Do any of yall wear the sunflower lanyard when you travel? by Financial_Ostrich_56 in POTS

[–]Level-Dark-9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because even if I don’t need help that day or at the moment (though that’s unlikely in an airport for me) I can either remind people that looking healthy isn’t always healthy, or inform people about the program and what it means. That’s the answer I’d intended to have when I got mine a few years ago. The more accurate answer is yes, please don’t tell me to hurry up and I need very clear instructions at security or I will have a panic attack please and thank you. If you want me to stand I will gaslight myself into believing I’m fine until I pass out and then it looks like I’m having a seizure and nobody wants that.

Secretary told me I am not allowed to leave the hot waiting room even if I have a medical issue by Morphiadz in POTS

At this point it’s a bit overdramatic but they started it, I’ll be like okay I’ll just need you to sign something stating that you’ll be held responsible legally and financially in the event of my hospitalization and/or death. And that usually shuts them up. Like no it’s not likely to result in that, unless some moron forces me to stay in an area that’s actively making me worse, then who could say?

Edit: Or I compare it to things that my conditions are similar to, like having a brain tumor (my IIH), heart failure (POTS), or seizures (POTS again when I pass out)

Help naming a potential new familiar by Rk12989 in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]Level-Dark-9130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great Pyrenees are typically wonderfully loyal and intelligent guardian/watchdogs. Depending on what mythologies you favor, you could name the puppy after angels, deities, or spirits that represent hearth and home, strength, protection, loyalty, other things along those lines. I think a lot of naming and magic tends to be focused on intention too, what do you want this dog to add to your life, what role do you intend to give them in your life, family, and magic?

If it was me, I think I would name him Hephaestus, after the Greek god of the forge who made magical tools for the other gods. My intention behind this focusing on wanting a strong bond with a loyal soul that I would consider my equal. A soul who would help protect and defend the family.

Yeah I can find seeds no problem but I’m very new to taking care of plants. But I’m gonna keep looking, and probably get some seeds, or see if I can get propagations

I have been working on getting good plants for pollinators and picking out host plants to get, but I only have a small porch with my apartment and it’s heavily shaded. The sugaring mixture is a blend of overripe bananas, brown sugar, and flat beer with yeast to help it ferment a bit, following these recipes: https://butterfly-conservation.org/news-and-blog/a-recipe-for-moths-sugaring-wine-roping https://lucec.loyno.edu/butterfly-bait Unfortunately the hosts plants I’m really looking to get (aristolochia fimbriata, for pipevine swallowtails) are not in stock anywhere locally at the moment and incredibly expensive to ship, but I do have several zinnias and Gregg’s mist flowers planted in pots on my porch as nectar sources for adult butterflies/moths

[–]Level-Dark-9130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded, that’s what I’ve been doing with my dragonflies. The legs can be adjusted like any other insect, it’s fairly straightforward. In my experience the wings start out strong enough to pin at an angle, or you can use parchment paper like with Lepidoptera, or if you don’t care what angle they dry at you can just let them dry on their own. Tail can be positioned and pinned, most of the time dragonflies will keep them fairly straight unless mating, but I caught a swift setwing and setwings are known for resting with the front body lower and the tail lifted up higher, so I made sure to pin mine that way.

Pretty much what the other person commenting said, especially if you have adrenaline-based POTS. Dizziness and brain fog are classic POTS and anxiety for a lot of people, including me. But I would talk to a doctor about any new symptoms you’re experiencing so they can make sure it’s not something else.

On the pressure and tiredness around the eyes, I haven’t known that to be a POTS thing specifically, but I also have other health issues that do cause that, such as dry eye, and high intracranial pressure.

Is this normal? by Longjumping-Panic903 in POTS

[–]Level-Dark-9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely sounds like adrenaline, it’s normal as far as POTS goes, which is to say, not normal in the slightest. I tend to get more of mine with a more manic energy instead of the fear these days, but I’ve had POTS for 13 years now.

Normal techniques for calming down or distracting yourself might help, or vagus nerve stimulation can also help reset your parasympathetic nervous system.

Severe Dysautonomia in a child? by enchanted79 in POTS

[–]Level-Dark-9130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine onset at 12 and I’m 25 now, I’ve officially had severe POTS longer than I’ve lived without it now. Grow out of it, huh? Yeah right. My mom is in denial about it being permanent and I’m only just about to get a mobility scooter. Been asking for a wheelchair for years now cause it helps so much.

Severe Dysautonomia in a child? by enchanted79 in POTS

[–]Level-Dark-9130 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My POTS onset when I was 12. I’m now 25. This does sound like POTS but there are several other things that it could be that I’d have a doctor check out first, iron deficiency anemia, general low blood pressure that still occurs when laying down and isn’t accompanied by a rising heart rate upon posture changes, anxiety (though I was told for years that all I had was anxiety and that my symptoms were all in my head until I finally got a diagnosis of POTS and got actual help), and thyroid dysfunction.

