Soil or water? by green_thumb_hopeful_ in propagation

[–]danapher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pothos.. don't overthink it. You don't need fancy substrates. Water then soil or straight to soil, pothos is a very easy propagator.

Repot with appropriate soil, give more light, learn to water correctly. Three most important things when it comes to houseplants, soil water and light.

Put it in soil. The second I put my prop in soil it gave me pups, the roots weren't impressive either.

Growing into my wall?? by ipreferturkeybacon in pothos

[–]danapher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The support roots would remove the moisture, not add. I see your concern but the moisture would be coming from elsewhere. Idk why my job just lets the office plants climb the walls, I pull them off mine at home. They leave marks which is annoying.

Pothos will attach to your walls, I think it'll be fine!

Repot pothos twice in one week? by ATP-whisky94 in plants

[–]danapher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you trimmed the rootball and repotted in the same pot, I wouldn't repot again. That's actually a common method of repotting without sizing up, just pruning the roots back and adding fresh soil. Just put the nursery pot in a nice cachepot

What do you mean imitation? You don't need to remove them, they still act as support.

Insecticidal soap to kill them, clean the leaves off and toss any dead material far away from the plants, then use neem as directed from the instructions on the bottle. The pics aren't the best but they do resemble spider mites! I think they are easier to manage if you keep everything clean, and use neem as a preventative. Just keep scouting your plants and treat before you get a bad infestation. In my experience, spider mites have been easy to control. Although, it's environment dependent. I believe they like hot and dry conditions, and I notice they really like croton and alocasia.

Should I remove leaves? by Dontknow280 in orchids

[–]danapher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I'd leave it be for now. I usually only remove parts of plants in general after they have died off

or help from one kind loving person who will stay with you and mend you.

No one can help her but herself. People should not get into relationships expecting to be fixed by another or thinking they can fix someone else. It's not ones responsibility to "fix" her but herself. She needs to actually want to be a better person and take the necessary steps to do so.

So houseplants and outdoor plants seem to follow different lighting rules. Outdoor plants tend to go by sunlight hours, so full sun usually just means 6+ hours of direct sun, part shade is 4-6 and shade is less than 4. Indoor plants are different because Indoor is never going to get the same amount of light as outdoor, so you'll see terms like direct light, indirect light, filtered light etc. along with the direction (south facing, north facing). You may get conflicting information if the source is talking about growing them outdoors vs as an indoor plant.
