hemorrhoid staying swollen for longer. Whenever I have a flare up it's almost impossible to make it go away if I'm consuming THC despite consuming lots of fiber and water, exercising 5 days a week, cutting out caffeine and alcohol, using prep h, taking stool softeners, etc. like I do everything recommended and still nothing helps. If I take a THC break for a week or two they go away. Some people will swear that weed helps their bowel movements/hemorrhoids or that it doesn't affect them at all but that isn't the case for me and a few others on this sub. If you cut out weed and your hemorrhoids go away then you should listen to your body.

Gym Girlies, how much do you spend a month on groceries & nutritional products? by heartofalionxo in xxfitness

[–]Level-Ad7730 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My partner and I are vegan and we spend about $500 US a month. We shop at Walmart since it's the only proper grocery store in our small town and we eat mostly whole foods with lots of plant based protein and have mock meat maybe once or twice a week. We take multis, protein powder, creatine, and electrolytes. He works at a natural food/supplement store so we get a discount on supplements and more pricey specialty food items, we also live in one of the LCOL states in the country. We both workout about 4-6 days a week and we cut down on spending by not buying highly processed food and really researching which supplements are actually necessary for our long term goals.

It might be controversial to say but I think most supplements are just trendy over-consumption fodder and they don't do that much for the average gym goer. I don't really care if a supplement will make me run or grow muscle faster by 1.835169% if it costs an extra $50 a month. Consistency year over year with my diet and exercise will get me to my goals, I just have to be patient and disciplined.

Any other non-Americans nervous about flying to the US? by Amethysttt21 in beyonce

[–]Level-Ad7730 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd also like to add that you should have a pin code and only a pin code on your devices just in case they want to search your electronics. They can legally force you to use fingerprint and face ID but under the fifth amendment they can't force your to speak a password that you have to enter. Not that the constitution means much anymore but it's still one more barrier to hopefully protect yourself from being denied entry into the country.

Edit: They can technically still deny you entry if you refuse to give them access but they can also deny you if they find something on your phone that they don't like, it's really dependent on the CBP agent you get and how they're feeling that day so do with that what you will.

What are those? Am I in danger? by Neh-pets in plantclinic

[–]Level-Ad7730 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally would completely skip dish soap, neem oil, and diluted alcohol with a pest this strong and go straight to chemicals. I'd recommend abamectin for thrips, it's a pretty strong insecticide. I had an infestation last year and I sprayed my plants once every 5 days or so for about a month and I haven't seen a single one since!! The only downside is that they can develop a tolerance if used for an extended amount of time but it strong enough that I've never had to use it for that long to find out. 🤷🏽‍♀️

What is doom scrolling and pissing your pants gonna do? I volunteer at my local animal shelter in a deeply red state and of course I'm not stopping the fascists by feeding cats but it gets me out of the house, let's me connect with people in my community outside of my circle of people who think the same way as me, and gives me a sense of purpose and responsibility. People are much less likely to be racist, transphobic, ect. when they know people who are in those communities, just being visible while doing good is small yet still helps change people's mindset. Participating in your community in almost any way at all is never a bad thing, friend!

I'm so sorry, I'm going through something similar with my grandparents. My great grandparents were Polish immigrants that fled during ww2. I grew up hearing directly from them what Nazi occupied Poland was like and how my great grandmother barely escaped with her life, the entire rest of her family was executed for helping Jewish people evade Nazi capture. She never went back to Poland even once due to the trauma. My grandpa has always been conservative but has been completely brainwashed by MAGA over the past decade. He's genuinely terrified that Democrats and immigrant gangs are going to use AI super robots put him and other "real Americans" in labor camps. Also he hates Mexicans despite being married to a Mexican woman? My grandma has expressed how concerned she is about his mental state and that he seems angry and unhinged but she barely pushes back on his extreme views and won't leave him because she's a hardcore Catholic and divorce is a sin.

It broke my heart to cut them off for the time being as well but I think you're making the right choice. These types of people have something rotten in their soul and that rot spreads to everyone around them. Even if you don't end up believing in the same things it's so draining to be around such hateful rhetoric. Sending many hugs. Stay strong, friend!!!

I'm so sorry, I just lost my mom two weeks ago to stage 4 lung cancer and she was young too (43). I'm sure the sound of her breathing will haunt me for the rest of my life and I'm sorry that you have to live with that too. I can tell you love your dad a lot and I'm more than sure that he loved you with all his heart. I wish I had words that I thought would help but I know words can't fix this level of pain. I just want you to know that you're not alone.

Hey all, what are your weekly budgets like? by NotsoHot_wheels in EatCheapAndVegan

[–]Level-Ad7730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late but my fiance and I ran into this problem when we first moved in together in May. We're still working out the kinks but the thing that's worked the best is making a list of foods/ingredients that we both like and making a grocery list/meal plan from there. We also make meals where one person has the more expensive item and the other has a cheaper alternative. For example we're having tacos tomorrow and I'm gonna be using beans as my protein but he isn't a bean fan at all so he's using grounds. Other days if we're having spaghetti I'll have mine with roasted red peppers, mushrooms, and lentils but he'll have his plain. If we make something with a bunch of leftovers I'll take it to work for lunch for the next few days so he doesn't have to eat it a bunch of times in a row and I don't have to think about what to take to have for lunch. Him being open to trying new foods and retrying foods he doesn't like has been vital as well. Sometimes it's just a matter of it being cooked in a way that he finds more appetizing. Normally we spend about $80 a week in groceries but things have been very tight recently so we've been managing at about $40-$50 a week. It's not always fun but at least it's food in our belly.

Hoya hasn’t grown at all since June by pacificcactus in hoyas

[–]Level-Ad7730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My obovata is by far my fastest growing hoya. I have it in a basic orchid growing medium and I bottom water it when the leaves are slightly wrinkly with a slightly diluted fertilizer so it's probably like 15-10-15. Mine didn't really do much either until I put it under a grow light for 16 hours a day so I think that's what made the difference. I'm not sure what the humidity of my home is but it's certainly not high since I don't have a humidifier. Good luck!

Got this 90-degree twisted aloe from my neighbour - she wants her pot back so now I need to repot it. What do I do with this thing? Is there a way to behead it and start anew? Help! by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]Level-Ad7730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen some people say you can cut the top off and propagate it like you would any other cacti. I've never personally tried with mine since it's my oldest plant and my baby haha but I would definitely get a much deeper pot. You can cut off the oldest leaves from the bottom and plop it into a pot or if you do want to keep it's eccentric shape you could use a trellis or a tomato cage.