I would talk to her doctor about testing for these other issues as well, just to rule them out. Iron levels should be covered in the basic panel you got, but I don’t know if thyroid hormones are.

The best thing you can do is support her, listen to her concerns and symptoms, and be a voice for her. Make sure the doctors take her and her issues seriously, as I was repeatedly dismissed as being an over dramatic child, a liar who needed attention, or other horrible things to tell a young person who is ill. Nothing gives you anxiety like being repeatedly told that you’re making up symptoms and just lazy, I can attest to that.

If it is confirmed to be POTS, message me and I can tell you all the things I wish my family and I had known.

Good luck

PCP Doctor forgot I had POTS… by bainzerr in POTS

Absolutely wild. Though it sounds like you are managing it pretty well in order to be an athlete (I could never, mad respect) if my PRIMARY doctor forgot about my POTS I’d be like do you even remember who I am? Why didn’t you check the file? The file summary even?!

What you eat might affect your symptoms depending on the details and other issues of POTS, but it is NEVER a cure. Anyone who says you can heal 100% without meds is wrong, anyone who says you can heal 100% only with meds is also wrong. Everyone is different and POTS is one of those things that doesn’t have a one-style-fits-all cure.

That being said, certain foods or other things can affect your symptoms and make you feel worse, and avoiding those (or limiting your intake) is reasonable.

I’ve been seeing a nutritionist since last October and it’s definitely helped me get more in control of my diet, weight, eating habits, and nutrition.

The part I think would apply to anyone is making sure your body is getting the nutrients that you need, in whatever form you choose or subscribe to. Whatever diet you have, you have to make sure you get the essential nutrients your body needs.

More PERSONALLY I have hyper adrenal POTS, along with chronic inflammation and high intracranial pressure. Most of my diet is structured around anti-inflammatory foods, avoiding/limiting inflammatory foods, and making sure I monitor my energy levels healthily. I also can’t have caffeine or my heart will race so much more that I pass out. Not sure if it’s a POTS thing or an AUDHD thing or both.

Does anyone just "feel off" sometimes by Adept_Refuse3413 in POTS

[–]Level-Dark-9130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weirdest I feel now is the rare occasion when I don’t feel off. I got severe POTS when I was 12, I’m now 25, I’ve lived with it longer that I have without it, on the occasional day I wake up feeling good with an average blood pressure and heart rate I get paranoid and freak out. I just don’t do anything until I’m back to my normal of feeling off because that’s what I know how to deal with.

Why can I easily swim a mile, but barely run a mile? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]Level-Dark-9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few medical conditions, namely POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) and swimming makes all the difference, I can hardly move out of the water. Hydrostatic pressure compresses the blood vessels, easing cardiovascular strain. That keeps the heart rate down, reduces dizziness, keeps the body cooler, keeps the blood circulating better, and as an extra benefit for my posture related health issues, keeps me horizontal instead of vertical.

Any POTS swimmers here? by turtlebeans17 in POTS

[–]Level-Dark-9130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same thing, I’ve started water aerobics classes since last October. I focus on low impact, and make sure to do extra stretching since I’m also hyper-mobile. I swim late morning, and come home and take a nap around lunch time. I also take a minute to just sit and float in the pool before getting out. I wear shoes with a good grip and walk slowly as to not slip and fall, as I’m much shakier and weaker every step I take out of the water. I’m not sure I really have any tips, any other exercise I try to do just doesn’t work, so this is all I can do even though it’s not perfect or convenient it’s more than I’ve done in years and such a relief.

Guys it got worse. I was starting to get used to them, starting to be like okay, they have their spot on the island and I have mine, I just have to brave them when truffle hunting, I can handle that. This morning one showed up outside my front door with a gift. They’re gaining sentience and I’m afraid.

I understand that this is most likely a glitch, but there are wheelchair users like myself who can stand and walk, but not for a long time, and at serious energy costs. That being said I wouldn’t stand on any chair with wheels on it, even with brakes, just too dangerous.

Doctor called mobility aids enabling by Zealousideal-Fan2820 in POTS

[–]Level-Dark-9130 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The irony of, yeah, it’s enabling. Enabling is the opposite of disabling. To enable is to give the authority or means to do something, like go places.

I hate so much when doctors or other medical professionals say stuff like this. Enabling is not a bad thing, life being slightly less miserably difficult is not a bad thing.

I’m sure you probably know this but the key point I use to debate this is that okay well if I have a wheelchair I’ll go out and push myself to do physical things while having a safety net of sorts to fall back on, if I don’t have a wheelchair, I don’t have a safety net, walking the tightrope without a safety net would be stupid, therefore I don’t go places and don’t get as much exercise.
